We aren't going to Disneyland until September 2013, but we are thinking of getting 1 AP (and 2 DL Vacation Passes, available for Australians). Is it too early to purchase the AP now? Ie, is there an expiry date where they must be used before the end of this year? I thought if I could buy it now, I might save some money before prices rise in the new year (which I am guessing will happen).

I think it would be worth it as it is only $135 more than the Vacation Pass, and will mean we get 10% off the Paradise Pier hotel and character meals (which I just booked - yay!), as well of course as discounts on dining and stores at DL Resort. Sounds good to me! Surely I'd get over $135 value with all the AP discounts?!

When you purchase an AP online, it does not become effective until you activate it at the parks. Just make sure your trip falls before the AP's "activate by" date. So if you buy the AP now, you will have 1 year to use it will begin when you activate it in September 2013. Hope that helps.
As far as discounts go, it may add up for dining. The merchandise discounts expire on 12/31/12, and there has been no information as of yet if they will extend it.

When you purchase the pass you will see a note that it must be activated by: date

Make sure it says December 2013 and not December 2012.

I went online to check where they had the date. I purchased my AP in May before the price increase and it had to be activated by 12/31/12. A chatbox came up from the AP concierge asking if I needed help. I inquired about what the activate by date would be if I purchased an AP today. She told me that it needs to be activated within a year after purchase. This will be printed on the voucher as well.

Thanks Mary Jo! I have gone right through, entering all my details, but now I am up to the credit card details, and once I enter these, my order is placed - but nowhere has anything been written about an activation date? Am I missing something?

Oh, I tried to do that live chat function today, but it didn't work for me (maybe because I am on an ipad?). Anyway, that sounds promising, and should mean that I can buy it now!

Is there any way you can get on a PC and try and do the chat to double check?
The CM's have been known to provide incorrect info from time to time.

Thanks, I have tried to do the chat on a PC a couple of times since you posted, but the chat function doesn't come up at all - maybe it is only available during US business hours? I need to try during our morning, I think.
