Destin, Fl

I love McGuires. Always fabulous and fun for kids!

I am trying to time our drive to Disney world putting us in Pensacola around 11am, so we can eat at the Mcguires there. lol

For pizza:

Mellow Mushroom is good.

There is also Fat Daddy's Pizza. It is a pizza place with an arcade. There is also black light mini golf next door and laser tag. It is also right next door to Fudpuckers, so you could walk next door and see the gators, with out overpaying for food that is so so.

For seafood:

The Crab Trap has decent prices for good seafood and is kid friendly.

I personally would stay away from The Back Porch. It is very overpriced for only ok food. It is easily $50 for two people.

For Burgers:

I would go with McGuires!! Burgers run 9.99 and they are huge! They have maybe 30 burger combos to choose from.

There is a Miller's Ale House here. They offer a wide varity of food at pretty good prices. They also have 2 daily specials at lunch and at least one special at dinner.

I think all of these places should have websites that you can look at. That is going to be a very busy time here! If you have a chance to get them, there are a few coupon books for the area that could really help you save money.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions!

Are there any decent Asian restaurants there? I'd love some good Chinese or Japanese. :)

We're planning a date night one of the nights where my parents will watch the kids. Any suggestions (non-seafood place)?

There is a P.F. Chang's at Grand Boulevard by SanDestin.

It's not much on atmosphere, but we've eaten a couple of times at Dynasty Chinese Cuisine on 98 with no issues.

VKI Japanese Steakhouse/Sushi/Hibachi in Santa Rosa Beach.
Lin's Asian Cuisine in Miramar Beach (across from Silver Sands Factory Outlet) is one of my favorites.
Dynasty - I've always had great food there as well!
If you like Thai there is Royal Orchird (also near Silver Sands) and Thai Elephant.

Thanks! Love PF Chang's, but am looking for something local. :) I'll keep Dynasty in mind. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the recommendations. I've written them all down. :goodvibes

Callihans is great, and with the exception of our teen boys, if you order an entree, it usually is two meals.

We like the Donut Hole for diner type food.

Dewey Destins (the original one) is good.

We often buy seafood at Destin Ice and cook it ourselves. It is great and much more reasonable than eating the same thing at a restaurant.

This year though, a new seafood market opened --

They will actually cook a Shrimp (or crawfish) boil for you for just a bit over the cost of the seafood itself.

I'm surprised no one mentioned The Shed for their outstanding ribs!

I also think the Crab Trap is a great place. You can eat right on the beach looking at the ocean. Kids meals come in plastic pails and include a shovel. Bar drinks come in platic buckets too. Great atmosphere and great fish dishes.

So glad to see this post we are going to Ft. Walton Beach/Destin for the first time Sept. 15-22. I am very excited to take my son to a white sand beach. We are staying in a condo. We are wanting to get beach pictures while we are there any recomendations?!

We're (family of 6) going to be in Destin for the first time in 3 weeks. :)

Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions, everyone! We got back last night. We ate at Jim n Nick's & Maguire's Irish Pub while we were there. Jim N Nick's was decent. Maguire's.. we LOVED that place. The food was excellent (HUGE servings, easily sharable!) and the ambiance very cool. We went on a rainy day and sat on the 2nd floor balcony and it was perfect. We almost went a 2nd time we enjoyed it so much. :goodvibes Word of advice for anyone considering going- go early! We arrived at 6:30 on a Tuesday night and it was a madhouse! 1.5 hour wait. Can't imagine weekend evening wait times. :scared1:

ETA: We also ate at The Back Porch. Good food, but very pricy. Really cool location. Also crazy busy, so go early there too if you can!

We got back last night too....had a great trip! We ate at Another Broken Egg (at Baytowne), Donut Hole, Pampano Joe's, and one other seafood place at Harborwalk whose name escapes me at the moment (not Poppy's or AJ's)....all good meals. We also ate at Miller's Ale House, which I know is a chain but the food there was very good and very reasonably priced! We went to Fudrucker's one day to feed the gators but didn't eat there...thank goodness because it was a madhouse!

Where do you stay when you go to Destin?

We rented a house in the Villages of Crystal Beach from VRBO. It is a small neighborhood in the Crystal Beach area (think mid Destin) that is about a 5-10 minute walk to the beach, but they have a free tram to take you also. The pool was a huge lagoon style pool with a zero entry area and hot tub...it was gorgeous! The house was a little pricey but we split it with another family and had a great time!

We also rented a house in Crystal Beach. :goodvibes It was kind of expensive but we also split it with another family. We were about 2 blocks from the beach. Loved having our own pool! I think my kids preferred the pool to the beach. :rotfl:

This is where we stayed.. the owner was great to work with! http://www.vrbo.com/5436
