Dessert overload?

Let's see....if you're on the DDP, dessert comes with each meal. Then, seems to me like alot of the DDP snacks are ice cream bars, dole whip, cookies, and funnel cakes. Then we have the refillable mug for use at the resort for lemonades and pop. I have seen it suggested to grab cinnamon rolls, muffins, and yogurt for breakfast. Now I see people excited that the Wishes Dessert party is back (sounds fab, btw). But man, I am getting a cavity and major sugar overload just thinking about all that!! Am I the only one?

Last year after we got back my DH and I went grocery shopping and he said lets get some ice cream. I looked at him like he had 2 heads and said are you nuts! :rotfl: He then said I had dessert with every meal last week and now you want to cut me off cold turkey? :rotfl2:

Love this!!! Too funny! :rotfl:

I never thought I would ever turn down desert and my youngest son has been known to ask what is for breakfast desert after a week at grandma's but.... we actually took deserts back to the room for later and didn't eat them! Next trip we will know not to waste and for our waist - turn down the occasional desert.

I'm a marathon runner and really a pretty healthy eater. But I can't wait to get to the world just to sample something at every bakery and then polish it all off with a frozen latte at Ghiradelli's as I'm walking around Goofy's Candy Co.

I'm not a huge fan of the desset options at many of the CS locations so oftentimes we'd get something like yogurt or fruit as a sub for a standard dessert and that helped to cut down on the overload.

I know i keep thinking of all of the goodies and get excited about it, but when it comes time I pretty much have to control myself so i dont get sick and usually dont eat as much as i think i would. I'd like to do the dessert party but cant justify the cost, especially with all of the buffets we do (during free dining) and get a selection of desserts on the buffet anyway, i cant see doing more dessert later on and paying all that money for 5 people.

This is one of the major reasons why we did not like the dining plan. I'm all for the love of sugar but I can't love it that much.

Can you get fresh fruit as a dessert anywhere- say an apple or banana?

There were fruit, non sugar or healthier desserts at many of the places we ate. IWe also used our snack credits for fresh fruit and veggies at many places. DS ran out of line at the Main Street Bakery to get an orange. So there are healthier options available if you want them.

I'm sorry, but if I want a banana or an orange I can head to my local grocery store. When I'm at Disney I want to indulge in all those delicious calor-ific treats that Disney is oh so famous for. I'm on vacation for cryin' out loud!

Dole Whip anyone?:worship:

Me, Yarna! Me too!!! I am good at home, but at Disney...

I want a Dole Whip every day! I can feel my vitamin C levels rising now!:lmao:

First of all, I like my dessert, and going from sedentary to walking 10+ miles a day, the quick energy is actually appreciated. There are ways to avoid sugar overload, however, such as skipping or splitting desserts, attempting to get fruit (even if it means a kid's fruit cup) in lieu of dessert, etc.

As for snacks, we found ourselves getting a fair number of savory snacks, such as pretzels, popcorn, and the like, or else using them on drinks. (Not to say we didn't get dole whip floats or the occasional ice cream, mind you.) We also frequently split snacks when possible.

To avoid "mug" sugar overload, stick with Diet Coke or Coffee or Iced Tea with a sugar substitute. I can't stand sugary soda even if I'm not having any other sugar around it... yuck!

I didn't say I ate any of the healthier stuff but the kids did. I on the other hand, had a dessert cheat sheet of sorts that I had compiled from this board. DH and I also came back a bit fluffier than when we left but it was well worth it!

This is why I gained 15 lbs on my last WDW trip (first time on DDP) even with all the walking. We did do healthy choice breakfasts in the room. In comparison, I just got back from a seven day cruise and didn't gain a pound. My first week back from WDW I melted 5 pounds off very quickly (just by getting back to a regular environment). I thought we wouldn't NEED all those desserts either but turns out if we weren't at a buffet we needed them just to feel full. Then again maybe all the sugar pumping was leaving us with that general 'not full' feeling. Best of luck to ya.
