We were fortunate enough to be able to use SPG Cash & Points for 5 nights of our most recent magical December Dolphin stay but for the remaining two had to use AP rates.

My husband works for a teaching hospital and has a college faculty appointment but when we called reservations and asked about the teacher rate we were told it didn't apply to college level. I let it go at that until I read a few posts from people who had received the teacher rate and were college faculty. What did you have to show and did they give you a hard time at all?

Thanks! Already planning our next trip......

Their reservation website says it's a "Government Employee" rate. I've reserved by just telling them I'm a government employee. I always carry my ID in case they ask.

As a nurse I had to show my license, or a pay stub, so not sure about teachers, but I would think, any sort of pay stub from school, or your degree with teaching certificate's etc... should be enough. Basically I handed them a copy of licence and they didn't read it just scanned over it very quickly and said ok. Good luck, MKY (thought I would answer, till you got a teacher to). :D

I heard that they were getting a bit stricter on who is actually qualified for the teacher's rate. At one point, I remember teacher's aides, Sunday school teachers and parent volunteers were trying to get the teacher's rate. I'm pretty sure that now it's only for licensed teachers and you have to show your license at check-in. :)

My husband is a high school teacher and they said we must bring his faculty id with him for check-in. You must be a certified teacher to qualify.

My mom is a college teacher and all she had to show was her school id. She took along a pay stub, but the id was all that they asked for. I find it odd that they would not give the rate to a college teacher now. Did you call back and try to book again with another person? It might be that the person you spoke to the first time isn't in the loop. You could also try speaking to a manager about it. If they are still calling it a teachers rate, then a college teacher should get it, right?

We were there 2 months ago. I showed my college faculty ID and a carbon copy of my most recent teaching contract. No problems making the ressie and no problem at check-in.

I'm a teacher's aide, I work full time on a hourly wage. I tutor 7th graders in social studies, science, math and english. I cover classes for the teachers. I make $15K per year, teachers make $30-80k per year. I think I deserve a discount just as much as they do. I have an id and a pay stub from the school district, if that is all that is needed I would take advantage of the discounted rate.

Who knows why they do what they do. I would call and check with another customer service rep and try again. :)

My DH teaches at a private college. He showed his ID (college name, his picture, and it
says faculty). We were able to get the teacher rate June 2002. Planning on
doing the same Memorial Day weekend 2003 (long weekend for us).
I'll call the Dolphin and ask. I just asked.
They said at resses to bring the ID and a pay check stub.
My DH will not show the amount he gets paid. They said I could blacken out his
pay amount. As long as the paycheck stub shows the college name and my DH's
name as payee we are fine.
I asked if the stub has to be currrent.
They said any stub this year, 2003, would do. I do not have to have the last stub given in May.
I will bother my DH for a stub next month and keep it in a safe place.
If I wait till I start my dinner PS and packing I'll forget.
My DH has his ID in his wallet at all times, so I know that will arrive safely.

So - if you can get a paycheck stub with a school/college logo/name on it
and your name on it as the payee...and you have some sort of ID,
you should qualify for the teacher discount.

Good luck to all. I know how it can be during grading final papers.
I loose my DH for a weekend while he reads some great work of art and
some students who shovel ...... ;)

IMHO, I think some CM's assume that college teachers get certified like secondary educators. But there is no formal certification. Some have PhDs, some have MA degrees, and others, like artists, musicians, etc., do not even necessarily need an advanced degree to teach at the college level. I think they are probably reading boilerplate on the computer screen that says "must be certified" but I'm sure once you get there and show a faculty i.d. there will be no problem. good luck!

If this is a change it must be within the last couple months. They were happy to give me a teachers rate as college faculty when I called last November. (As it turned out we didn't need the reservation and cancelled.) They did say I'd have to show faculty ID on arrival.

Did you call the Dolphin directly at (407) 934-4000? You may get better service there than on the toll-free number.
