Delta keeps switching our seats around...

Does anybody know when Delta stops changing planes (smaller plane to a bigger plane), flight times, etc. This morning, I logged in to check AGAIN that our seats were still the same so that we can all sit together and once again, for the 5TH TIME, I have had to reselect all of our seats so that we are not split up. I am so sick of doing this. From what I can tell, the type of plane changed this time to a bigger plane. Last time I had to do this it was because the flight time changed by 4 minutes. Is there a cut off date as it gets closer to departure date when they will stop doing this????

The short answer is that there is no cut off. They can and will change planes all the up to the last minute. At least you know in advance to change your seats. Our flight from Maui last year was changed and I didn't know until I printed boarding passes for our flight to Hawaii. Of course, by that time we could not select seats together. When we left the gate agent was able to get two of us together and my DH sat a few rows up.

I know how frustrating that is, it had happened to me also. This is the reason I will never fly them again. I never even look at the site anymore to compare prices.

The good news is that they stop changing planes and seat assignments just before the plane pushes back from the gate.

In my experience, not until your trip is done. My last time flying Delta the kept moving my flight back and forth by 5 minutes. I kept loosing my seat assignement too. Then my non-stop flight on the way home became one with a layover, and I couldn't get a seat assignment on the second flight. They then couldn't print out my boarding pass for my second flight at RAC, so I had to go to the gate and have it taken care of.

I will never fly DELTA again if that was the worst of my experience with them I would be happy....
I thankfully have a lot of options form NY with 3 major airports...
PS at JFK the elevator to get your bags at DELTA is OUTSIDE yes that means walking out a door waiting and then going back in a door......we had a stroller... and it was winter

We had this happen to us, even after we checked in online the night before with seat assignments for all legs of our trip.

When we arrived at 4 am for our 6 am flight, seat assignments in hand for three adults (including a disabled passenger with a wheelchair assistance request) and two kids under 7, we were told that for some reason we had ALL been put on standby at our connecting city! WHAT? Thankfully the ticket agent was able to get on the phone with a supervisor in the connecting city and get it fixed. It took a good 30 minutes. Thankfully we arrived way early.

Add me to the list of people who will NEVER fly Delta again.

Yeah I know. It will last as long as the other airlines are the same price or cheaper. As soon as they go on and find a fare on that particular airline for $50 less they will forget about their pledge. lol

One time I was at the gate and we were all waiting for boarding to start, boarding passes in hand. Then came the annoucement that they were switching us to a smaller plane (because the flight wasn't full) and there would be a 30 minute delay while they pulled it from the hangar. So glad my first class seat wasn't in the last row of first class, because that row completely disappeared.

Moral to the story: it can happen ANYTIME! You aren't safe until the flight is in the air.

Generally, though, the schedule and equipment changes tail-off at least three weeks prior to the flight. Changes that happen after that are generally related to specific incidents (equipment failures, weather delays, etc.)

To reduce the incidence of schedule changes, choose airlines that don't allow you to book that far in advance. To reduce the incidence of equipment changes, choose airlines that have only one kind of aircraft.

Got to the airport last year on a Delta flight that was overbooked according to on-line check-in. Well, Delta had the NERVE to reassign our seats and FORCED DD and I to sit in First Class. Hey, I paid good money ($69 EACH) for those coach seats!!

I got very fed up with Delta in 2006 when I used FF miles for a ticket to Orlando at Thanksgiving. They changed my routing, then pulled out of my airport completely 2 months before my trip. I flew out of an airport an hour away, which wasn't too bad. I also experienced losing my seat assignment every time the flight time changed by even a few minutes, and my reassigned seats moved further and further back in the plane. I would've cancelled the ticket, except I knew that if I redeposited the miles, I would have to deal with Delta again in the future!

Fast forward a few years, and my Northwest miles are now Delta miles! I bought a one-way ticket on Delta from Orlando to Bloomington, IL last night for March 9 @ $91.40 including taxes, in spite of my dislike of Delta. Today the fare is up $45!

Good for you! So often I hear I'll never use or fly........ and sure enough as soon as the price is right the pledge is totally forgotten.

It is nice to hear someone keeping their word, it is so rare anymore.

A friend & I have reservations for October and twice they moved us to the last row of the plane. Plenty of seats close to the front but they moved us to the very back. I just went in and changed them back to the front of coach. Our flight home was early, 12:40pm but that was the latest I could get for FF miles. That flight was moved even earlier, I called them and they moved us to a 6:25pm for no charge! I'm happy with that!

I have miles with both US and DL, I'll take DL anyday!

If I have a repeat of my 2006 experience with Delta in 2011, I will take the Delta miles I have, move enough Starwood points to Delta for a domestic FF award, and use one of Delta's partners for my award ticket! THEN I'll never fly Delta again!

The only domestic partner Delta has is Alaska Airlines. They merged with Northwest and Continental moved to Star Alliance (merging with United).

I've sworn never to fly united since 2004 and Delta since 2005. It's 2010 and I have yet to fly either one.

We fly SW, Jetblue, Virgin and Alaska.
