Our first 10 years of marriage we did not have Dental Insurance.

When we finally got it. Anyway.....

I had a root canal done 3 years ago on a back molar.

This past winter I had another root canal done on they other side of my mouth.

When I got my bill, the insurance only paid half. I called up the insurance company and asked why.

She told me they started paying only half about a year ago and some insurance companies will only pay 30%. I couldn't believe it. She said it is because so many people are having cosmetic capping of their teeth.

And, they will only pay for one root canal every 3 years. Yike's, what happens to the people that really need more than one root canal done.

I had a crown put in last year (or the year before - I forget) - most intense pain ever. Our insurance covers one every FIVE years. And for what *I* paid out of my pocket - let's just say I could have stayed in Disney for a few days - at a moderate.

one of my co-workers DH's needed 3 root canals and 2 crowns...she didn't even want to look at the dental bill.

I don't think a root canal or a crown should be considered 'cosmetic' though. I can see the front teeth being more $$$ as they most likely need to be capped/veenered after...but a couple back molars that need work?
