Depressed after WDW

I say count your blessings that your are financially able to visit so often. The economy hasn't been so kind to all of us. We are on the road to recovery, but it's been two years and counting since we've visited the mouse. Hopefully, maybe next year.

I can only speak formyself and my family but we absolutely do count our blessing, however having something you taked about for years, read about, planned for be over can be sad, doesn't mean we don't appreciate it. We have had a few really bad times financially and some better so we never take our blessing for granted for sure.

Back to the OP, one thing we did this year that was a lot of fun and gave us Disney spirit that we plan to make a family tradition is we hosted an Ice Cream for Breakfast event for Give Kids the World. We did it though Girl Scouts this year so we couldn't raise money so we raised supplies off their Wish List. We had lots of Disney decorations and lots of fun (as well as make your own ice cream sundaes for breakfast for all!) I know GKTW are not Disney specifically, but the kids do go to Disney and we love Disney so we went that direction. Now when our family goes in November we will be taking the Donations over as a family to deliver them. Next year we will be doing it as a family event and will be raising money, not supplies, but a big Disney themed ice cream party for a great cause might give you something to look forward to between trips!

I'd hate to be as unhappy about the real world as a few of you. I used to get really upset too but life was really bad in those days. I have my problems now but I also have great things to look forward to and that is key IMO. Find some things at home that you really enjoy and schedule some of that for right after your trip. Vacations are supposed to make you happy!

Im very fortunate that I was able to sacrifice my daily wants for my children to visit WDW for their first time 2 weeks back. Im also thankful that now I knwo the importance of saving and budgeting so me and my hubby can enjoy a early trip in May.

I totally get that way too. the way we help the Disney blues is we have Disney movie nights and use our new and old Disney popcorn buckets and mugs. Its cheesy i know but it helps!

We're huge family night fans. My DH and I enjoy going out with friends once in awhile but would rather be at home with the kids. Some day they will be gone and we'll have lots to time to go out and do things. We usually pick a disney movie. We use to order pizza but we're trying to change that. We want to start trying a new receipe and make it with the kids then watch a movie. On our past trip we bought mickey glasses, refill mugs, and a big mickey bowl (would be great for popcorn). We'll have to use them on movie nights. My DH doesn't know all the stories about the characters since he hasn't watched all the movies. This will give us a good chance to update his brain so he knows everything he can. Wish we could do this for this upcoming saturday but we have a fundraiser for the women's shelter. DH has to dress like a woman and walk a mile in heels. Maybe we can get home in time for a shorter verison of movie night.

We're always looking for fun fundraising ideas for groups we help. I'll have to keep this in mind when I'm at meetings and we need ideas. thanks!

I don't think we're "unhappy about the real world". I love my life at home. I work full time and have lots of clubs/groups I volunteer with. At Disney I get a chance to be a kid again and forget about being an adult. I love my vacations and they do make me happy. However I get sad it's over. Plus I had my kids and DH with me 24/7 basically on vacation. I don't get that at home because of work, school, and other activities. I have bills to pay and both of us have to work. My DH has cancer (leukemia) so being on vacation also helps us forget that any day things could change and it helps us forget about his chemo he's taking. I guess it's just hard to come home to the everyday stresses. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has lots of stress at home it may be different from one person to the next.

:thumbsup2 I feel this way sometimes, too! It's the same with Christmas -- all the anticipation and busy-ness leading up to the 25th, and then afterward I feel kinda like, "...um...what now?"

That's what happens to me too. I think I look forward to it so much and work so hard on trying to get everything perfect, I don't know what to do with myself when it's over!

Its just like a wedding. The ladies plan and plan and the day finally comes and boom its over. They spent so much time planning every detail they dont know what to do afterwards. They actually have a syndrome related to this:scared1:

Funny...my DH said the same thing last night. Said it reminds him of when we planned our wedding.

Oh no and I just got engaged! And we planed on honeymooning in Disney, I might get hit with a double whammy after all that!! :scared1:

Double Whammy! I bet it will be amazing hope it all goes magical!

It's harder of course when you have difficult things to deal with. I hope for the best for your hubby!

Some people just seem to live only for their trips and they get so depressed when they're over with. I feel sad for them.

I enjoy my day to day life, and all that goes with it.. I was just feeling a little blue that it was over after all the planning and anticipation (and a less than ideal end to the trip). Note.. "a little blue" not despondent, hoplessly dissatisfied with my real life, ungrateful, or any other erroneous judgement that might be thrown into this thread in the next 52 pages while everyone weighs in with their opinions on how sad and unrealistic that is, argues with one another and t/j's mercilessly.

I guess I took this thread as lighthearted .. not making statements about how pathetic every day life was. My mistake.

DH got to spend lots of one on one time with the kiddos on this trip. It opened his eyes to remember how important it is to take time for the little things. (already did but helps us slow our life down a little where we can) We got to know our kids even better and noticed little crazy things about them. I get tears in my eyes over the littlest things...dance recitals, plays, music concerts, etc... I know one day my kids will be gone and I don't want to look back and say I wish I would have. I want to say I'm glad I did! (Even if it's as simple as taking the time to go to the park). DH was told 10 yrs ago he had 2 yrs at most to live. I think of that when we're at a dance recital and he wasn't suppose to be here! Disney just brings it up to a bigger level! We're making memories but wish we were still there making more. We'll enjoy what we have at home and look forward to Disney. Have to admit today has been easier than the day before. Life is getting back on track. Almost fully unpacked and normal again!

I'm not talking about everyone here. You haven't seen those people who say that they cry for hours and so on? Never mind - I was feeling sympathy for THEM but apparently that's bad.

That's amazing. Thanks for sharing. :)

I absolutely did a little blue (not depressed though) - so much so that I convinced DH to go in a couple of weeks (we were there in Feb). After this we won't get to go until 2012 - I'll just have to deal!

I'm sorry. I wasn't referring to you specifically. I thought before I even posted though that this would eventually turn into a debate on gratefulness and money and blah blah blah. It just seems so testy around here lately. Silly issues turn into 2000 pages.. usually I am good at avoiding it, today I was feeling defensive. Again, I apologize if I offended you personally Planogirl.
Time for me to turn off the computer and go make spaghetti sauce.

I think sometimes what comes out in writing isn't the way we expected it to be taken. I know what you're saying. I've said something before and it was taken the wrong way. No worries! enjoy cooking! my spaghetti sauce comes from a jar at walmart wish I had to brains to make my own!!!

That's computers. I think I misread. :flower3: In a way, I think that I was trying to head off any nastiness towards those that might be a little over-sensitive about this.

Spaghetti sauce sounds good...
