Desert Inn and Suites...did I make a mistake?

I booked this awhile ago on the recommendation of some here, but the recent reviews on tripadvisor have me worried.


Anyone stay there recently? We aren't picky, I just need clean and a decent bed.

Is it the desert palm Inn and suites? We are staying there end of May because I heard good things. I too saw some bad trip reports but most seem positive so I am not going to sweat it. Like you Im just looking for a bed to sleep in. And I always bring my own sheets, blankets and pillows no matter what hotel I stay at. Those investigative reporting shows have me paranoid about hotels now.

Desert Palms is different.

Desert Inn. I booked there at the recommendation of family who ALWAYS stay there. I think as long as you don't expect the world you'll be ok. We're in it for a spot to crash only anyway lol

We've stayed at the Anaheim Desert Inn and Suites for the past 18 years and have never had a problem. Reservations were always in place. Rooms were always clean. It is nothing fancy - believe me. But I would rather just have a clean, inexpensive, convenient room and save my money for food and souveniers. The continental breakfast is just toast, danish, coffee, milk, OJ, oranges or apples, and cereal - nothing fancy but fills the pit until you have a yummy meal in the park. The pool is indoors and heated - the kids always have fun in a pool no matter what. It isn't like staying on-property, which we do get to do now and again but only if we get super cheap rates...

We stayed there in January and are staying there again next month. It's always been clean for us; the only problems we've had are parking (but they'll valet it somewhere if there isn't any parking for the same $8 fee) and a slow elevator. The location is fantastic!

It's not bad, the beds are HARD, so when I drive I always bring an egg crate thing but it's clean, close and the people are nice. Can't beat the location. Since it is so close, we tend to park our car and not go anywhere until we leave. One of the reasons we like the Anaheim Plaza is because of the HUGE pool and the HUGE parking lot but it is farther.

We stayed there last June and are planning on staying there again in March. We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are nice and clean, and you can't beat the location. Like the PP said the breakfast is very basic and keep in mind that the parking is $8/day whether or you use the valet or not. So take advantage of the valet!!

This is what I'm afraid of. I have a horrible time sleeping on hard beds. We are flying, but I guess worst case scenario I can drive over to Wal-mart and get a $30 topper and leave it there when we leave.

Plus you'd still be paying less than most other hotels

The hotel/motel itself is your basic motel. The beds are hard & uncomfrontable for us. I love the location, being able to run back to the hotel for an afternoon break or to change for the cooler evening weather. After staying here twice we won't stay again based soley on the beds.

I wrote a tripadvisor review once that I titled: Sleep in the parking lot it would be more comfortable. I get the topper thing with the foam on one side and the egg crate on the other. Sometimes I get a K size and cut it in half, but then again I'm driving and when we get home I put it on my kids beds so it won't be a waste of $$. It also helps if we stay at a motel 6 one way down. I'm weird what can i say

Oh no! That's totally not what I wanted to hear. I hope that my MIL is ok on these rock hard beds. Our bed at home is a super soft pillow top, so anything feels hard compared to it, but I know HoJo's beds are comfortable enough.

Crap. 2 weeks and pretty much everyone is booked so we can't move. I hope that DH will let us get a topper or I'm going to have a seriously cranky back!

We've stayed in better,($$),we've stayed in worse.
We stayed there a year and a half ago and will stay there again at the end of this year. It worked for us. Good sized fridge,a microwave and a safe to stash our stuff. Room was good sized and best of all,,,,close to the park.

I am glad I saw this thread. I had just booked DI&S for our May trip (after reading people on the DIS talk about the close location). After reading multiple posts about hard beds, and then looking up Expedia reviews and also seeing people say that the hotel was loud at night during their stays, I decided not to take the chance and I canceled our ressies there. As a PP mentioned, everything is filling up, and I was having a tough time finding what we needed as a replacement (I'm kicking myself for missing those HOJO ent. rates for May!). Considering Holiday Inn now.

The only thing I could personally say I didn't like were the slow elevators. I dd not find the beds hard at all, they were just to my taste. I switched over there after the Grand Californian in 2010 and in GC the beds were way too soft for my feeling. Everything else was perfect for me. Not noisy at all. If you think you may be bothered by the parking lot noise ask for a room at the back of the hotel. It is insanely quiet in that area behind the parking lot, and the elevator is nowhere as busy too.

you have made me question it too, but i have looked at loots posts on these boards and see enough pros to out wight the cons. i hope the ebds arent to hard but i think it will be alright.

After spending 2 hours calling every GN hotel in the vicinity, no one else had room while we were there except for the Grand, and that's not in our budget so we'll be sticking with it. I figure, even if we have to purchase a blow up bed and sleep on that instead, it will still be cheaper than going over to the GC.

We stay here anytime we come with our kids. It just has two outstanding factors that can't be beat....location and price! Yes, the beds are firm. Actually my whole family likes the beds just fine. I also like that it is quiet. Noise isn't a problem. It's a typical hotel setting. Heck, I am bothered more at the Grand Californian next door bathroom noises.

Something I would suggest for those who are concerned about the beds...bring a cheap topper or aero mattress.

The breakfast is convenient for milk, juice, and cereal. We always make an online order with Mimis for muffins. There is always a special or coupon. Makes for a good addition to the standard hotel fare.
