Delta problem

I have flown Delta numerous times and rarely had complaints. However, I flew with them on Tues this week and really had to be agressive to work things out for myself. Usually I drive to my parents house since it's only about a 6 hr car drive away. This time I found a perfect fare for perfect times so I decided to fly one way with my 19 month old daughter. I was supposed to take off at 11am. Well, the day before I decided to check my flights online. I went to my itinerary which said my flights were confirmed then proceeded to click on the actual flight numer. It said my second flight was cancelled. I was surprised since it was less than 24 hrs until my flight and I hadn't had a call from them. I did call and tried to work something else out. My only option, since everything later in the day was overbooked was to leave at 6am or wait until the next day. I finally took the early flight. They did work it out for me, but nothing had rebooked me and I had to really inconvenience myself by leaving my house at 4:45 am!! It's ok that the flight was cancelled but I could not believe they never contacted me!

I can't believe that either. My hubby looked into one of his flights a couple of months earlier--neither flight cancelled..but the times had change. He arrived at the connecting city after his connecting flight took off. :confused3 .

He caught it when reviewing his flights and had it corrected...but it just seemed silly.

Today--his takeoff was aborted--they placed him on another flight--but he was 2 minutes too late to the gate (gotta love Dulles). He had to hike all the way back to Delta to get it fixed. Now he's upset b/c he's now on a connecting flight to Orlando (former flight was direct to our local airport) and to top it all off--he's seated right next to the potty.

Gotta love Gold Medallion status. :teeth:

I haven't had a flight cancelled yet, but have had numerous flight times change drastically without any notification from Delta. On our trip to WDW in Sept. they changed the flight number and time and also split up our family of 5 with no notification. I just happened to be online looking at the flight seating charts to see how full our flights were and noticed a couple of our seats showed they were available. Fortunately, I noticed this in advance of our trip and was able to change our seats to be together, as this flight ended up being a full flight. After that, I called Delta each week to confirm our seat assignments. Would have been really disappointed if we had to fly there without sitting together.

Each time I've booked a United flight and there has been a change, I get either an e-mail or phone call with the new information. Not sure why I haven't had that luck with Delta.

Not too surprised, actually. January I had flights canceled due to weather. They called my office back home and left voicemail messages saying my flight was canceled! My voicemail message clearly stated that I would not be checking my messages until whatever the date was I got back and they never called my home number, which was also in my profile! Hearing from friends who were also 'stuck' in Orlando, I called and eventually got rebooked on a later flight. Recalled them ALL morning to verify it, but never got through all lines were busy. Got to the airport and that flight was canceled too and couldn't get a flight until the next evening. It really wasn't a big deal to me as I got an extra 36 hours at WDW. Funniest thing was 3 weeks later, I got a 'your flights have been canceled' receipt in the mail for the second flight home that was canceled. They're not great on notifiying you, which is why I check my flights almost once a week.

Here's a good suggestion for bad weather etc. if you have access to email or text messages.

Go to Delta. com On the home page at the very bottom under Flight Status you'll see the phrase Flight Reminders & updates. Click there. Put in your flight number and date You then pick the device the messages are to be sent to, and when you want them to start...

I have always found it wise not to depend on the airline to notify me of anything. If you have a flight scheduled it is a good idea to keep an eye on it right up to flight time.

Safetymom,
I agree, but I have found the DL flight alerts to be very good... I got one one recently telling me a flight was delayed. I got it early enough to call and get changed to an earlier flight that was also delayed. The "earlier" flight got me home at the time I would have normally arrived. Had I waited until I got the airport, the earlier flight probably would have been full.

CarolA, I agree that flight alerts are good. I was just saying that no one should just depend on the airline to notify them of any changes. I sign up for alerts when I fly but I also check myself in case the system didn't notify me.

Also, Flight Alerts only work CLOSE to the time you are leaving... So if DL or any airline changes your flights weeks/months in advance this won't help. It's really good however if you know you are flying into or out of weather systems that can cause delays!
