Delta rescheduling question

My son's baseball team has an excellent chance of playing in a tournament in Atlanta this summer and I'm looking at flights now because we won't know if we're going until a week before the tournament begins. My question is if I book a flight with Delta now and I need to cancel, will I just be charged the $50 penalty and get a credit for the balance and reschedule the flight within a year's time like you can with Southwest? (SW doesn't fly to Atlanta.) I've e-mailed Delta with this question and I've been waiting 3 days for a response, so I thought I'd ask here.

I belive you can book with Delta and cancel with no charge and get a refund within 24 hrs. If you book the flight and go past that refund window you'll charged $50 per ticket to change the flight. You could by a refundable ticket, but it cost a lot more. Also, I would call them directly. I e-mailed with no response for days and in fact months later I'm still waiting. I called and was on hold for twenty minutes. I could barely understand the rep on the phone. His English was not good. Probably a call center in India.
We booked flights months ago to Disney and was thinking of rebooking to go to Memphis next year. It was going to cost me $500.0 to change the RT flight from CT to FL and back with 5 tickets at $50 it adds up fast.
Good luck.. :surfweb:

With Delta, I had to call a few times, and each time the customer service rep was wonderful, knowledgeable and easy to understand (perfect English). However, I'm calling from Canada, which might make a difference in which call centre I ended, since the reps were bilingual (English/French) all the time (sometimes I only found out after a few minutes on the phone!). I'd suggest you call them just to make sure.
