Dessert Party, no hope left?

My wife really would like to watch Wishes on our next trip and I really dislike standing in a sea of people that are all packed together like a can of sardines. I would much rather take advantage of the ride queue dispersion and get some easy access to rides.

However, we've done it my way for the past couple trips so I need to compromise. I figured doing the tomorrowland terrace dessert party would be perfect since we can sit comfortably and watch the show. BUT, the day I want is August 30th which is the day of our arrival and there are no available tables. Do you guys think there is any hope of snagging a reservation or should I just cross it off the list and forget about it?

I'd keep trying but wouldn't hang my hopes on it. It is possible that someone could cancel last minute...you never know!

I would pass on the Dessert party, did it a couple of weeks ago for the second year in a row and it is definitely not worth it. Not organized, incredibly long lines, view was ok but you could not hear the narration at all! Plus, the desserts just were not that good either, or maybe we were spoiled by so many fabulous desserts all week at the restaurants. Anyway can't understand how they can pipe in the music and narration to other areas but cannot hear at the Dessert party. Then at the end they basically kick you out of the place. It was the only disappointment of our 12 day trip, save your money is my advice and grab a Mickey Bar.

wow at this it's been 2 years since the last time I did the TTFDP. But I will have to say my experience was much different. I don't remember any problems with the sound (although I know the whole script by heart.) It was well organized, the deserts I will agree are not great, but they are good. And contrary to being kicked out at the end, we sat quietly talking as the broke down things, they even offered us basically everything that was left, plus brought us a fresh carafe of coffee when it was clear we were just waiting things out.

That said, OP, keep trying people do cancel, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Did you try to look for a reservation with 1 more person than you need? This is the only way we could get a reservation for Sept 2 :( Yes, I bought the extra ticket..

You could probably call and cancel that additional ticket and get refunded (as long as you are still outside the cancellation period).

OP- have you looked into any other experiences for fireworks viewing? They have Wishes cruises or the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage. Those do not originate in the MK, but you would be able to view the fireworks without the crowds.

What about trying for dinner at California Grill? This close, you'll have to search for an ADR, but it's one more option for a less-crowded way to watch the fireworks.

No chance. You have to pay at time of reservation so very few people cancel. What about a FP for fireworks?

If you make that extra person an infant the reservation is still for one more person than you need and you aren't out any money...I may know this from experience.

As this will be my first trip trying out the dessert party, I can't speak to it's worth... But I wouldn't give up! I was able to snag a reservation only a few weeks ago (and my trip is in early Aug)! It would probably be easier if you had a few more dates to look at. The chances of finding the exact date you want, this close, are much lower in probability. But! Magic happens, so don't lose hope!

Good luck!

I wouldn't give up. Last year we decided late in the game that we wanted to do the dessert party, at first the ADR Lady kept telling us that there were no available tables. So what I did was I called everyday in the morning and at night (because like any ADR people cancel and spots open up every so often), we eventually got a reservation for 4 a week before we left for our vacation (because another family had cancelled). Just be persistent and don't give up! The party is definitely worth it in my opinion because if it is sprinkling you can stank under the cover of the terrace and still see the fireworks, plus you aren't stuck in the crowds. You can also see the electric light parade from the terrace too. I wish you good luck.

We're in the same boat - can't get one for a mid-November date, no matter what party size I check.

Worst case scenario, FP+ is a decent option. The FP+ area is a large grassy area, so you can sit and relax a little bit. Better still than fighting the crowds.

My experience last November would echo that of ChiDisneyFan.

We were on pins and needles hoping to snag a cancellation, got one and were pretty disappointed by the experience. Not worth the money at all. DD10 is the only one who speaks positively about the event, and that's more because she got some kick out of leaving and re-entering the party with her wristband. :rolleyes2

Also, you can't really "sit comfortably and watch the show" as it's under the terrace and, since you're trying to snag a cancellation, your table will probably be closer to the back so all you'll see is the roof. We had to stand in the crowd at the railing to watch the fireworks, along with most everyone else.

Really, the dessert party detracts from the fireworks as you spend so much of your time going back to the buffet to see if they've replenished that one dessert that you liked (they haven't).

We won't be doing this one again unless they totally revamp it.
