So the Space 220 lunch includes an appetizer and entree. I’m pretty sure the answer is no, but can I substitute a dessert for an appetizer? It’s too much food for my daughter and I anyway but we’re going because she really wants to.

I cannot answer if they will allow a sub but if you ask they may. They have always been beyond accommodating to the point of willing to serve steak Blue.
As far as a lot of food it will depend on what you order. For example the sushi tuna app and salmon main the dishes are not large and both very good. The Steak and Fritas (fries) well you get a lot of fries. The pasta dishes are large. IMHO as we had most of the dishes between the groups for what is considered a lesser priced dish you will get more what is considered the higher priced dish you will get what is expected from a sig. restaurant. But no one will walk away hungry. We found the meals to be enjoyable and of better quality then a standard Disney restaurant the service was great as was the atmosphere.

Stalk the site for Lounge reservations if you just want to go into the restaurant. You’re not locked into the expensive prix fixe menu (though you can order it if you want) and anecdotally they will still let you order apps that are on the prix fixe menu a la carte in the Lounge. Lounge also has arguably a much better view of the windows because you’re sat further back from them and a bit higher.

I read somewhere - though I can’t recall where - that they’re only allowing people to order from the lounge menu now, which is much less appealing food to us.

We just went for lunch at Space 220 about a week ago. None of us asked for any substitutions so I can't really answer your specific question, but I did want to give Space 220 a little love. The atmosphere was very enjoyable and we took lots of pictures. The server was very attentive. We enjoyed our apps and entrees very much. My caesar salad was very good and my NY strip steak was also very good, but just a tad smaller than I was expecting. My wife and adult son also enjoyed their steaks. Son had the shrimp tacos and liked those as well. We were in and out in less than an hour which seemed just a little rushed. I would recommend this experience if you are going to be in EPCOT at meal time.

My experience is from 2021, so perhaps not relevant. We were there for lunch and were not able to substitute a dessert for an appetizer. Perhaps it depends on the server, or it may be they don’t have that flexibility.

A friend and I had dinner in the lounge last weekend. My friend didn’t care for anything on the lounge menu. She asked if she could have chicken fingers from the kids menu. She was allowed, it was $35 including dessert.
