Thinking of going to Destin for spring break this year. Does anyone know of any good hotels on the beach and also what about activites? I have a 2, 7, and 14 year old. TIA

We love the SanDestin Golf and Beach Resort, it is family friendly and reasonably priced and if you join them on facebook, they are always offering all kinds of specials. There are all different kinds of room options as well as activities for the whole family.

We've stayed at the Holdiay Inn Destin on the Beach. It was nice and the kids got ice cream or popsicles everyday for no cost. They have a kids club and kids activities.

We also enjoyed the Hilton in San Destin. It has been a few years since we were there but they had a little "kids suite". Just bunks beds in a little alcove but nice. With a fridge and microwave.

Ooo, I third the Hilton!!! We stayed there in 2006 and 2008 for a night each time, and it could not have had a better location. We only lived about 30 minutes away, and did some research before we stayed there. It was beautiful, the staff was very pleasant, and the rooms were so clean and nice. I highly recommend a beach view.

By the way, the Sandestin outlet mall is one of the best I have ever been to. I also LOVE (and miss :( ) the Destin commons. Big Kahunas water park/mini golf is only a quick drive away, along with the Track - go carts, mini golf, games, etc.

I hope you have a great trip!!! :)

My in-laws "winter" in Destin every year. We just got back from spending Christmas there. They stay in a condo that is right on the beach (you have to walk across the street) and it is really nice. It has a huge indoor-outdoor pool with two outdoor hot tubs. Their condo is called the Majestic Sun and it is in Miramar Beach which is between San Destin and Destin. Here is the link:

Good luck!

Sandestin resort is stunningly beautiful area. It was one of Walt Disney's first choices for a theme park when he was touring Florida.

herc.

There are tons of things to do in Destin. I highly recommend The Sea Blaster. It is a huge speed boat that takes you out to see the dolphins. They let the kids "drive" the boat and it is a lot of fun. There is a really nice go-kart / game center / putt-putt called The Track. Big Kahunas Water Park (although I have heard it is quite pricey) , the outlet mall is awesome and so is Destin Commons (an outdoor mall). As far as restaurants go, I would recommend Fudpuckers, Fat Daddy's, McGuires Irish Pub, The Crab Trap, Mellow Mushroom (great pizza), and The Lucky Snapper.

restaurants - another broken egg, breakfast / stinky's fish camp, lunch or dinner / fudpuckers for lunch/dinner as well/ mcguires for steaks etc*** that one is the best in my opinion

big kahuna is a huge water park that is amazing... bit pricey buy great for all ages, there is a mini golf option i believe included

outlet malls there are wonderful too... there is a shopping complex with bass pro shops and many others too which has a fun kiddy park for the younger set complete with the suprise water features and large climb on animals

all of these locations definitely have web sites :) enjoy your time...:thumbsup2 destin is a beautiful place

We love Destin too.

When you were there, how are the beaches in terms of the oil spill?

We were getting some major deal offers last fall when they were still cleaning up!

Have you looked at Seagrove (about 25 miles east of Destin)? We like Destin, but we LOVE Seagrove. There are some great homes to rent, and if you're on a budget, the Bungalows at Seagrove are a great value. We've rented at Cassine Village, Rosemary Beach/Village of South Walton, and Bungalows.

I don't know if I would go there with children that time of year. Won't there be thousands of college age spring breakers there? Being all wild and probably drunk? Destin is beautiful, and well worth a trip, but I would check and see if there will be older "kids" there at that time of year.

No, most of them are closer to the party scene in Panama City Beach and that area, which is farther away. Destin is more family friendly, even during Spring Break.

This is totally true. We've never encountered the college crowd.

But can someone comment on the area considering last year's BP oil spill?

I live in Niceville just north on the other side of the mid-bay bridge. The beaches are clean. :thumbsup2 Never had anything serious so far. :worship: Enjoy!

My parents live in Destin and I've been going with my wife and kids annually for the past 8 years.

My parents live in Regatta Bay which is right on 98. We stay at our beach house that is actually down 30A in Santa Rosa Beach (turn in at Goatfeathers for you locals :thumbsup2).

We prefer staying down 30A as it's a bit quieter.

We were there for the day in October and the beaches were beautiful, the water was a little murky that day, but that may not have been out of the ordinary.
