Okay, I'm an obsessive planner and notorious lurker here. Until recently we've stayed at moderates, but in the last few years I've convinced dh to try WL, then CR through SOG (for $66 a night at the Contemporary he couldn't refuse). We've all gotten a taste for deluxe resorts, which is good and bad.

Now our Lucky 13th anniversary is coming next year and he's willing to spend $$$ for a couple days at a deluxe- with the kids of course (dd will be 10, ds will be 6)

We have it narrowed down to Poly (always wanted to stay there for some reason, but I don't know why) Beach Club, or Boardwalk.

I've heard some negative things about the Poly-- it's dirty, smells like mold(?), it's dark and dingy, etc. I haven't heard much about the other two besides they have great pools.

Any advice/comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Julie

The Poly has the largest rooms. We were in Hawaii and it was wonderful! There was no smell. I was also worried about dark and dingy, but they were bright and airey, and very comfortable.

The BC would be my second choice, altough I feel that some of the rooms there need a rehab. The pool can't be beat. I also love the decor, it's light and relaxing. The restaurant choices and location to Epcot and MGM are fabulous. Make sure to request a full balcony!!!

The BWI has what feels to me to be the smallest rooms, even though they are actually about the same size as the BC. Maybe it's the chintz, very busy patterns make the room FEEL smaller. The pool there is also great, and it's got a prime location as well.

Have you considered renting DVC points from somebody and getting a 1BR villa at a DVC property? The cost would be about teh same, and the extra room would be fabulous--a private bedroom with king bed for you and DH, the soaking jacuzzi tub, and the full kitchen--which will same you lots of $$ on breakfast and snacks.

We stayed at the BC and AKL on our last trip. So, as far as the BC goes, the location is prime! We walk right into Epcot and you are are short boat ride or walk to MGM. That is about all I liked about it. It seems to be getting a bit run down...the rooms were really musty smelling, the carpet NEEDS replacing and it just looks like it could use a refurb. (keep in mind we just had done 4 nights at AKL, which is practically brand new, so it may not be fair comparison.) The main pool area is nice, although very crowded...we opted for the quiet pool. The kids will love the big pool, though....tons of fun things, and there is sand in the bottom! It is really a toss up, the location is awesome, and it offers great accessablity to so much (the boardwalk is a beautiful stroll away). But it was just not really meeting up to my expectations as far as the "details" go (we also had some trouble getting our room when they said it would be ready, then they put us in a smoking room when we specifically said anything but smoking..I forgot about that)....it is still a beautiful resort, that could use a touch up!

I'd go for either the BC or YC. All of the rooms have now been renovated and with Kids its hard to beat Stormalong Bay. We were at the YC last week of Feb and everything looked and felt so new. The location is just perfect and bus service to AK or MK is great.

I've stayed at neither, but I know what you mean about always wanting to stay at the Poly.

Based on that alone, I'd choose the Poly!!!

If you are thinking about BC or BWI then choose between them and book the Yacht Club.

WE were sworn Poly people until we stayed at the BC...now...for serveral reasons it is our favorite!!

LOVE THE THEME OF THE RESORT!
LOVE THE POOL!!
LOVE THE WALK TO EPCOT!!
LOVE THE WALK TO THE BOARDWALK ENTERTAINMENT!!

we just love it!

We find the BC to be much more kid friendly than the YC.

If you are considering the Boardwalk, why not try the Dolphin. It is a great resort. We love it and always stay there. We have tried CBR, SOG, The Poly, and the Contemporary. Can't beat the location at the Boardwalk. The kids love it.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. We have a lot of time to make the decision and obsess over it. This fall we're trying out a short cruise, so if we like that, there's another way to spend our money at Disney.

Thanks again,
Julie
