Does anyone know how much delta charges to reserve seats together on flights? I am planning a trip to Disney World and found cheap airfare but want to figure out how many extra fees there are going to be before I book it in.
Thanks

You just have to find seats together. There's no charge for picking your seats on Delta. But then watch those seats! Check frequently and often and don't be afraid to make a fuss if necessary. That's my only gripe on Delta. They will swap out my seat without asking and without telling me until I'm boarding. And while I try, desperately, to think that the person whom they switched me for must have some very good reason for needing to sit with someone etc. . .it usually just looks like the person in my old seat was a squeaky wheel that got some grease, and I was told as I was boarding the plane to decrease the odds that I would say anything about it.

That's why I am still flying United instead of Delta, even though, compared with the old Continental, they're not the greatest.

ETA: On Continental, I was asked several times to swap seats with a parent who had kids or a child flying alone and that was fine by me and always will be. A couple of adults who just want to sit together and don't want to sit in the back. . .uhm. NO!

ETA: Sorry for going off on a tangent. No charge, but watch your seats like a hawk and if Delta tries to split you up, make sure they know they're splitting up a family. You'll be fine.

Also, I have found that if I call and say "hey, I couldn't get seats together for my family, what can you do for me, b/c I don't think other passengers want to deal with my 11 yo and my 13 yo who are not near me or each other on this flight." Someone will usually fix the seats. Sometimes it takes several calls to get the most sympathetic ear, but it can be done.

A Delta cust svc rep told me that they usually reserve the last two rows of economy for situations like this and it just takes some persistance to get the seating fixed. I'm ok with sitting together in the back of the plane and being last off. It's better than everyone being bothered by my kids running back and forth.

I'm sorry, but if by checking the seat map you know you cannot get seats together, then you shouldn't be booking that flight. It is possible that you will not be able to be switched around and seated all together. And at ages 11 and 13 there is no excuse for kids to be running all over the aircraft.

If you do pick seats that are together and they are moved around, that is another thing. But it still would be no excuse for kids who are almost teenagers to misbehave on a flight.

Not true! Airlines often hold back seats until the day of the flight or for assignment at the gate. The online seat map doesn't always reflect actual seat availability. Call the airline for help before your flight.

And on the average Orlando flight - almost EVERYONE has kids - most of them a lot younger than 11 and 13. And all the families will NOT be together. If you want seats together on Delta for an Orlando flight - book early. And don't count on someone taking pity on you and letting you switch seats either since its very likely that their family is already split up and the seat behind their six year old is as close as they could get.

I've had my seat changed on Delta at least 3 times when I was boarding. I was by myself on business trips and probably was an easy target. At least they were an aisle for an aisle but farther back.

Delta doesn't charge for seats unless you want one of the Economy Comfort seats with more leg room.

We once booked our tickets separate, DH used his CC for his ticket and I bought mine for DS and myself. I needed a few more credit card miles.

We picked our seats 3 in row together but Delta changed the seats all around. We didn't know until we got ready to board. A nice lady offered to switch with me and I gave her a drink for being kind.

Make sure you book the seats together and let Delta know afterwards that you are a family flying together.

I didn't say they'd misbehave, I said they'd be going back and forth all flight, trading ds games and asking for snacks. My boys have been flying since they were quite young and know how to behave on a plane. I find that it's their seat companions who are more bothered by having unattended kids next to them. Once on a flight from the US to Amsterdam, the nice man who helped me put my hand luggage in the overhead bin commented how he felt sorry for me traveling alone with a 6 and 8 yo. They were the best behaved kids on that flight!

So it is okay for you to potentially split up another family?

You said they would bother other people on the aircraft. Continually bothering other people is misbehaving, imho.

I wouldn't bother the airline. I would have the kids pack their own personal bags and expect them to stay in their seat for the flight duration unless they needed to go to the bathroom.

I have flown with my kids and everyone has always had their own personal bag with their entertainment with them.

We are flying next month and my teen (13) has opted to not sit next to me. She has dreams of flying unaccompanied, so that was the best I could do since the trip is for me. She will prepare for her flight and it don't expect her to bug me for a snack or a game.

Perhaps that could be an option for you.

We like Jet Blue and Southwest. No seating issues. Even on SWA.

Perhaps she means that someone would be bothered when her kids get up.

If I have a window seat and need to use the rest room, it may bother the person I the middle and aisle seats. But I am not misbehaving.

It could be they do it excessively. If an adult did that, it would be rude, not necessarily misbehaving. It seems that passengers need to pack their carrying accordingly should they be split up so that they would not feel the need to get up repeatedly.

Good points.

I've flown 250k miles on Delta since 2009 and they have never just changed my seat, unless it was a cabin upgrade or the equipment was swapped out.

I've had my seats booked on DL but flown on Air France disappear multiple times, but that's another issue.

I recently flew with Delta and booked late, and was only able to get 2 of the 3 seats together for my flight (I was flying with DD, 10, a very experienced flyer who looks as if she is 13, and DS, 1 (I had purchased a seat for him). On one flight on the way to our destination none of our seats were together, and so I asked at the counter to see if they could get DS & I together and they not only did that, but moved DD too to the Economy Plus seats for no charge. DD is an experienced flyer and it was a shorter flight, so I was not concerned if she sat apart from us. On the way back, DD was to sit directly in front of DS & I and without asking the flight crew moved us all to Economy Plus again. I say try and book your seats together online and if you cannot sit together ask at the counter and see if they can accommodate a request.

I skimmed through this thread....so if I missed someone giving this answer, forgive me.

BUT DELTA DOES CHARGE FOR SEATS -- DEPENDING ON YOUR FARE

See this story...

. . . BUT DELTA DOES CHARGE FOR SEATS -- DEPENDING ON YOUR FARE. . .

1) I have over 3.6million miles with Delta
. . . 3.3million with Northwest
. . . 300k+ with Delta since the NW/DL merger
2) They have always had assigned seats, unless you booked a full flight.
. . . with "full flights", the computer will not allow a seat assignment
. . . a "full flight" designation usually occurs with less than 5% of seats open
3) There is no extra charge for a seat assignment, unlike bargain airlines.
4) They lately started a cheapie fare to compete with bargain airlines.
. . . must be advance reservation
. . . seat assignments are made at the airport upon check-in
. . . you CANNOT pick an advance seat assignment, even for a fee

NOTE: Northwest nor Delta have ever changed my seat. I have been asked by
stewardesses if I would move, but the assignment wasn't changed prior to
boarding.
