DEST EE 5K PTR - 19days Apr/May-(I'm BaaaaaCK!)

:rainbow:
yay!! Thanks SO much Snow White for helping me figure out multiple quotes

At the bottom of each post there is 3 buttons. There is the quote button and beside that is the multi-quote button and then the last button which I'm not sure what that is. When you click the middle button it will turn orange. Click that button on all the posts you want to respond to and then at the bottom of the page click "Reply" and all the quotes should come up! :goodvibes

Oooh ... I wanted to try it too ... thanks so much for the tip!!!!

That sounds like a good plan Sandy :thumbsup2 I still havn't chatted with dh about it yet but I know once I start talking out loud about it it'll come tome. lol

Thanks! Always good to run the plan by others! :goodvibes

Thanks for posting. So you will be coming after the 5th then?? what are the dates of your trip? Thanks for the fast mile tip. Dh now has it down to under 11 - his goal is to do 10 by the end of this month and I'm pretty sure he'll get there - he ONLY does a mile each day though so he's more determined to get the speed and not the longevity or whatever it would be called. I need to know I can do the whole 5k without collapsing so I can fit in the other things too. LOL. so our goals are different. DD - well - she's just been totally wimping out :( 2x's a week and only for a SLOW mile. I'll get on her case in a month or so to kick it up a notch.

So this is the test - hoping this multiple quote thing works :confused3

Yeah, we don't come until the end of May and into early June. Honestly, I can't run an entire 5k without stopping on a treadmill and solid ground is a lot harder. I think one of the most important things is to work on your breathing. When I run I try and keep a steady beat and that helps me. Once you've mastered that, I think it gets easier to recover after a shorter time too. So if you get .7 miles in and then walk for 2 minutes, you would probably have enough energy built back up to run another .7 miles. 7 minute mile sounds like heaven. 5k in under 25 minutes? My 5k is usually 40 minutes, 25 sounds amazing! I just think continuous practice will put you there. Good luck, I want to try a 5k this spring as well!

:goodvibes You're welcome!

YIKES!!! I'm scared for my next run!! I did week 5 the first run and week 5 the second run but I listened ahead and found out that week 5 the third run is supposed to be running for 20 min straight!!! ACK!:crazy2: Oh well, I'll report on how it goes during my weekly update.

Ya, that's what has me worried about my next run. I more usually do a steady run for a bit then really push it for a bit and then walk and recover. I'm not sure how well 20 min straight of jogging is going to do??? lol.
I think the breathing thing is the main thing that's holding me back since getting sick. I find it's harder to get in those nice long deep breaths that I was doing before I caught my cold in December. It's coming back though - today I hardly had any coughing during my run so I'll be back to my original health any day now.

Hi there! I'm coming over from my PTR to see your plans for the EE run!

Treadmills are fickle things; I'll be honest with you and tell you I LOVE mine. I always make comments to DBF about it being one of the best things I ever bought. It CAN get boring, so there are a few things I do.

1) Creative music choice: if I need a break from a program (I did C25K when I first started too - don't forget that if a day is too hard for you, or you're not ready to run for 20 minutes for example, you can redo other days; I did that a couple of times!), I'll put a 35 minute playlist together on my iPod that has a slow song (warm up) then a fast song (first run) then a slow song (walk) then a fast song (run) and then cap it off with a "ending song" for my slow down at the end. It can be fun sometimes, but I have to change the music often or I'll get bored.

2) TV shows: I love shows like Biggest Loser, Amazing Race, and Survivor. I have several years worth of Survivor on my computer, and I'll start a show right when I get on the treadmill. I know I'll be on the treadmill for at least 45 minutes if I've got a show on, and I will alternate running with walking - like "I have to run until the first challenge" and then once it starts I'll walk during the challenge and then run until the next challenge. I just make it up as I go along.

3) I have the History Channel's "Modern Marvels: Walt Disney World" and will often watch that while on the treadmill as well.

4) I'll slow down the treadmill and then run "sideways" for 30 seconds, then walk forward, then "sideways" again, and then backwards. That breaks up the monotony. I'll grab my resistance band or weights and do a few chest or arm exercises on the walking portions of C25k, to change it up. Or I'll hit the 10% incline, run at that level for 10-40 seconds, and then go back down to 2%, and then go up to 8%, and back down to 2%.

As long as you're moving forward, you're going the right direction! :thumbsup2

When you're doing the 20 minutes day on C25k, start out on a low speed the first time you go through it - my first speed was 4.2 mph; super slow, but I could jog at that pace for DAYS. Once you get through it, you'll have a better idea of what speed is good for you, and you can do that one the next time. If you push too hard, you will probably have issues and then feel like it's too daunting (I did). Go slow, watch your breathing (keep it steady, and slow down if you're gasping at all); start small, and then do more from that base level - you've got all the time in the world, as May is plenty of time to train!

Glad you popped over!!! Thanks so much for the great tips :) I love our treadmill too!!! DH finds it boring but I cant run out in the cold winter snow and worry about slipping plus the cold weather hurts my lungs so I'll wait it out til spring inside and then get outdoors. It will be something for me to look forward to for now. Right now I have to compete with the dog for the treadmill!!! If he knows I'm heading down he'll run ahead of me and jump on it. :rotfl: So I let him jog for 5 - 7 min and then get on with mine but I prefer if I beat him to it so that I can do my stuff and then plop him on when I'm done while I do my stretches :goodvibes Silly dog! oh well - it means less time outside in the cold tossing his ball b/c he gets some exercise too.

I will have to let you know if I try any of your tips. For now I listen to the couch to 5K music and person. Once I'm through that though I'm sure I'll need further inspiration to keep going.

I'm debating getting an extra run in this week since I'm feeling good. I might get back to trying to fit in a fast mile once/week.:bounce:

That's so funny about your dog!! Does he really run on your treadmill?

I think c25k was very helpful. It definitely got me going, but I ended up running the 5k before I got to it on the program, just because it felt right to run it. Tonight was supposed to be a run day but i'm still recovering from my doctors visit so I'm just taking the day off. Back to it tomorrow, though.

Do you keep any kind of run diary? I keep one in an excel program on my comuter, and I like to look back and see what i've done. It can definitely be motivating.

The more you train, the more surprised you'll be. I didn't think I could do any kind of 5k, ever, as a reformed smoker and generally lazy person. Now I run a 5k several times a week.

Mini Update for 2nd week of January.
I am now 98% healthy!!! yay me!
My daughter would disagree b/c I still have the odd little coughing fit here and there but that's just b/c they linger a long time for me b/c of my hyperactive airways.

Anyway, I had a really good week, here it is...

Jan 8th - C-5K wk5 - 4K in 34.5 min. plus my 5 min cool down
Jan 10th - C-5K wk5 - 3.6K in 33 min. - a bit slower here but I'm adding on more jogging lengths so keeping my pace pretty even to get through it
Jan 11th - I wanted to sneak in a fast mile this week so I did it on this day. So 1mile or 1.6K in 12:03 - more like a medium to slow mile. LOL
Jan 13th - C-5K wk5 - final day on week 5 was a doozy - 20 straight minutes of jogging. I cannot beleive I did it!:jumping1: That is totally a record for me!! I've never jogged for 20 min straight. I am becoming a RUNNING BEAST! ;) lol Time wasn't so hot b/c I knew to keep it REAL slow jog to be able to make it the long haul so I did 3.29K in 31 min. but it's definitely a wonderful accomplishment for me.

So - I feel now that this running thing is getting addicting! I've finally made it to that point I guess. Today I was thinking - oooh, i should go for a jog today but I'm restraining b/c I know my body needs those rest days to recover in between and 4 jogs/week is probably sufficient. After all - the scale is showing me nicer numbers too these days :lmao: so no point in overdoing it.

So far SO good!!! That's 12.5K this week and I'm thrilled with that!!!

Here's a pic of me sporting my new hydration pack that I got for Christmas! I put it on for a run to make sure it's comfortable. We don't expect to need the water b/c they will be handing it out but this way DD and I will have something in case we are thirsty between water stops or don't feel like picking up a bottle to carry.

That's so exciting that you did your first 20 minute jog!!! It seems so daunting at first but once you've done it a few times it gets easier and easier. Congrats!

Also, nice to see your plans are coming together. That is going to be one action-packed trip! Sounds wonderful. Love the new hydration pack; it looks like it really fits in the right place and isn't too big or annoying. Hope you enjoy it!

WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!! We are out of triple digits at LOOOONG last and into double digits!!!!
This totally deserves a celebration so here is my double digits hApPy DaNcE!!!

:dance3:party::dance3:

ok, I think I got it out of my system now :) lol. 99 days to go!

Thanks for letting me share my excitement!

ok, now for...

ACCOMODATIONS:

We have only stayed in a WDW resort once (19 years ago), then we stayed a few times IN the world but at a non official Disney resort right across the street from DTD. We LOVE the convenience of the busses but we HATE that it's expensive and we don't have a kitchen b/c we like to make our own food alot of the time. That last time we got a condo in Kissimmee and LOVED LOVED LOVED it for the convenience and price but it was quite a ways from the parks. This time we are SO excited b/c we think we've finally figured it all out perfectly!! We got a condo for an AMAZING price of $70/night and one night free :thumbsup2. We have lots of room to spread out our stuff and it's only 2 minutes from the park entrance!!!! We are staying at Windsor Hills. We've rented off VRBO often and never had problems and this couple comes highly reccomeneded from other TGM'ers so that puts our minds at ease too.

Here are some pics I found online...

DD's room (she has a double bed plus bunk bed - no reason to have a messy room even if she wants to spread out her bought items to look at. lol

The giant chess set - i hope dd and dh get a chance to play it. lol

pool pictures - it looks gorgeous!!! ...

The slide - nothing too exciting but enough to keep dd happy :lmao:

And for the last 4 nights of our trip we are spoiling ourselves and staying here...
rpr.jpg

YAHOOOO - SOOO excited to be staying onsite at Universal  By staying onsite (We picked Royal Pacific Resort for it's tropical feel), we get front of the line access to the big rides and early entry into Wizarding World of Harry Potter :woohoo: We are pretty excited to be splurging on this site and I have worked VERY hard to be able to do it. As mentioned in my first post I've been doing some babysitting in the evenings and helping my dd with a flyer route to put money towards this trip so we can do a bit of splurging. I always feel guilty to get an expensive place or to get treats in each park (DD and I LOOOOVE frozen drinks and must have one EVERYWHERE we go on holidays) so the money from flyers and babysitting is going towards the expensive hotel and park snacks and to doing a few fancy Disney restaraunts.

Anyway, enough babbling and on to more pics of RPR!!...

and hopefully we'll get a little bit of this is a view!!!

So, April 26 to May 10th at Windsor Hills & 4 glorious nights at Royal Pacific Resort!!!!!! I can HARDLY WAIT!!:jumping1:

I love that chess set at the condo, and I agree about the kitchen situation; it's nice to be able to prepare meals when you want them.

Royal pacific looks so nice! Plus, it'll be nice and convienent for you guys during your Universal stay. Closer to the parks and early admittance. :thumbsup2

I know!! I'm so excited for the early admittance to WWOHP and for the front of the line access to all their main rides (other than in WWOHP). We are SO stoked for this - it'll be SUCH a great way to end our trip - go out with a bang - not have to do the commando style touring that we usually do. We are thinking of taking minimal stuff into the parks too so we don't have to worry about lockers. Just drink ice water and have somewhere to stash wallets. We can just come back after we are done riding for the photo stuff and so dh can get his camera fix!! lol

Mini Update 3rd weed January

The week started out pretty good on Sunday but by Tuesday I kept my run to 1k b/c something felt a bit uncomfortable in the back of my right leg. the next day I MADE myself get back to my couch to 5k plan though and was fine but something was still not feeling right in my leg. So I didn't run Thurs, Fri or today and today after helping dd with her flyer route and discovering that even THAT is bugging my leg I hopped onto the computer to do some research. It is definitely in my hamstring area - there are about 3 muscles I'm debating over but I'm pretty sure it's my semitendinosus that's bugging me b/c it says you will feel it when you bend your knee as in going to step up on a step and that is TOTALLY the action that makes me feel it!!!! so it's quite mild when I'm jogging b/c you only bend the knee a bit in that direction but it really bothered me after flyers b/c of all the stairs i step up to put them in mailboxes. So, here i am sitting on the couch icing it :( It really isn't bad but I find it's not going away so I think i need to take steps NOW and take a few days off instead of letting it get worse and having to take a few WEEKS off :scared1: I would definitely cry if i had to do that :sad1:

well, anyway, here is what I DID get done this week. I'm still happy with it!!

Jan 15 - c25K(wk6) 4.41K in 36.47 min
Jan 17 - 1mile or 1.5K in 12.50 min - this was a ROUGH running day - if found i just couldn't go very fast and it was killing me - in hindsight it could have been my leg issues dragging me down.
Jan 18 - c25K (wk6 2nd run) 4K in 34.45

Last run was on the 18th so today will be day 3 without a run :sad2: and I'm thinking right now i should definitely NOT run tomorrow either. Everything i read said to give this type of injury GOOD time to recover and that I shouldn't even be stretching it til it's pain free. I wouldn't say it's a full out injury but I'm definitely going to pamper it for a few more days to make sure it doesn't get out of control.

That's it for now. Thanks so much for reading and sharing my experiences and plans everyone!!!!!

Great PTR! We stayed in Windsor Hills once and loved it. I also really want to stay onsite at US/IOA sometime soon, so I can't wait to read how it is for you. Congrats on sticking with the 5k!

Thanks for posting Kellywashere :) We really are thrilled with WH!!! and it's so good to hear it from yet another person that it's a great place to stay.

We figure when we calculate how much money we are spending by staying at such an incredibly priced condo (price/night and cost of not having to eat out) it's only fair to add that little splurge at the end onsite :) :) Although I DID save up for it. hahaha -

still though - we've NEVER been able to find accomodations WITH a kitchen AND less than $90/night plus cleaning fees and taxes so this place really is a steal!!! No hidden costs - just add your tax.

Let me know if you get it booked!!
