He'll be fine. Since both flights are United, they're in the same concourse (B). He can just walk from one gate to another once he gets up the stairs.

DIA is beautiful and very well organized. Relax - he'll be home to see you soon!!

He'll be fine. My 15 yo dd flies unaccompanied and Denver is her favorite airport to transfer flights because it's very easy for her to get around.

Is your son living in Durango? I used to live about an hour south of there in Farmington, NM. Durango is one of my favorite little towns!

Enjoy your time with your son!

It is a large airport, but actually quite easy to navigate. Since he will just be changing planes, there will be no need to go to the terminal.

There are three parallel concourses (A,B,C), with an underground train that connects them. Concourse B is the United concourse, with some United Express in Concourse A. He will probably land at concourse A, follow the signs for the train, go downstairs for the train and go to concourse B. This should take less than 15 minutes, so an hour layover is plenty of time.

Don't worry and tell him to look at the displays in the tunnel. There are propellers mounted on the walls that spin when the train goes by. There are 5,280 of these propellers to signify the Mile High city.

www.flydenver.com is DIA's website. There are some pretty good maps and info there.

thanks .. ok excuse me cause i am the worrying type can you tell ;) will he know to take train is there a sign?? THANKS AGAIN , AND AGAIN

No Denver help, huckster, but just wanted to say that hoping your boy is coming along well and also your hubby.

A few weeks ago, I did a United Express/United transfer at Denver. I was supposed to have just over an hour, but due to weather affecting the United Express props only (jets were fine), I ended up with 15 minutes to make my connection. Thankfully Denver airport is very easy to navigate. I made it, but I had to MOVE! I was going from Gate B-60 to B-20, and that is a long haul! Your son should be fine.

A side note, on my way through Denver to my destination, I had over an hour on the ground and neither of my bags made my connecting flight. On the return trip with only 15 minutes on the ground, both bags made the connection. Go figure!

If he has to take the train, there are signs all over the place. The train lobby is very easy to spot, as it is in the center of the concourse and is open to the second floor, so you can look down into it. There are escalators and elevators on both sides with very well marked signs.

But remember, concourse B is strictly United, so chances are he may not even have to take the train. There are some United Express in A, but more in B.

Also, just rereading your original post, I want to reassure you that there are no stairs from the tarmac into the concourse. It is all jetways in B right into the building. The only stairs he will encounter would be if he had to go down to the trains. And there are 2 escalators going down on each side, so it can handle a big capacity. The trains are also high capacity and run frequently. The longest we have ever waited for a train was 5 minutes and that is only because our kids always want to be the first on so they could get the window in the front. So, we waited for the next train to come.

He should be fine. Nothing to worry about.

Also try not to panic too much. If he did miss his flight, the airline would attempt to get him on the next plane. I know the airline I work for we dont charge for this service, but I dont know if that is the case for all airlines.
