Delta quietly rescheduling flights

I have flights purchased for January going through Atlanta, and for some strange reason I decided to login and check them today. All but one of my flights had been cancelled due to "Schedule Change" and "Confirmed" on their new times.

That's fine, they were off by like 10 minutes in most cases, except...

...one of them was scheduled to take off before I landed in Atlanta.

I called up Delta and chatted with a CSR to get this fixed, and she informed me that they have a policy where they'll inform people over the phone *if* they have your phone number within three weeks of your flight if there has been a change. In my case, this would have been a few months from now, so I would have been utterly oblivious.

Another issue was that all of my seat selections were wiped from the system, so I had to re-request them. They didn't carry over the preferences, so all were listed as "assign at airport." I'm *really* glad I caught this as my DH would have fumed if we arrived and he didn't get his window seat, or we weren't even sitting next to each other, when we'd purchased tickets 7 months in advance!

Apparently, these schedule changes went into effect yesterday, so it was providence that I checked the flights today.

And this is why I check Delta's site several times a day!!! I have yet to fly on Song and not have some kind of change before my actual departure date. It may only be a few minutes change, but I still have to call and 'confirm' with them. Only one time was I not able to get my assigned seats back!! I'm leaving in 60 days and I just know there will be yet another change...most likely with my flight out of Boston. Sure would be nice if they moved it up a bit.

Problems like this are exactely why we decided to fly SWA this time. Even with the "cattle call" boarding at least you can select your own seats.

Well, sorta true. When I flew SW in August, for the first time, it was just my dd and myself. Both ways I got A boarding. I was about 8th in line at the gate. However, both flights, we ended up behind the wing since there were no window seats with a middle seat available!!! A lot of people that preboarded took up window and aisle seats..all the way back to the wing..I believe in hopes that no one would want to sit between them. However, that didn't happen. It was a full flight.
I'll still take my chances with Song. Only one time have I lost my front of the plane seat. All the other times I have gotten just where I wanted.

Thanks for the info. We have Delta tickets for December. Got them b/c they are non-stop austin to orlando at good times. I'm checking them daily because I want as much notice as possible if I have to rebook with someone else.

I got an email last week from Delta about a canceled flight. They had already re-booked me on another flight but it was an hour and a half earlier leaving Orlando and would not work for me. The Delta rep could not have been nicer when I called to change to a later flight. And, of course, there was no charge since it was Delta's change originally and not mine! Keeping my fingers crossed that the new flight doesn't also get canceled!

Delta notified us about our flight changes too. Flying down for the marathon was no problem with no change but they changed our return so we left mco at 11 in the morning and got back into manchester at 10 at night. they had us sitting on the ground all day in cinncinati. my mom called travelocity(who the tickets were purchased through) and they did a three way with delta to change to something better. we know leave about 3 from mco and hit mht about 8. not the direct swa flight but still not an 8 hour layover either. we would have flown swa one way if delta hadn't been willing to fix it. be thankful we don't have tickets on transmeridian.

I am presently multitasking and reading DIS and watching 20/20.

They just announced a little blurd about airlines quielty rescheduling flights, more to come at 11pm news. It is NY Channel 7 ABC.

That got my attention.

They've actually been quietly changing my flight since I booked this past February for a New Years Eve flight...6 times already. Of course, my seating choices have been dumped, and I can't choose online anymore. I figured I'd wait until they're done mixing things up and call them then if something is unacceptable. By the way, AA has done the same thing, and from what I understand, they're not suffering any financial disasters (yet.).

AA changed my flight as well without any notice. They changed it from an 11 am flight departure to an 8 am flight departure, and allowed only a 1/2 hour layover in O'Hare airport (which for those of you who haven't been to O'Hare is approximately the size of Manhattan...) As I am traveling with my 84 year old mother in a wheelchair, the early flight and the VERY short connection time is totally unworkable. They also did not transfer any of the wheelchair seating. When I called they were unable to offer any alternatives that were workable and when I told them the flights as booked would not work given the situation with my Mom, the response was, "Well, flights are changed all the time." At that point, I simply asked to have the ticket refunded which they did, although not very graciously. I rescheduled on Delta, which interesting had the return leg of the flight on a Northwest flight. The good news was that the new reservations saved me over a $100.

Delta did this to me in July. All our seat assignments were wiped out. They had not sitting together. I was upset until I realized that we got bumped to first class... I couldn't complain then. My son and DH sat together and I by myself.

We purchased flights a while ago from Boston to Orlando for the very busy Presidents vacation week. At the time the only reasonable price option was Connecting flights through Atlanta. Delta has changed our flights 3 times. In this process we have been moved to two song non stops with terriffic times. the people at Delta customers service couldn't have been nicer and more accomodating. :sunny:

This is standard airline practice. Flights are rescheduled at least quarterly. Sometimes your flights won't change at all, sometimes they change a few minutes and sometimes it's big.... If you buy tickets very early on any airline it pays to watch your flights.

Yes, Delta's been doing this for a while. I checked our flights for January just the other day. We now have a 12 hour layover in Cincinnati (We leave Orlando at 7 a.m. and don't get home until close to midnight!) We live in NH and could almost DRIVE home as fast as that!

I have a question and that is how do you know if you've been bumped from your seats ??? Delta has rescheduled a few times (usually only a minute or two), even changed the flight number but I still show my seat numbers on their web page. Am I missing something here ???

Thanks

When I have had my flight changed and it impacted my seat assignment, it has shown up as 'unconfirmed' when I check on the Delta site for my itinerary. And the seat shows as unassigned rather than the seat number I had. Then I have to physically call Delta/Song and confirm with them and most times have kept my seat assignments. The only time I have lost the seat I chose was when they had to combine two different flights. This is why I check daily...just to make sure.

Thanks for the info. Apparently, mine are still okay because it still shows my flight as being confirmed and my seat assignments are intact.

Keeping my fingers crossed there will be no more changes before our flight on October 23rd but probably just by saying that I just jinxed myself :ssst:

We're flying DL in Dec. and had flight changes too! No big problem, just making sure of seating assignments.
Also have trip planned for May, and 1 of the flts. has stayed the same and one changed by 10. min. By the time May rolls around I expect it to change even more.
Reading news & watching everyone on any airline should be prepared for changes. The cost of fuel is forcing cancellations & changes for all of them not just DL.
Do what I do along with several others here, go online and check your reservation every couple of days. When you see changes check your seats if possible or call the airline for confirmation. Have them e-mail new confirmation too, then you have it in writing!

Boy does this scare me!!! We have flights with Air Trans and the flights were web specials, so we have no seat assignment. I have checked the site several times and we are still confirmed... now what happens if they change the time of the flight and we can't make it?? Is there a time limil ie...if they change it more than an hour they wont charge me to rebook if I need too! Or can they change my flight and I have nothing to say about it?? :flower:

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I normally don't fly Delta, but liked the connections, so grabbed a flight out of Green Bay to MCO.

I checked today, and sure enough they changed my times. Well - the problem was they had us arriving in Cincinnati at 9:23am, but our connection to MCO leaving at 8:30am. I told the woman that was a problem for me and she said "Why? You get in 30 minutes earlier than scheduled." Then she realized I wasn't going to get there at all if I didn't make the connection!

Anyway, my flight leaves later - 6:45am vs. 5:30am (my husband will be happy), but we also get in 2 hours later than I wanted. Oh well... at least I caught it now and not when we went to check in in January! :)

The agent did say to keep checking back because they may bring back my earlier flight and I could change back to it for no cost. Which would make me happy!
