For our 10th anniversary, we left the kids(DD6, DD4, and DS2) with grandma and went to the world for a week. We've only managed to pull off a 3 day weekend alone just once in the past 6 years alone and maybe one night a year other than that, so it was a nice chance to get away. We previously took them 18 months ago when they were 4, 3, and 8 months, so we wanted to experience some things we didn't get to with all of the kids.

We stayed at AKL-Kidani Village which was very nice. I don't know that we'd return there other than to visit because it was just much more out of the way for our favorite parks, which was Hollywood Studios and Epcot. The staff was A+.

I've read from other posters in the plan about the deluxe plan being too much food and I have to agree. For starters, our weather was 8 consecutive days over 90 degrees, so that doesn't help build up a big appetite in itself. I burned through snack credits bringing stuff home and I probably "wasted" 6-7 on drinks at the parks because we were gone in the mornings before the gift shop opened for us to be able to fill up our mugs in the mornings. We wanted to celebrate and eat in style and I figured the deluxe plan would give us many more signature restaurant options than any other visit would give us. It was often a good laugh to sit and watch the interaction between mom/dad and the kids at other tables laughing at their frustrations while they were at the "happiest place on earth". ;)

By the way, this thread is without pictures. I wasn't going to get the "glare" for telling my wife to wait until after I took a picture to dig in.

WCC(dinner)-I had the skillet and my wife ordered meatloaf along with the wings. I thought the skillet was good. Meatloaf came out late and my wife ate off of my skillet. They took off my wife's TS and we were too full for any dessert. The shakes were nothing exciting. We were seated in the "library" away from all of the commotion with the "Medicine Man", who was quite cheesy, but oh well.

Boma(breakfast)-Very good. I really liked the curried sausage/biscuit skillet and the bobotie was a little "strange", but still good. The eggs with chives/goat cheese were very good. Not much left to be said about sausage links, waffles, bacon, eggs, and omelettes.

50's PTC(lunch)-Good. After a huge breakfast, I wasn't terribly hungry. I had the fish sandwich, shrimp cocktail, and a PB&J shake that was great. Fish was ok. My wife had the fried chicken, crab cake, and chickened out on the shake and opted for a cherry coke. The chicken was really good and the crab cake was the run of the mill canned crab meat variety, but what do you expect for a dinner like this? For dessert, we were too full to eat there, so we got the brownie to go(obviously, no ice cream). It was pretty "fudgey" and thick and we managed to eat no more than 4-5 bites out of it, even though we put them in the refrigerator. The shake was HUGE and I will certainly return for another on our next trip. Our server was Jason and he's highly recommended. You better eat your vegetables or you'll be standing up singing "I'm a Little Teapot" for everyone else to see.

Flying Fish(dinner)-Very good. Both of us got the NY Strip, which was very good. I got the yellowfin tuna tartar, which was good. I tried to be a little more adventurous with some of my appetizer selections for the trip. My wife had the crab cake, which was perhaps the best I'd ever had. My wife got the key lime pie and I got the cream brulee and both were ok.

The rest of the week will follow later...

Great reviews! Boma is our fave breakfast in all of WDW and I cannot wait to eat there again next month!

We are going back to FF in Oct, may have to get that crab cake, sounds great!

Signing on! FF is one of my favorite places, that crabcake rocks and their steak is the best IMO in all of WDW!

We both loved Boma breakfast....I will be attempting to replicate the curried sausage/biscuit skillet for sure. I'll go back to Boma for that very reason in the future.

Liberty Tree Tavern(lunch)-My wife was in the mood for a burger, so she opted for the angus bacon cheeseburger/fries and I had the fish(fried cod). The fish would have been much better had it not had so much breading on it. I should have taken note walking by another table on my way in as they had taken most of the breading off of the fish. My wife had a salad and I had a crabcake, which seemed on par for the canned crab meat variety. For dessert, I can't even remember what we had as we were generally quite full by the time dessert rolled around and I didn't find any of the desserts we had the entire trip to be out of this world by any means.

Citricos(dinner)-VERY DISAPPOINTING.

For starters, we arrived 10 minutes early and were seated 10 minutes past our reservation time. We watched 4-5 other tables come in and get seated after we had arrived. I should have known this would be a sign of things to come, although they did get something right with the personalized menu for our anniversary.

For our apps, we had the seared tuna carpaccio and the risotto. Both were ok. For dinner, I had the veal shank and my wife had the filet(the ribeye on the allears menu was nowhere to be found). I thought the veal shank was good. My wife's filet was ordered medium rare and came out much closer to the lower side of rare so she sent it back. A little while later, another filet came out, this one even closer to raw than the first. I saw the table next to us send their steaks back for being undercooked as well.

They offered to take off her 2 TS, which was nice, but I countered with taking off the corkage fee and charging us 1 TS because it was going to be hard for us to make up the additional TS meals. We got dessert to go(tiramisu for both of us), which was ok.

I was very upset that the 8:20pm reservation time didn't yield us enough time to go watch Wishes from the shore of the GF. We made it for the final minute or two. I thought it was completely unacceptable and the waiter didn't even attempt get my proposal ok'd by the manager. They'll be getting a letter from me this week to let them know what I thought of our experience.

The rest of the week will follow...

Sorry about Citrico's...that kind of ruins anniversary plans. I will definitely be waiting on the rest of the reviews.

Boma(breakfast)-Once again, very good. Loved the curried sausage with biscuit skillet and the eggs w/ green onions and goat cheese. I just HAVE to make something like this.

Yak and Yeti(lunch)-I thought this meal was good. Not bad, but nothing great either. We had the egg rolls and steamed mussels for an appetizer and they were ok. I had the crispy Mahi Mahi, which was served with a sauce that packed a little heat. It wasn't hot by any means, but I think some people may not care for it, but overall, I thought it was ok. My wife had the skirt steak/shrimp which she really liked, but I didn't care for the bite of steak too much. It seemed like it had been marinated in a terrayaki sauce of some sort. For dessert, we had the brownie sundae for 2. It wasn't overwhelming because neither the brownie nor ice cream was good. (The overwhelming theme to most of our desserts is that everything was scaled down in quality to save money. You can always tell the difference between a high quality vanilla ice cream vs. a "store" brand, and this was the case in virtually all locations).

Boma(dinner)-One of my favorite meals on the entire trip. I really liked the strip steak loin(the prime rib replacement) and thought the roasted pork shoulder (these were chunks, kinda like pulled pork at the carving station) was really good. I really liked the roasted chicken as well. Tried some more of the bobotie, which is ok in my book. I don't really care for the sweet taste that it has with it. I tried the she-crab soup and lamb stew, both of which were good. I tried the BBQ salmon, which just isn't a good pairing for me(bbq sauce and salmon anyway). Tried many of the desserts, which I seemed to enjoy the pineapple upside down cheesecake the most. I didn't fall for the hype over the zebra domes.

More to follow...

I know you haven't written your review of YS yet but I was hopping you might be able to help me out since you ate there and Boma.

We will be going during FD in Sept, but will also be celebrating my birthday. We do not have PH tickets so for ADR's are pretty much limited to the park we are at that day, the resorts and DTD. As of right now (park hours still not released) I'm looking at being at AK on the day of my birthday. Plan to have Tusker House for breakfast but would like to have dinner somewhere also that evening. Currently I have YS at the YC resort planned but it is 2 TS credits which will require us to pay for 1 of our TS meals (Kona breakfast). We are kind of picky eaters, not really interested in fancy or speciality foods. Do you think we should consider Boma over YS? All that meat you mentioned at Boma sounds really good:love:

We are more meat/potatoes kind of people and less on veggies, sushi, and things like that.

TIA

You said it so well! I agree: ice cream not the greatest around WDW. I found this disappointing as a premium or homemade vanilla ice cream is one of my favorite treats. Many desserts I had last year didn't overly impress me.

One thing I wondered after leaving: Does the wait staff suggest the dessert that brings Disney the biggest profit? Almost without fail, the "suggested selection" seemed particularly scaled down. (Jiko excluded.)

Boma: Yes. The Zebra Domes tasted very waxy and pre-fabricated to me, but I know that MANY PEOPLE absolutely adore these, so I have to plead guilty to being just too picky. I'm into real ingredients: the best chocolate, real cream, etc., and these were not that. The cheesecake was indeed decent, and I would have it again.
