Delta--seats are gone

Is this anything to worry about? On a whim I went and checked my flights for October. I know how Delta is about changing flight times. Well, I wasn't surprised to see that one flight had a time change of 15 minutes. No biggie. However the next flight shows that I need to pick my seats (which I had already done) and when I click on the seat map it is unavailable.

Any idea what could be going on?:confused3 Should I just wait a while and check again tonight? Should I call?

Any chance that with that 15 minute time change I could get on an earlier connecting flight?

Edited to add: I just noticed that the flight number for one of my flights no longer exists. The flight times are still there, but the flight number has changed. But it hasn't changed on my itinerary, and that is the flight that I have lost my seat assignments for. Any thoughts?

When the flight number was changed you were essentially rebooked onto a new flight. On top of that they may have changed out the aircraft with a different seat setup. Depending on the airline, your old seat on the new flight may be a special seat (exit row, handicapped reserved, premium seat, etc) on the new flight. I would call reservations and have them pre-reserve the seats again.

Also, if you booked on a site like Expedia/cheapo air etc., then those seats requests are only requests. They are not guaranteed. You would have to go to the actual airlines website to make sure you had pre-reserved seats. Don't think this is the case for you, but in case someone else reads this, just FYI.

Hope that helps.

Could've switched to a different flight and plane - That would explain why your seat reservations aren't available because the seating arrangements are different.

Could also just be a data glitch - I'd wait a day or two (if you haven't already) or at least til Tuesday (to get past the weekend) and see if it self-corrects. If it doesn't or if you're concerned I'd call Delta directly and ask.

Delta tends to make schedule changes on weekends. I would check again tomorrow or Monday. They don't automatically update itineraries. One time I had a connecting flight that left at the same time as the first landed after a schedule change. I had to call to get it changed, they did not automatically do it. I used it to my advantage - I ended up with more expensive flights miles wise at the times I really wanted for no additional miles.

A lot of the time, when Delta changes a flight, your seat assignments are lost and you need to telephone in and reselect seats. When you simply reselect seats, this also accepts the flight change.

For flights made somewhat in advance, check back often to see if you need to reselect seats so you can do it quickly before all the good seats are taken again.

I constantly check my seat assignments because airlines make changes all the time and sometimes with no notice to you. I have had 2 different go-rounds with customer service at Delta because they changed our seats and seated my children who are 5 and under away from us. And it happened twice for the same flights. I insisted that they seat us all together because my son frequently gets up to use the bathroom and my daughter is not a good traveler. They were both seated in places they shouldn't have been (exit rows or in front or behind exit rows - which you can't do with a carseat) It would cause more aggravation for strangers seated with us and it's just better not to go there.

Ok, I checked today. And it seems that the only thing that has changed is the flight number. The seat assignments are the same, so all is good. Whew!

This thread made me check our jetblue flights. All is good!

Glad to hear it! I know to check my flights for changes, but I really didn't expect anything 4 months out. Guess I will have to start looking every other week from now on.

just a friendly fyi.....unless you purchase seats your seat choices are not actually guaranteed by the majority of airlines.(theres usually some disclaimer to this effect on the website) You are purchasing a ticket for transportation from point a to point b, your seat choice is something that the airline tries to honor but sometimes that isn't possible with aircraft changes etc

I just received an email yesterday that my flight in Oct. with Delta was changed for an hour later and all of our seats have changed. They did give us seat numbers all together. Hopefully that stays the same. Guess I will have to keep a closer eye on it.

Last August we flew Delta and booked about 4 months in advance. The type of aircraft changed, so our seats were moved. Thankfully I was keeping an eye on it. Now, I check our flights about once a week if we fly delta- and once every few days for southwest & jet blue for credits.

I was able to repick our seats on the delta flight due to my accidental discovery, and was glad I did as they had moved my kids to less desirable seating arrangement.
