Dept. 56 is expensive and rarely goes on sale. Craigslist and ebay are your best bet for the resale market. Sometimes you can find a store that is offering a general holiday discount that can also be applied to Dept 56 items but it's rare. Boscov's and Macy's sometimes discount them near the holidays. Their selections are usually very limited.

There are Dept 56 "groups" on the internet if you google them. Not sure if budget but some of the smaller pieces may not be out of reach. Have fun, it can be an addiction for sure:)

Thanks for the info - yes I am finding they are NOT budget :) But I think it will be a fun collection to start... looking at all the different villages I think I am going to concentrate on the DIseny VIllage even though I found a few pieces I really like that are in different collections (Tack Shop and HOrse Stable (I am a horse nut)

Craigslist or Garage sales....people selling off their collections.

I just saw somebody here that is selling their stuff on Craigslist. I have no idea if the prices are good or not. Check CL in Jacksonville, FL. It was located in one of the small towns around Jax. Good Luck!!

Sears has very small collection of the pieces to the village for cheaper and they usually go on sale closer to christmas. I bought pieces the past 2 years at Menards closer to Christmas on sale. I haven't been there yet to see if they have any of the village this year.

I've bought my pieces at Sears. Usually full price...but last year I think I got a building and a couple small pieces after Christmas for 40% off.

Also, some holiday stores...the ones that only pop up at Christmas and sell ornaments and other holiday decorations, have them.

Hubby said he got these at Sears... and that they were very picked over already... :) I will have to watch for sales

D56 is definitely not budget. Pieces get retired on a yearly basis, and the prices for those pieces can easily go through the roof compared to what they originally retailed for. Newer ones, you don't have too many options. Some stores that only stock them seasonally, will put them on sale the day after Christmas. Stores that carry them year round, like some Hallmark stores, will usually only put select pieces on sale when they aren't moving, but are typically excluded from post holiday sales.

Older pieces will often pop up on eBay and the like. You can luck out and get them for fairly cheap if someone is just getting out the game, or can end up paying lots for harder to find pieces.

Sears.com has the best prices I have seen. Go to Sears.com and do a search for "Disney Village". It doesn't specify that they are the Dept.56 items, but I am sure that they are. Just make sure that you are looking at the items that are actually sold by Sears, not by other sellers in the "Sears Marketplace" or whatever they call those seller.

Mine are all from Sears, none were full price, several were 50% off :cool1:

I am having so much fun :) I keep watching Craigslist in my area too but nothing yet... :) I found some really cool stuff on ebay.... lots on my watch list :) I cant believe how much fun I am having...

I got mine the past two years at Sears and they do run sales on them during the holiday season.:thumbsup2
