Delta Song experiences?

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anybody had any experiences flying on Delta Song?? Good or bad. I found the best rates I've seen so far for the dates I'm going, on their website, and like the idea that I can choose my seats as well, so I'm just wondering what I should expect. Do they offer any snacks or drinks? Or should I bring our own? Is there any type of entertainment, ie: headphones for music? How is the legroom? How was the staff, did they seem friendly and helpful? I realize this is the lower level company, and I'm not expecting a lot, but I do want to be prepared as much as possible since I am flying with my DH and our 2 boys, (who will be 10 and 7 at that time.) Oh, do they have online check-in? That would be wonderful if they did. LOL! We'd just have to give them our luggage and that's that.

I'm posting this on a few boards so I can get the most experiences possible. LOL!

Thanks for any replies I get to this.

Song actually has a very easy to use Website at:
www.flysong.com
Song has tasty snacks (it'll cost you tho), free non-alcoholic beverages, a good martini bar, free seatback entertainment units with DirectTV, several channels of decent music, a music trivia game and flight status map so you can follow along (cool!) Oh yeah, and they have flight attendants with a fun attitude. At worst, our trips have been uneventful; at best they have been a hoot. I have two itineraries booked on Song in the next few months and will likely go with them next October too.

Check out the website (where you can also buy your tix) and see everything they have for you. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thank you SOO much for the info Pumpkinboy! I did originally look for flights on their website, but I never really tried exploring it or anything. I didn't realize there was all that info there. LOL! Guess I should have thought of the obvious, huh? Anyway, I went back to their website and read just about everything there, it sounds like a really cool airline to fly. Now I'm starting to think that even if a better fare DOES come out, that I'll want to pay the extra for this kind of experience. :earboy2: Thanks again for your review.

Just returned from our 3rd trip with Delta Song. They offer a great service and the headrest tv's make the flight go by fast. You can listen to an assortment of music stations, they have a music trivia game that you play with the other passengers, you can track your flight while in the air and a good mix of tv stations. The food offerings were around $4 to $5. We had the fruit & cheese plate along with the kids snack pack. The one thing I would recommend is bringing your own headphones. There's are the type that go inside your ear and maybe it's just me, but I always have problems with them. By the 2nd hour, they really started to bother me.

Thanks Tammi and everyone else. So far, I haven't gotten ONE bad review of Song. I'm not done reading all the boards yet, but so far the consensus is that people are extremely happy with Song. :cool1:

I was thinking that my boys (ages 10 and 7 at the time of our trip), would really enjoy the tv and the music. Then I got to thinking that my oldest LOVES to have a map when we are driving anywhere and track our progress on the map by looking at the signs on the highway and stuff.....so he would probably LOVE tracking the flight!

Now I really can't WAIT to book the flight! I have to wait a few days, then I can book it. Thanks again everyone. Looking forward to more comments.

Patricia,
How did you get coupons for the airline tickets? I mean, the price I got from Hartford, CT (BDL) to Orlando (MCO) was great, it came to $133 per person, but if I can use a coupon to lower that price, it would be WONDERFUL!! :cool1: lol!

Song and Continental are the only airlines who fly direct from our (newark) airport to Orlando. We have flown both. Prices are about the same for both. Continental offers "free" food and drinks; Song offers free drinks, but you have to pay for food. Entertainment on Song is definitely better -- and it's free -- you've got about 20 channels to chose from (A&E, MSNBC, NBC, TCM, HGTV, Food, Cartoon, Espn, E!) as well as a variety of music and the trivia game (my DH kicked serious butt with this). All of this made the time go faster in my book.

Song & Continental both have similiar flight times from Newark. They fly out early morning (which we like) and late afternoon (around 5). Both have lousy records for on time flights in the afternoon (not necessarily their fault -- Newark is always backed up).

Back in July we flew Continental. Our return flight was delayed. There was no one at the gate area when we arrived. And when there was a woman there she didn't know very much (and there was one guy there who I will call "Angry man" who looked like he was going to kill her; I thought she was going to have to call security). We really didn't know when we were going to go and get home.

In October we flew Song. Our flight was delayed. There was a woman at the gate when we arrived (probably because a flight had just landed). Every 15 minutes she made an announcement that the flight was delayed due to high winds at Newark. She also gave the estimated time of departure and told everyone to stay in the area, if they got an early go ahead, we would go. When we boarded, the pilot informed us we were going to be further delayed, but that they would do the safety spiel so that they could turn on the tvs and keep us entertained. He also said that they would TRY to get us out as early as possible -- and they did.

Now both airlines had delays, but which one do you think handled it better?

Now you know why I like to fly Song.

We've flown Song 3 round trips from BOS to MCO, and never had a bad flight.

Flight attendants were all good, flights on time, entertainment was great.

They went above and beyond on our last return flight in Sept; when we were on the Disney cruise, and ended up changing flights twice, and airports once, we had to change to Ft. Lauderdale, since the ship couldn't get into Port Canaveral, and Song accomidated everybody who called them to get out of Ft. Lauderdale; most people had to hop a bus from Ft. Lauderdale back to MCO, and then hope they could get a flight after the hurricane cancelled 2-3 days of flights there.

We fly delta song always to the world. I have yet to have a bad expierence. They have individual screens for eash seat. You can watch reg TV play a trivia game or the movie. The only thing I recommend is to bring your own headset. The one's that they give out are very difficult to stay in ears. We found cheap headsets at the dollar store. i have little ones so this is a god send. Last trip they never even took out the toys I packed to pass the time.

I love Song also; I fly BDL to MCO and take the earliest flight they have (I think it is 6:45? or 7am) and get to Orlando around 9:30am. Never had problems with delays, etc. Song is more bare bones than regular Delta, but higher quality than JetBlue. Regarding the headphones, I went to Target and bought noise cancelling headphones for $40 and they are great. They plug right in to the jack on the plane and they don't hurt your ears. I bought my son a pair also (age 11) and he loves them.

I am not one to "enjoy" flying, kinda creeps me out after 911, BUT I just flew Song in Oct for 99.00 RT, NS to Fl ! and like everyone said, great flight! I second the [quoteThe one thing I would recommend is bringing your own headphones. There's are the type that go inside your ear and maybe it's just me, but I always have problems with them. By the 2nd hour, they really started to bother me.[/quote] they hurt after a bit! I had a blast doing trivia against my DD ! It was election time, and we put in names for ourselves like "gobush" "yabush" and other passengers put in "nobush" and it was fun !
My DD won a prize, a game... it was cool for them to make her feel special as being one of the only kids on that day. Also the TV was great to have to pass time. I wont fly anything else now. Going this month again...Song!

I say go for it !

1 week from now, I will be in the WORLD !!! YAY !!!!!

Ms Belle we are flying the same route(BDL-MCO). We are probably seeing each other and don't even know it. What time of year do you go to the world. I know these boards are very popular but you still get alittle tickled when it's someone close by.

Song is Awesome. Good service, assigned seat! (I hate SWA), decent drinks and as everybody said..free entertainment.

Wow...alot of people here from Connecticut!! Has anyone gotten anything better than $230-$235 per person in May? (BDL to MCO, roundtrip). So far, thats the best I have seen on Delta Song. (My dates are the 8-15th) Thanks, Donna

Donna,
I think your getting a higher price because you are flying on a sunday. If you flew on a Tues-Thurs, you would only pay $79 one way, which would be $158/per person. Just a thought. If you can change your days (which I know isn't always possible), you might be able to get a less expensive fare. HTH.

Editing to say: I just searched for flights at flysong.com and for your dates, I'm coming back with a fare of $212 R/T. That's $79.00 flying out and $133.00 flying back home. (Maybe you should just STAY at WDW! :earboy2: ) That doesn't include all the taxes and fees they add, but that's the base price I'm getting.

Mousekemom...I have been checking on www.delta.com I will check out the flysong.com right now. I bet your right...I never even thought about Sunday being the reason im getting such high prices!! Unfortunately those are the only dates we can fly in and out though...Thank you so much for your reply :D I will let you know what I end up with...

Donna,
How did you do on your search?? I totally understand about not being able to change days, for a long time my husband was self-employed, and it made it VERY hard to plan vacation time since he didn't get paid for weeks he didn't work, so we had to time it JUST right! LOL!

We actually couldn't find anything good for BDL so we are leaving from LGA $135 round trip. Both airports are about the same distance for us so really easy choice to make. May 7-14.

Mousekemom; I just booked 2 roundtrip fares on Song this AM for $176.70 online
(5/1 - 5/6) Sunday - Friday. After I had booked them, I went in to check the price and it was back to $230 and change. Here's what happened and here is what I would suggest. Yesterday (Sunday 12/26) when I did the same search, there was only one seat available at the $176 price. When I tried to reserve two seats, the $230 price came up. I believe that Delta allocates a limited number of those priced seats each day. If booking online, try early and start with 1 reservation and work your way up until you see the price change. Meaning, if there are 4 of you flying don't put 4 in right away because it will lock you into the higher price! Try 1, then 2 etc. If the price changes after 2 (as an example), then make the reservation for 2 and try again the next day, etc. for the other passengers. It sounds like a lot of work but it really isn't and the delta.com site is easy to navigate. The key is trying early each day!! Any questions let me know, and good luck! :bored:
