Denise's Days (Comments Welcome!)

hmm, you say you don't know what to say about the day, but it looks pretty good to me. maybe you mean the pizza...but come on, ya gotta have pizza once in a while! and thin crust is the way to go, saves ya calories ::yes::

hope you had a great run! i'm about to head out for mine in a bit. i'll check back in with you later, have a wonderful day :sunny:

good morning denise! i see that you're making your way through journals at about the same time i am...so i'm going to come back to your journal once you've posted to it this morning :)

Yeah, Marcia, I noticed we were both on here now, too! It wasn't really just the pizza on Friday; it was the fact that DH didn't want any popcorn and I ate pretty much the whole bag! That's why I felt like I ate so much that day. Oh well!

This is my Saturday:

B: oatmeal, 2 reduced fat cinnamon rolls, orange juice

W: I did some of my upper body workout that I skipped on Friday, while I was waiting for a treadmill. I got through chest, shoulders, and triceps. Then I ran 3 miles in 25min, 25sec--not bad, and did a 5min. cooldown walk at 4.3mph. When we got home I did the 20min. Winsor Pilates tape. I felt really good after all of this.

L: 1 slice of leftover pizza, ff baked beans

D: ww spaghetti w/ parmesean (so sauce), healthy choice sausage, 1 slice of roasted garlic bread with spray butter

Overall, I think it was a pretty good day and my workout went really well. I had my weigh in yesterday and lost 1.8lbs this week! That takes me down to 140.2lbs. That's still not where I was when school started, but definitely closer and that makes me feel good about what I'm doing. I bought some reduced sugar orange juice and yogurt when we went grocery shopping Friday. I'm kind of excited about these because I've been trying to cut sugar for over 2 years now. I've always eaten too many sugary cereals and pop, but I've gotten much better.

hehe, yup :). i'm about to make it over to mine, right after yours!

and ah, i see now about friday. but popcorn's not all that bad for you. especially since you said it was ff. but oh well, it's over anyway. and you lost 1.8 pounds this week!!!! :bounce: big huge congrats, that is a great number for a week! i'm so excited for you, all your hard work is paying off ::yes::

and you just called soda "pop" and i cringed! haha, i know, i know, you're from indiana, so i guess that's normal out there. but here on the east coast... . i'm just busting your chops. all those little differences by region make me giggle. hehe.

but on a serious note...good for you for cutting out the sugars. i guess i don't do that consciously, but i tend to avoid sugary stuff if i can help it. only diet "pop" for me :p , and i've even been trying to go with diet rite, since it's made with splenda and it's caffeine free too.

ok, end ramble right here. have a great rest of your day :sunny:

Denise - I agree with Marsh - your Friday looked fine. You can't always eat "good" food, you're gonna still eat pizza and such occasionally. You just have to do exactly what you did - don't go overboard! Good job!!::yes::
1.8 lb loss?! YES!!! What's Dh sayin now??? Ha! :hyper:
Seriously, that is great! Good for you! Keep up the good work.::yes::
And I picked right up on that "pop" mention too.;) Isn't it funny how we speak the same language, but say such different things?!
Have a nice day off tomorrow!:sunny:

Thanks, Marcia and Sharon! I love reading what you guys have to say; it really helps keep me on track. DH still just laughs at me, but he truly means well. He was impressed by the 1.8 gone in one week, but he's still not certain about the 7.2 that leaves for 6 weeks! He's just a pessimist and doesn't want to believe good things, but loves when they happen. He is actually the one who got me eating healthy and watching what I eat and, believe it or not, is very supportive. ::yes::

K, here's the deal with POP! I was hesitant to type that knowing I was typing on a public forum! When I was in one of my linguistics courses in college I actually did a research paper on regional use of pop, soda, and Coke. It was very interesting how their use differs, not only around the U.S., but also here in IN (you get south on Indy and it's sodapop!). One time when I was in Texas I ordered a pop and the lady could not understand me; she thought I was order pie! (everything there is Coke--even if it's Dr. Pepper!) So, yes, in public I usually say soda (especially when eating out). It's still pop at home, though!

Here is my Sunday:

B: Coco Wheats, ww toast, light orange juice

W: I hopped on the *evil* stepper while I was waiting for a treadmill. I stayed on there for 10min. then ran 2 miles on the treadmill (17min) and walked a cooldown. At home, I did the 20min. Winsor Pilates tape.

L: 1 cup spaghetti O's, Peanut butter sandwich on WW bread

S: animal crackers

D: roasted turkey breast (DH and I actually roasted a turkey breast in the oven, it's the first time we've attempted this and it was so good!), peas, and ww bread w/ spray butter

It was a pretty good day and it's already pretty late in the morning and I haven't had breakfast today, so I'm off. Have a wonderful day, everyone! TTYL! :)

Hi Denise! Hope your day is going well! Isn't it nice to have some time just for you (even if it is to do chores, school work and paperwork:rolleyes: )
The roast turkey breast sounds yummy! I don't get to cook as much as I should or want with our schedule. But being off today, I sure could go for some veal cutlets! I just hope they have them at the store today!
Exercise looks great! Makes me laugh to see you too are doing the *evil* stepper. I definitely am going to carve out 30 min of my day today for that!::yes:: And I might go for a WATP tape too (depending how much time I have!)
Well enough about me in your journal! Keep up your great work and :sunny: outlook!

haha, denise, i was gonna say you and sharon should band together to conquer those *evil* steppers  . most definitely ::yes:: . i myself just prefer to stay as far away from those things as possible.

and i can't wait till you get rid of those 7.2 other pounds and dh will be shocked and amazed :bounce:

hope you had a great day off :sunny:

Thanks, ladies! :sunny: I hope you got that veal Sharon--yum. I obviously haven't been to your journal yet, but I'll make it there sometime today. I did enjoy my day off, but, off course, did not get as much done as I had hoped. I do hope I am able to say ha to DH as we leave for DW! ;) I always weigh myself before we leave and then again when we get back. I've actually always been successful in not gaining any weight during the week--I hope I can lose before then and still come back and say the same. :)

Monday:

B: oatmeal, ww toast, light orange juice

W: 1 hr. Winsor Pilates tape, 30min. bike, abs

L: deli chicken and ff cheese rolled in a homemade wheat tortilla (I've only made white flour ones before, but was very please with how well these turned out), banana w/ rf pb

D: basil burger on ww toast w/ ff miracle whip, green beans, angel hair pasa and herbs

S: dry apple jacks, pb on a wheat tortilla

Now I remember why I snack between meals normally. I ate a lot of apple jacks=a lot of sugar and still wasn't satisfied so went back for the second snack. I know it's just because I didn't eat much during the day. I was busy cleaning, doing laundry, and doing grad work--I guess I just wasn't very hungry. I tend to snack a lot when I'm home alone, so I think a big part of it was not wanting to start for fear I wouldn't be able to stop. The day definitely wasn't bad, but I don't like those snacks there at the end; they're better dispersed throughout the day. Oh well! Have a great day everyone! :sunny:

good morning denise!

that's good that you've recognized that you really do need to snack more often during the day. i know you were busy, so it wasn't so much of an option yesterday, but at least you know for the future ::yes::

home made tortillas...how would one go about doing that? are they better for you than the kind you buy in the store? i'm gonna assume they are, because homemade usually means healthier. hmm, i'm very interested.

hope you have a wonderful day today :sunny:

Hey Denise!:wave2:
Sounds like yesterday went fairly well for you. I know what you mean about snacking when your home alone. Maybe because you went for the sugary snack, that didn't fill you, thus the need for the protein snack? I have found that the protein and high fiber foods fill me up more and stay with me longer than the sweets and sugar. Of course, I shouldn't talk because I was little miss piggy with the peanuts yesterday...
I too would like to hear about these homemade tortillas. We don't have the wheat ones around here. I would love to be able to make my own. Details please!::yes::
And, no I didn't get my veal yesterday:( They didn't have any at the store when I went. I'll just have to keep my eyes open for that!

Grrr! Yesterday ended up being bad.

B: Coco Wheats, light ww toast, light oj

S: banana and pb

L: deli chicken on light ww, ff yogurt, wheat tortilla

I what you're thinking okay so far, but read on...

S: (this is where it all fell apart) I ended up selling tickets at the swim meet after staying at school for book club and since I didn't have a plan and didn't have anything to eat and I was very hungry, I ate a serving of nachos from the concession stand! And to top that off I had a full calorie Dr. Pepper--k, I confessed; I can't dwell on it now.

D: I should have just been done eating, but since those were empty calories, I was hungry when I got home. 1 cup spaghetti O's, wheat tortilla w/ pb, dry honey nut Cheerios

"Dinner", if that's what you can call that, did not help matters b/c I was just grazing and chose three different things to fill me up at three different times. To top the entire day off, I didn't workout b/c I was at school so late and still had some work to do when I got home! I'm not going to beat myself up b/c it's done, it's over, can't change it now. I can only learn from my mistakes.

Marcia and Sharon--I will post again this evening and give you the recipe for the tortillas--they are yummy. :) However, they are not whole wheat, just half the flour used is whole wheat flour. I'd like to find a ww recipe, but I haven't been able to. They are still healthier though and you don't use shortening like you do when making traditional flour tortillas. Have a great day! :sunny:

Okay Denise, you need to take a page from Marcia's book and become a planner.::yes:: Or, what I do, is make sure I have something that is okay with me when possible. I keep a box of honey nut cheerios in a desk drawer at work, I brought a few string cheese to keep in the fridge there and yesterday I bought 3 McDonalds fruit & yogurt parfaits cause I really like them, they are good for me and now I don't have to make a special trip. So I have no need to visit the EVM because I have other options.

As you said, yesterday is done and over. Learn from it and get past it. Now get back on track so that we have something to tease DH about when you are ready for vacation!:teeth: Marcia and I are counting on you making this goal so we can tell DH "told ya!"
Hope today is better for you! Heres some extra :sunny: :sunny: for you!

Sharon

hey denise, sorry about your yicky day yesterday. hrmph. so nachos and a dr pepper. well, they're over and done with now. nothing more than a little bump in the road. glad you're gonna learn from your mistakes though.

and i agree with sharon. it helps to have legal snacks around. i usually try to have a yogurt and baby carrots in the fridge here at work, along with packets of ff hot cocoa, and *individual* snack size bags of nuts (about 7 almonds per bag...i know it's tiny, but that's a whole point!), stuff like that. if you could keep some stuff that you like at work, in your desk or something, maybe that would help.

anyway, yesterday is over, and today is a brand new day :sunny: . i know that you can eat well today, and get some exercise in too ::yes:: . and as long as you post that recipe, it's a good day in my book  . haha, just kidding, just kidding :teeth: , i want you to stick to your plan, then it'll be a good day :hyper:

hope you have a wonderful day today denise :bounce:

You two ROCK! :smooth: I love the support I get from you guys. Eventhough I'm doing this for myself, sticking it to DH is definitely an incentive. He's so funny! Anyway, I don't really have time right now, but I wanted to hop on and give you guys that recipe. Enjoy!

Ingredients
1 1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 cup warm water (110 f)
2 tsp vegetable oil
1/4 tsp salt

Directions
These tortillas are lower in saturated fat, with no cholesterol and
higher in fiber than traditional tortillas prepared with lard and
white flour.

Cornstarch, for dusting the tortillas

Stir together the first 6 ingredients.

On a floured board knead until smooth.

Divide dough into 12 equal balls. Dust lightly with cornstarch.

Roll into a circle as thin as possible on a lightly-floured board.

Drop onto a very hot ungreased griddle. Cook until brown spots
appear on one side.

Turn and cook on second side.

Yield: 12 large tortillas

I just realized I never did dust them w/ cornstarch; I totally spaced it. Oh well, they taste good and that's what matters! I'm not sure I should make them too often though, b/c I've been eating one every day--my light ww bread is better for me. I hope you guys like these; they were really easy to make. I'll have time to talk and check in on everyone tomorrow--have a good night! :wave2:

sweet denise, thanks! and i just ran it through the ww recipe builder, and it comes to 2 points each. that's 1 pt less than the regular ones i get from the store...sounds good to me :). thanks for sharing the recipe. i'll have to try it out when i run out of the store bought ones. have a good evening, catch you in teh morning

Thank you so much for the recipe. I am going to make them with my children tomorrow. They love to cook and this looks like a really fun one to do. Rolling them out keeps them busy for a long time...LOL

I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow!

E.:sunny:

That sounds fun, E! I hope you guys enjoy. My tortillas were a bit smaller b/c I just started rolling the dough into balls and ended up with 13--hey knocked a few calories off of each one! :p As if I didn't already learn my lesson from those nachos Tues., I felt so awful thanks to them yesterday and still don't feel quite right today. I'm going to try and drink a surplus of water today to try and make my stomach feel normal again. I'll also get back on track with the cardio today.

Wednesday:

B: oatmeal, light ww toast, light oj

S: popcorn and peanuts :( (ate too much and that didn't help matters)

L: chicken sandwich on lww w/ ff cheese, banana, animal crackers

W: lower body and abs (I WILL get cardio in tonight) :)

D: rice, low fat ground beef, and kidney beans in an enchilada sauce, 1 wheat tortilla, diet mountain dew

I'm slowly getting back on track and slowly feeling less bloated, but man LESSON LEARNED! ::yes:: Have a great day, everyone! :sunny:

sorry those nachos are still sticking with you. i guess it's good to look at the positive though, like you are, knowing that you don't want this nasty post-nacho feeling again ::yes:: . glad you're getting right back on track, that's the best way to combat it.

that's too funny about the tortillas. i would've started all over if i came out with too many....just mushed em all back together and tried to get it right, i guess that's the perfectionist in me :p

hope you have a great day today, and enjoy that cardio! have a wonderful workout :hyper:
