Denise's Days (Comments Welcome!)

good morning denise :sunny:

i'm so with sharon about the pizza. first, about restraining yourself to one piece. absolutely fabulous. second, about the area we live in (i say we because i'm gonna guess she's got the same type of pizza i've got...we're in the same "general" area anyway...kinda close to nyc). i can't handle pizza anywhere else in the country! same thing with bagels. the real deal is right here. you must come and try it :)

and about your snack...maybe next time do just pick one thing if it made you too full. unless it's something you're really craving, then i'd say go for it, because if you don't, it could backfire later.

as for the elliptical, i feel the same way about it! yeah it burns more calories, but i just feel like running is getting me in better shape too! totally know what you're saying. like you, i can't really explain it either. but at least we understand what we're saying :teeth:

hope you have a great day today :hyper:

Sharon, I know what you mean about pizza--it must be an east coast thing--the best pizza I've ever had is in upstate NY. I do not hold back when we go visit my ILs in NY; there is such good food up there. Though, I always feel like I'm pigging out and MIL always says we don't eat enough. :scratchin I wonder who's eating healthier. :p I really like the elliptical--it kicked my butt when I first started using it, but that's a good thing! Trust me, if you can do the *evil* machine for 30min. you can do this for the same. It gives you a total body workout b/c you are using your arms too--it even burns more calories than running and is great for you, since you hate to run! :)

Holly, Thanks for stopping by my journal. Writing out what I eat really helps me improve what I eat--I definitely recommend it. As far as exercise goes (good job yesterday, btw), you have to ease into it. If you don't like it and haven't been doing it, try several different things to find something that you enjoy. Also, don't go all out at once, you'll get sore and may get discouraged. Good luck! :)

Sunday:

B: 1/2 cup egg beaters, 8oz. light oj, ff hash browns ("fried" in water, not oil)

L: Fideo, pinto beans on a wheat tortilla, 1/2 cup corn

W: bike 45min., Winsor Pilates 60min.

D: plain oatmeal, 1tbs. rf PB sandwich on light ww, light chocolate soymilk

S: 1/3 cup strawberries, 1/2 a banana, and some ff coolwhip drizzled w/ Hershey's syrup

I purposely had a light dinner so I could have dessert. I know this dessert is not bad for me, but it is so good that I always feel a little guilty. It was a pretty good day. DH and I never did make it to run, hence the late workout on the bike and pilates. We had a pretty lazy day and didn't accomplish much besides grad work and laundry. K, I'm off to do some more grading. Have a wonderful day, everyone! :sunny:

I just had to say--Hi, Marcia! You must have been typing while I was! :) See above for my comment about the pizza! :sunny: I hope you are having a wonderful day--TTYL :wave2:

Good morning! :sunny:

Sounds like you are doin well. Wish I had more time to spend cheering you all on. But school, work and homework keep me pretty busy. I will post when I can. I haven't forgotten about you. ;)

The idea of ziploc bags w/ nuts is a good one, you could do that one @ school then you don't have access to more. I know I am the same way. I love nuts, especially pecans! mmm....

Good job on exercising! How do you like Pilates? I am curious about that. I wish there was more time in a day. I always feel like I don't have time to exercise. Someday, I feel guilty even saying that. Ugh!

Anyways, back to you. Keep up the good work. Sounds like 1.5 pounds is definately doable for you this week! :Pinkbounc

Talk to you soon.

good morning denise! just wanted to wish you a wonderful tuesday. hope yesterday went well too ::yes:: . i'll check back in again after you post your report from yesterday :)

::MickeyMo princess: and Court, thanks for stopping by my journal! I really do like pilates, but as far as results--I don't think I've been doing it long enough to say--I'm not totally convinced though. I do feel my abs on certain moves and definitely feel my butt on the long tape, but I've never been sore from it. I like that I had a good workout; I'm a little sore feeling. :p When you have some time, see if your library has a tape so you can try it before you buy it. I will continue doing it--we'll see how it goes.

Monday:

B: plain oatmeal, 1 slice light ww toast, 8oz. light oj

L: Ham sandwich on light ww, ff yogurt, pineapple

S: (really more like an extra meal, I'll talk about that later)
Chicken sandich on light ww, banana w/ 1tbs. PB

S: 2 cc cookies, pretzels

D: Fideo and pinto beans on a wheat tortilla

K, w/o the cookies, it would have just been a high calorie day, but w/ the cookies it was an extremely high calorie day. The extra meal would have been okay, but the extra snack was not! I had my mentor class from 4:30-7:30 and that's why I ended up giving in to the extra snack. I thought I'd be okay since I at the extra sandwich and had my morning snack with it, but GRRRR! And, to top it all off, it was my off day. I'm still okay b/c it's early in the week and I have a lot of exercise coming up the next few days. ::yes:: Yesterday is gone and I feel confident about today. I was just soooo hungry yesterday; I have to stop skipping my morning snack b/c those seem to be the days I fall apart in the afternoon. The weird thing is I drank 60oz of water before 2:00 yesterday, which is probably better than most days, so why was I so hungry? I am allowing myself to have some M&Ms today b/c I decided to give them (among other things) up for Lent, which starts tomorrow. I think it will be easier if I allow myself to have some today and then after 7 weeks w/o them I won't want any anymore. I've done that with chocolate and pop before and those are things I can now take or leave. Anyway, I'm rambling now, so everyone have a great day and I'll TTYL! :)

i think that's why i've kinda strayed away from my pilates dvd as well. i know i should do it, because it's good for toning and making the body long and lean, but i feel like i get so much more out of 40 minutes on the treadmill, as opposed to 40 minutes of pilates. then again, i should just do both :p

yesterday wasn't too bad, at least you learned from it. i guess you may not feel like you need your morning snack at the time, but if you don't, it comes back to bite you later. gotta learn these things somehow. and i guess if it means cookies have to be involved, well then, so be it :)

good idea to have m&m's before you give them up. isn't that what the whole idea of fat tuesday is about anyway? eating lots before the fast? :p yeah, so i used to give stuff up for lent. i'm catholic (well, at least i was raised catholic), but i'm not so big into religion these days. my parents used to make us do it when we were younger, it was usually ice cream :)

anyway, i hope you have a great day today :sunny:

Hi Denise!:wave2:
Isn't it funny how some days we are just so gosh darn hungry?! Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to those days for me. They just sort of happen.
Overall, I don't think the day was too bad for you. So don't sweat, just move on! I like your idea about giving up the M&Ms and then not wanting them anymore. You'll have to let me know if that really works!
Have a great day today!:sunny:

Thanks you two! Your messages always make me smile and feel good. :bounce:

Marcia, I know what you mean about religion; I was raised Lutheran, but haven't been to church in years. I still always give things up for lent and I'm not sure if it's out of habit or guilt, but I do know that if I give something up for lent I will not eat it for those 7 weeks b/c I would feel massive guilt. I don't know; it's kind of weird.

Sharon, I don't think I'm saying I will NEVER have M&Ms again, but I know in the past, after giving pop and chocolate up for so many years, I had to stop giving them up b/c I just don't really eat them anymore. It's weird how I go the entire summer without candy or junk food, but when school starts again and it's here, I'm all over it.

Tuesday:

B: Coco wheats, 1 slice light ww toast, 8oz light oj

S: M&Ms --bye bye my friends :wave2: :p

L: ham sandwich on light ww, ff yogurt, bean taco on ww totilla

W: upper body, 1 mile on the rower (this only takes about 8 min., but it's tough)

S: animal crackers

W: 15min. ellipticating (1.5miles), 1.5 mile run and a 5min. cooldown

D: lf fish (a baked filet only 130cal and 2 fat grams), green beans, and brown rice

Normally I list my workout together even if there is time between, but yesterday there was actually a snack between. I was at school for the first part and then at home for the rest (club house). I did a lot of things, but not for very long. It takes me between 45-60 min. to do my upper body and I had a little extra time so I hopped on a rower (it's great for the abs). I was just planning on running, but I had to wait for a treadmill, so I got on the elliptical. I felt really good yesterday. And--I finally solved my lack of water problem. I was using an 8oz travel mug for my water and never go enough. Now I'm using a 20oz water bottle and I'm drinking between 60-80 oz just at school. W/ the smaller cup it was just lack of time to go fill it all the time. This is great! Oh, I almost forgot--I'm wearing a pair of my size 6 pants today! They've been tight lately. I noticed my 8s were getting really loose again and I couldn't wear them w/o a belt so I decided to try the 6s. I would still like them to fit me a little better, but woo hoo! :hyper:

aaaaa, size 6 pants!!! that is so great!!! i'm so jealous, that's my goal :p . good for you, oh that is wonderful news :teeth:

and yeah, the religion thing for me is totaly guilt right now. since i live with my parents, they "make" me go to church every weekend. i mean, they tell me i have a choice, but that they'll be disappointed if i make the "wrong" decision. yeah, that's a choice. so it's just easier to give up that 1 hr to keep them happy. whaaatever.

good job with the water too. bigger cup = less having to refill = easier to fit into your schedule ::yes:: .

you've got all sorts of great stuff happening, i can see why you're in a very excited and giddy mood :teeth: :hyper:

hope your day today goes as well as yesterday, or maybe even better! :bounce:

Denise - you are doing SOOOOO awesome! WTG!!:teeth:
Size 6?!!! What's DH saying now? Getting a little scared, huh???:hyper:  hahahaha, let him know I'm teasing him!;)

Your day yesterday looked great! I hope today is just as good for you! Keep up the good job! Weigh-in is coming up!;)

Sharon:wave2:

It's Wednesday, Denise - halfway to your next weigh-in. You look like you're on track! You seem to be feeling better than you were last week - more in control.

Hope all is going well for you!! :sunny:

Thanks you guys! I love that I can count on you for support! Water is going very well--the water bottle definitely helps; I drank over 80 oz yesterday and that's really good for me. I will be more exited about the 6s when they fit a little bit better, but I'm still glad I'm in them again. I'm wearing another pair today; I only own 2 pairs and I'm not buying anymore until these fit better. I've never been a 6; I bought these two pairs at the end of last summer and they fit then about how they do now, maybe a tad better. It seems like I skipped size 6 all together when I was in HS; I went from a 3/4 freshman year to a 7/8 junior, so I guess now is my turn to be a 6! :) I really want these to fit better, but I'm please with where I'm headed. I really want to get my summer clothes out and see how they're going to fit for the trip; I'm hoping this weekend I'll be low enough on the scale. I may get them out anyway just to compare; maybe I lost inches since the 6s are fitting better now. I have some size 4 shorts that I bought last summer--yes I said 4!--but, I actually consider them 6s b/c they have to run big. I bought 8s and they were huge, when I went back to the store I tried on the 6s and they were really loose so I ended up buying the 4s (they are the same brand as 80% of my bottoms, including the 6s). It's weird how things fluctuate even w/i that brand.

Oops! Sorry, I'm totally rambling. On with yesterday (Wednesday):

B: 1/2 cup egg beaters, banana, 1 slice light ww toast, 4oz oj

S: banana w/ 1tbs PB

L: ham sandwich on light ww, ff yogurt, brown rice

W: lower body (45min.), 1 mile run at 7mph (I did both of these at school; I stopped b/c I though DH and I were going to run or walk, but we didn't--if I was smart I would've hopped on the bike--oh well!)

S: wheat tortilla w/ 1 slice ff cheese

D: plain oatmeal, rf PB and sf preserves on a wheat bun (I've been looking for these for a long time--they have 3 grams of fiber and only 90 calories each--much better than regular buns)

I'm pleased with yesterday. I wish I would have done a little more cardio, but that's okay. I have to stick to my only 1tbs of pb a day (or none). We weren't planning on not cooking dinner, but we're swamped w/ grad work and school work right now so we really didn't want to take a break from writing our papers. I hope everyone has a wonderful day! :sunny:

hey denise! good job yesterday, especially with dinner, since it didn't work out as originally planned::yes::

and it's crazy the way clothes fit! i have a size 8 skirt from old navy that fits fine, but pants have to be a 10 or 12 from there! i guess i'm really at the point where 12s are too big, but still, it's a huge difference, and that's all within the same brand too! we gotta get these clothes makers together and get them to set a standard or something. just nuts to have to be all different sizes.

and where did you find the wheat buns? i'd love to check those out! i've been scouring my local grocery stores for low point bread items, but i haven't been coming up with much. i may have to venture further away from home :scratchin

hope you have a great day today :sunny:

Hi Denise! You are doing a great job - juggling work, grad school, exercise, diet..... Good for you!!:smooth:
And that is great that your in your size 6s, even if they don't fit as good as you'd like. You will definitely get there! And I agree, the sizes are enough to drive you crazy!
Well, keep up the good work. This week looks really good for you! I think your gonna be taking out those summer clothes this weekend! tell DH to get ready to move some boxes for you!;)
Have a wonderful day!:sunny:

good morning denise :sunny:

just checking in on you, i'll check back once you've posted today

Wow! I don't even know if I can remember yesterday this late in the evening! It has been such a busy day, but I got a ton done. Sharon and Marcia, thanks for stoppoing by :)

Marcia~The brand of the bread and the buns I buy is Healthy Life. You can learn about them here , but it doesn't look like they are available in your area (they do mail orders, but I'm sure the cost isn't worth it). It's weird, but they only have their bread on their site--the buns are not whole wheat, but they do have 3 grams of fiber each, only 1/2 gram of fat, and just 90 calories! The bread I buy is the light whole wheat--just 35 calories a slice and no fat (0.5 in 2 slices), and 3 grams of fiber (just 5 in 2 slices). Gook luck with your continued search.

Sharon~I don't think I'll be getting my summer wardrobe out this weekend. :( I have done a great job (I think), but I can tell that I have some extra weight (water) since my favorite week of the month is just a couple days away. ;) Grrr! I hope it all comes off after a few days.

Water question! Does it matter when you drink your water? I've been doing so well with water, but the last couple days I had 60oz. before lunch and only 24oz. after (I eat at 12:15). Today I had 60 before and 40 after. Also, is there such a thing as too much water in one day?

Hmmm, what did I eat on Thursday???

B: plain oatmeal, rf pb and sf preserves on a light wheat bun

S: 3/4 oz Special K (individual package), 1tbs rf pb

L: ham on light ww w/ ff cheese, ff yogurt, green beans

S: corn tortilla w/ canadian bacon and ff cheese

W: bike 20min, walk w/ DH 1.5 hours

D: ww spaghetti, salad w/ ff dressing, garlic bread

The day went well; DH and I had a great wall--it made us long for spring even more--just 4 weeks until Disney! :)

Have a great night everyone!

Wow Denise,
I wish I had time for 1.5 hr walk. Wish my hubby did too. Sounds like you were right on track today. Have a great weekend.

Good morning Denise!
Gosh, what a time for the bloat fairy to hit! After you've had such a great week! Certainly does seem very nice of her!!
I don't think it matters when you drink the water, as long as you do. Not sure about too much water, may be its just what your body is used to? I know I easily get 100 oz in most days, but I've always been a big water drinker.;)
Well I hope weigh-in can pleasantly surprise you. If not, just remember its that pesky Bloat Fairy talking, not you! We definitely need to ship her off to someone else's house. (Preferably not mine though!:upsidedow ) Don't get discouraged if the numbers aren't what they should be. If you have another week like this last one, next week's weigh-in will definitely payoff!!!:Pinkbounc
Enjoy your day today! I hope you have some of the :sunny: we are enjoying here on the east coast!
