Hi - well its 68 days till we set off on our trip & I'm starting to get excited so am thinking a little more about some of the details of our stay.

We have the ddp this time which we have never had before. I have booked all my adrs & am very happy with what we have got.

My question is will we be able to take away desserts from any of our meals? We don't usually have desserts but I have heard that some CS options include wrapped cookies etc as desserts? What are the chances of bringing away dessert from a TS meal? I don't want to ask to bring away dessert if it's not the done thing.

Thanks :-)

You won't be allowed to do this at any buffets or all you can eat restaurants but there is no harm in asking. DD has taken dessert away a couple of times. It probably depends where you go and what they have. Of course you are not compelled to eat the dessert. Even with CS meals I would never eat a dessert twice a day so at the resort I sub it for fruit and elsewhere we either share it or just leave it. Ordering food you don't really want is only going to increase the value of your bill and hike the tip you pay so it's not completely 'free' - especially if you didn't want it to begin with. Most places have whole fruit if you ask for it.

We take our desserts away alot, most places will allow this just ask your server

We have had servers almost plead with us to take desserts. They want their 18% tip. Declining dessert knocked $4-5 of the tips bill for 3 of us.

I found that but I know they won't get eaten even if I get them to go so I know it's a firm no and if they persist their tip gets knocked down.

I hate being pushed or pressured in to something I don't want!

From the title of this thread,I initially thought desserts were being discontinued from dining plan (and possibly being replaced with appetizers)

I have to say,I was a little disappointed!

Not a dessert person at all-certainly not twice a day-don't even have twice a week. However,Dh salivates at the mere mention of cake.:rotfl:

We did DDP 4 times and did enjoy it but its not our way of dining, we prefer to eat when hungry and not plan months in advance and like you rarely eat a dessert so twice a day is crazy. Thankfully they have increased prices so much its not even a consideration for us now.

Sorry I clicked edit instead of reply to your post.

We almost always take our TS deserts to go. Never had a problem with it other than we throw many of them away later anyway!!!!! Most CS places will swap desert for a bottle of water. I ten to do this. Or ask for a children's fruit bag desert. Then use them for breakfast.

They will never replace desserts with appetizers - appetizers would cost them more money :rotfl:

No probs.:)

I actually had withdrawal symptoms for bananas once on holiday-
when we were in the middle of nowhere.
however,sadly not saintly,as I delight in Cadburys chocolate.:hyper:

Thanks for the replies! We'd be most interested in getting more fruit & water so pleased this looks like an option for switching dessert items at CS meals. Our DDP was free so not overly worried about value for money buy pleased to hear there are choices :-)

As Wayne said-could still affect tipping at the end of the meal.:confused3

After three days in WDW I was actually craving vegetables! At least you can buy bananas in WDW, veggies however are quite hard to come by, particularly on the QSDP lol :)

Did you think so? I eat loads of salad and veg at WDW and we use the QSDP. I'm a bit picky and don't eat red meat or pork and don't like fried food so I've made sure I know where to get the stuff. The food court at POFQ serve hot veg after 5 pm with their dinner entrees so if you're desperate you could pop in there. I know POR do it as well but I am not sure if it is only certain resorts.

On a practical note about taking actual desserts (not fruit and water substitutes) to go, this may be stating the obvious but you have to note what you are taking with you and how it will fare with your plans for the rest of the day. While I'm sure plenty folk have lost their dessert on Mission Space Orange ;) a cheesecake slice in a polystyrene box taking a spin on RnR and playing with G-Force before standing in line with you in 32C and humidity of 100 is probably not going to look the same way as it did when you ordered it by the time you leave. Come to think of it, your park bag will probably never be the same again either

Very little veg in my experience in Disney TS restaurants. I don't eat enough veg but they certainly don't encourage me to eat more.

A few pics from DDP

I will never get over this one as long as I live, Cali Grill, it was like a micro portion, tiny bit of steak, 1 new potato cut in 2 and about 8 green beans for about $45.

That's utterly disgraceful.
My dmil would be sending that back.::yes::

She's never been to disney, but has been to Florida-and sizzler was a hot favourite. Early bird senior specials.:hyper:

While I have a super sweet tooth (and my DDs do too if given the chance!), I think we'll struggle with all the desserts if they do bring free DDP back. I have read a lot of the CS desserts in particular are the same old, same old!

I think I'll try the fruit or water option where possible.

As for veg, while I like sweet stuff, I like to ensure we all get our portions of veg! This may become an issue, as I am sure I'll struggle getting my DD2 to eat salad for lunch! :lmao: I am not that partial to salad myself - depends on what's in it really, but honestly, I think I'll be hitting them big style at WDW. Anything green and it will be game :rotfl:!

Just as an aside - I am presuming the majority of the snacks are not very nutritious either? I think I read a cheese & ham croque somewhere? Anything veg type available here - maybe veg crudites or something?

Resorts grab and go sections and also at Sunshine Seasons (CS) at Epcot and there are a couple of others I can't think of right off the bat:

All count as snack credits and I have also been allowed to take them as desserts, they include, but are not limited to portions of melon or melon and grapes mixed, a grape pot, celery and carrot sticks with a pot of ranch dressing, yogurts, side salads

Cosmic rays serves their chicken and ribs with a side of veg and Sunshine Seasons is your friend if you want variety and veg.

Really, you don't have to take the dessert. This is where paying for the DDP can weigh you down as you feel compelled to take it as you've paid for it already.

Are your kids under 10? The kids meals almost all come with a portion of grapes and carrot sticks. Those kids will happily eat your dessert for you. Try telling a 6 year old that grapes are dessert when your meal comes with a chocolate cake .....!

Cool - I'll write that down in my planner for future reference - thanks!

I am annoyed at the comment Wayne made (not at him personally) but the fact he felt some waiters pushed the dessert onto him to allow them a higher tip! My DH won't be having that I'm afraid - he hates having lots of food thrown at him on holiday - salads will be his staple I'm sure :lmao:.

DD2 will be under 10, DD1 will be over. They love crudites so would be happy with carrot sticks etc. But, I totally get your point about me sitting with chocolate cake as opposed to their grapes, it isn't going to happen is it :crazy2:.

It's a shame you can't take fruit with you on the plane as I'd be carrying bananas/apples etc a plenty! To be fair, it's the same at DLP - they do sell fruit on a few carts around the place but it's very expensive and usually a bit manky looking! I can cope for a short break, like at DLP, but 3 weeks would probably cause me problems!

I am hoping we can fill up on veg/salad bits they'll eat at buffets :thumbsup2.

Are you not having a car? fruit in supermarkets over there is far better than we get in the UK, ours here is almost like 2nd grade. Over there apples and oranges are twice the size and so much more juicy.
