Delta seat reservations

Despite how often our seats have been changed in recent months, I find that most travelers are very nice and accommodating if you get separated from your kids -- I always say that no one wants to sit with my 3 year old except me.

:)

As said, do seat changes happen? Yes.

Do they happen often? No.

Are they very rare? Yes.

Should I worry about it? No. :goodvibes

There are more important things to worry about (like is that plus-size person actually getting the middle seat next to me in my window seat...)

Honestly... part of the reason I want to reserve my seat is because I am a fairly plus-sized person. If my DH and I were in a row together with another fairly large adult, it would be quite uncomfortable for everyone. We tend to travel with my parents... and we usually reserve 2 rows of 3 in a row. That way, me and DH are in 1 row with a child between us, and my parents are in a row with a child between them. On the airline we fly to Orlando, you pay for your seat assignment. I like that, because if they ever tried to change it, I would feel like I have the right to complain since I paid for the right to choose it.

We're flying Delta to Hawaii this summer, and this makes me nervous! A 6+ hour flight isn't really my cup of tea anyway... but the idea of being "cheek to cheek" with a stranger for that 6 hours makes it even less appealing.

Hey Lones----be sure you've reserved Delta "economy comfort" seats if you're not flying first class. The few inches of extra room really help!

And if you are traveling together (on a single reservation) its less likely to happen. When you are a solo traveler, you tend to be the sacrificial lamb - at the same time, business travel is their bread and butter, so they don't really want to move those people around either.

Also, its most likely to happen because they switch planes - they'll swap in a larger plane if the flight is selling out - then everyone gets seats reassigned - or smaller if the plane looks like it might fly relatively empty. In that case you are likely to end up in the same configuration (i.e. if you were next to each other with one window and one aisle, you are likely to keep it), but in some situations, the airplane configuration changes - you could go from a six across (three and three) seat configuration to two and two (if the plane gets smaller).

It's more leg room but not more width. I decided to treat myself on an LAX-ATL flight and a big guy sat next to me making it uncomfortable.

That's actually probably something to keep in mind. A lot of the people that are paying for the Economy comfort seats are likely doing it because they are larger. If that's the case, it would make you more likely to be seated next to a larger person.

I think I'll just hope they keep my super tiny 7 year old in the seat next to me!
