Destinations for ships 5 & 6?

Ideally for my sake.. just saying.. have a boat out of Los Angeles as I live 1 1/2 hours away... and lastly, have another boat go to Japan... I'm already planning a trip to Tokyo/Tokyo Disney and Sea for my 40th birthday and that just happens to be during 2021... it's a sign!

If I remember correctly DCL had a contract with Long Beach for a whole winter season cruising to Mexico and then even for future years as well. Because of issues with the ports in Mexico, they brought the Wonder back to Florida early. I think Long Beach port was not amused by DCL just leaving despite having previously commited. They never wen back to Long Beach since. I suspect that they burned a few bridges and any contract with Long Beach would come with unfavourable terms now.
Every cruise line has a contract like that. Usually there's a Claus in there that says the liine will have x amount of sailings per year over the life of the contract. To break it usually all a line has to do is pay the difference. Basically the port gets paid whether the line is there or not. DCL had that issue with PC. back when the Magic went to California for the first time, DCL didn't fullfil it's obligation to the port for missed sailings. They owed PC 400000. That was the sticking point in the negotiations when the contract was up. Ultimately it was forgiven by the port in favor of DCL home porting the Dream class there by name for a given amount of years. If I had to guess, it's the port fees and charges that guests don't see as why DCL never went back to Long Beach. Things like fuel and berthing space, Stevedore services etc.

Unlike the Caribbean there's not a whole lot of islands that will lend themselves to being developed. Or, indeed, a whole lot of islands. Most are rocky, pointed masses. In the Caribbean the islands tend to be flatter to start with, and much easier to develop.

They can actually make man-made islands... and Disney is innovative and has the money. They should do it, they would have people flooding from the west coast trying to get on a cruise to their island.

The existing contract with PC expires in 2022. Conveniently in between the delivery of the new ships. I'm curious as to what PC will do to keep DCL there.
Of all the possible cruise lines, I think DCL is the least of PC's worries. The proximity to Orlando makes PC far too compelling for DCL to ignore. The bigger question is, what additional concessions can DCL wrangle out of the port authority? PC's infrastructure is already well behind the port's current state.

It is very convenient for DCL to be about 1.5 hours from the parks and airport. Tampa would be a strong contender if it wasn't for the skyway bridge.

I think any cruise line would be on PC priority list. The simple reason is they want the number 1 cruise spot bad from Miami. I was looking the other night and if thingso don't change, there is a master plan for another 4 or 5 terminals, plus another turning basin.

The key difference between now and when the original contract expired is this. DCL failed to meet its port obligations because they sent the Magic to California at least 2x. DCL is obligated to make a given number of sailings per year from PC. They failed to meet that because the Magic wasn't there for 3 or 4 months. So they port charged them for the missed stops which was in the neighborhood of 400000 dollars. It became a sticking point. DCL was ready to walk from PC. The reason they didn't was the head of the port and Karl Holz predecessor had a private phone call on Thanksgiving and worked out the basics of the new contract. This was just before the contract expired.

This time around there's not as many required sailings so that helps plus having a 3rd ship in PC helps also.

I agree that PC is a little behind the times in infrastructure and I'm really curious as to what they are willing to do.

The change from Sun/Thurs departures to Mon/Fri for the 3/4 night cruises happened after Sep 2014 (we were on a 4 night, Sunday departure that year).
I would LOVE for a return to the 4-night Thurs departure. If I'm going to have to take the whole work week off, I'll just take a 7nt-cruise. A Thursday departure means only 3 days off.
First I think Disney would make a killing if they invested make an effort to have cruises out of Long Beach in California, they would be able to coincide it with the theme parks in California. SPlus it could be booked as a Land and Sea package which is easier for most, I know that if things are the same in 3-4 years (The only port on the West Coast is in San Diego) many opportunities will be missed.
I would do this in a heartbeat too. In fact, Disney just orient their vessels to allow Land/Sea packages with ALL of their international Parks! Sign me up.

It will likely be a given the new ships go to Port Canaveral taking over the Bahamas and Caribbean sailings. I do think Wonder will stay west coast. DCL is trying out Mexican Riviera again. I can see Dream or Fantasy moved to NYC doing the Bahamas and WDW stops cruises.

Would love the Dream or Fantasy out of NYC but not that crappy itinerary. Maybe Bermuda (for the summer) or even the one the Magic did last year in November - Tortola & San Juan.
