Deluxe AP blocked July 17

I think this is ridiculous. AP members are the ones who generally will appreciate this day more. I'm a little upset they blocked this day when Thursdays aren't normally blocked.

It's not really that strange. It's the official 60th anniversary of opening. I can see why they didn't block it on the 51st, 52nd, 53rd etc. but this is a decade opening date. For the 50th, people were lining up in the afternoon the DAY BEFORE to get in. It's going to be PACKED.

And the 17th is on a friday this year.

It's actually a Friday which also wouldn't usually be blocked. I think this is just another Disney effort at crowd management. Interestingly, it appears that deluxe APs are not blocked for Thanksgiving this year, so I guess that's the trade-off. July 17 is blocked since it's a big anniversary year; Thanksgiving, which has been blocked every year for as long as I've paid attention, is not.

They block APs for crowd control.

If an AP holder really wants to be there, they can upgrade or buy a one-day ticket, I suppose.

This is why I get the premium...never have to worry about block out dates. They change every year depending on events

I kind of think it's rude to say that APs would appreciate this day more, honestly. You can always buy a one day ticket if it's that important to you. As others have said, the block out days are generally for when they think it will be busiest, which obviously would include the 60th anniversary day.

I have mixed feelings about this. While I agree with blocking July 17 in general, I also think they should offer a reduced one-day ticket price for blocked AP holders. I'm a Premier AP holder, so this doesn't really matter to me. But I do think Deluxe and lower should have the opportunity to visit the park if they want, at a price less than full admission.

I understand why they did this, but I would love to be able to go one day. I may have to just upgrade to premium for one single year...but I'll wait for a bigger anniversary like the 75th for that. A discounted ticket would be awesome, but didn't they used to offer those on blockout dates?
