desserts to go on ddp?

To be fair, it's the same at DLP - they do sell fruit on a few carts around the place but it's very expensive and usually a bit manky looking! I can cope for a short break, like at DLP, but 3 weeks would probably cause me problems!

I am hoping we can fill up on veg/salad bits they'll eat at buffets :thumbsup2.

The fruit on the carts at WDW is also not cheap. But it's far from manky looking and we love getting a few oversized bright red apples from the carts during our stay. Also, some of the CS places will let you have apple slices instead of fries (if they stock them) with your meal. We have never eaten a hotdog or burger and I'm not a fan of fries. What it boils down to is getting acquainted with the offerings on the menus and narrowing down a list of suitable options for grabbing your quick service meal in each park. Honestly, I have never been short of options. I just know what places not to bother with for food, but they really are few and far between.

If you're after salads and fruit and the type then buffets, breakfast and lunch and dinner have the best offerings. All the fast food places at the resorts we have stayed at have boxed salads and fruit and fruit cups too. It's easier at the hotels than the parks to eat healthily. But it can be found everywhere. What they are not good at is veges on your main meal plate at TS. But then if you want a salad. Don't order the steak ;)

We always choose plenty of buffets over the two weeks DDP as we have two fussy eaters and they all have fantastic salads and veg choices.

I usually have a huge salad to start as they have so many lovely options and then find I'm full up and miss out on all the other lovely stuff!

I tell myself every time to go easy on the salad and leave some room but I never do - I think by the evening I'm just craving veg and salads my stomach takes over. I do always find some room for those giant strawberries at Boma - we once had one the size of a satsuma!!!

We took away quite a few desserts in November and CM's were fine about it.

50's Prime Time was great as they let us order milkshakes as desserts which we took to Fantasmic! :)

Or if you are in a rush to go and watch a parade or show it works well taking them with you but I agree, I wouldn't want melting chocolate cake in my bag all day.

i have got a really sweet tooth and took all my evening desserts, i got a nice collection going on my bedside table also bottles of water seemed to have collected quite nicely ??

there was only so much carrot cake i could eat and i think i threw a pile of cakes away when we changed hotel.

We started 'collecting' at the beginning of some of our trips with good intentions of eating what we had brought back to the resort. The reality was that we ended up with a little fridge that had to be emptied every few days and involved a hike down to a trash can late at night :ssst::tiptoe::tiptoe: because I felt so guilty throwing all that food away. Once we had fridge space, we could start the process all over again. We seem to need to relearn this still, for the first few days of every trip

i would sit on the bed at 6am forcing the cake in lol then shower eat a bit more !!

tbh im still in shock i can not get enough food/cake here but wow i was sooo full all the time !! we really wanted the volcano at trex and im still kicking myself now that i didnt order it or even attempt it

Are you not having a car? fruit in supermarkets over there is far better than we get in the UK, ours here is almost like 2nd grade. Over there apples and oranges are twice the size and so much more juicy.

Yes we are, not sure when we'll actually get to a supermarket though - might be day 3 or so before we get as we are planning on stopping at Universal for a few days first. I don't want shopping to eat into that time too much as it's such a short stay anyway (sorry about the pun btw!) and I know if I get my Mum in a shop, it will be hard to get her out in under an hour I'm sure! :lmao:.

I do want to get some bottled water and DH may want some beers for WDW, so I guess we could make a quick detour to the fruit area too. We are only planning on having the car for one week - it's way too expensive to have it for all 3 when we are onsite for the majority of the time (we need a 7 seater to seat us all). So, the fruit isn't going to last for the whole duration of our trip.

I am sure we'll be fine - but I get what someone else says about them not being good at vege sides on your mains plate - 3-5 green beans seem to be the norm! This is also the case at DLP - it's clearly a 'Disney' thing! ;)

Really pleased the OP started this thread as it's really useful to know what you can and can't swap (or at least ask to swap!) :thumbsup2.

This is possibly going to sound really dense but do kids get the same choice of desserts that adults get on the QSDP? I've noticed that some menus say that meals come with grapes or apple sauce but are these sides or a dessert :confused3

No the kids don't get a separate dessert. Their meal is a main & 2 "sides".

Usually they can get a cookie and fries. Other choices are carrot sticks, grapes and applesauce.

For this reason, anyone with kids on the child's dining plan will probably not need to take their dessert to go.

My DD is odd she would rather have the grapes :confused3 I sometimes wonder if she is my daughter :rotfl:

As a few responses have noted above, on our last visit with free DDP in 2012, we more often than not swapped fries with a CS meal for apple slices or grapes, and the dessert for water or a fruit cup.

On a few occasions at TS meals, we were too full for dessert, but our server boxed it up to take away with us - only in Florida would we be having apple pie for breakfast!!!!
