Delta is the worst ever!!!

Our Jetblue flight in just under 2 months is not even half full. Luckily we chose the earliest flight at 6 AM, but even the one at about 7:15 AM is wide open. I understand the chances are high that our flight may be combined with another, and I understand why. I just hope that if we get bumped its only to the next flight, and not two slots later, so we don't miss our 12 PM lunch ADR. We have a somewhat early dinner at Ohana (5:45), so if we miss our lunch, we'll probably just get a light snack before dinner. It's the uncertainty thats making me nervous. I would hate to rush to the airport by 5-5:30 AM only to find out we're not going till 9:30, especially since we are paying for transportation to the airport & will be stuck there (to eat, etc). I will be sure to have books, toys, games, etc for everyone just in case.

Leaving the same time in the morning, first flight. Only half full. I too was wondering if it were going to be combined. I still have 4 months plus....

You do realize that the seat chart is not entirely accurate when reflecting the actual load on the plane?

But I am in no hurry to get to Ft. Lauderdale. We are spending 3 days there before going to Miami to cruise. I didn't want to be rushed. I have three days to play with:rotfl:

Please cut the OP some slack. She is upset. I'm sure this is not how she pictured her vacation starting off. She came here wanting some empathy, some one to say, "that really stinks." And quite frankly it does stink. I'm sorry that this happened, and I hope the rest of your vacation will be "magical". I'm sending some pixie dust your way for extra luck........
pixiedust:

I agree and you know ..she was expecting to fly! Not drive...I know circumstances happen but obviously not what I would have been expecting. And it is really a crummy way to start a vacation to WDW

The motto here on the transportation board is that there is no pixie dust here.

We are trying to help with correct information and how to handle the situation.

I can understand wanting to go on vacation but sometimes stuff happens. It is up to us how we handle our situation.

We are lining up "appropriate" sponsors for our adds right now.

Snuff
Boone's Farm
Playboy. (And it will even be educational!)
Life Insurance companies (A little late to think about this AFTER you get on Bubba, but...)
popcorn::
How about some Personal Accident/Injury Attorneys? And Acme? ;)

I can vouch for that!

I have three flights on JetBlue coming up. The second one is to Las Vegas, and I've already selected my seat.

Well, when I read the thread about the $15 discount, I tried booking my same itinerary again (yes, BEFORE I read the post about the fine print stating it's not valid on prior purchases :)). I got as far as seat selection, and it appears about 80%-85% of the seats are available. But when I try to change my seat on my existing reservation on the same flight at the same rate - about 60% of the seats are taken! Go figure :confused3

And weather related delays is not always as simple as a storm at departing/destination airport. It could be a problem with the flying corridor at high altitudes that you just can't see. My DBF holds a private pilot license, and as he says, there is more than what your eyes see. He has first hand experience with the fact that you never know when you'll get somewhere on a plane. You need to understand that aerodynamics has a big role to play, and winds, temperature, ... can decrease a plane flyability.

Stuff happens, and while I also hate to wait for a plane, I feel confident that the airlines value our security. Has anyone here ever watched Mayday(Air Emergency in the US I think)? Not good if you're scared to fly, but pretty instructive!

I have found through my travels that Delta is one of the best. Travelers need to learn to not sweat the small stuff. You may have gotten there late but you would have been there.

Ditto! I have flown many many times and I still hold Delta at the top of my list!

Yeah, stuff happens. I was all set to fly from Burbank home to EWR on America West, and that flight was cancelled. They shuttled me to LAX to get on a plane that would get me back to EWR, but a few hours late. Wasn't really thrilled with LAX (that was why I booked out of Burbank to begin with), but better than getting on a broken plane :scared1:

And, as far as people thinking that no weather delay at JFK translates to no weather delay at LGA, that isn't true. Flew down to Orlando last March, and JetBlue flights out of JFK were all on time. The ones out of LGA and EWR all had huge delays due to wind.

Maybe the OP could use this as a life lesson for her child - not everything works out as planned. It is a valuable lesson that a lot of people should relearn themselves and teach their children.

As long as you got to Disney safe and sound - that should be the part you focus on, it does not help to stew about things you cannot control.

I would rather arrive a day late then go up in an airplane that needs serviced or into a terrible storm.

I do hope the OP finally got to Disney and is enjoying themselves.

Good grief! I forgot about those life insurance kiosks all the airports used to have! Right next to the hare krishna information booths! :lmao:

Oh, my goodness! I remember those! A friend took her first flight and was certain she wouldn't return, so she had to buy the insurance! *LOL* That was in the mid-70s. :)

Hope the OPs holiday is going more smoothly now!

Here is my Delta story this week.

I booked my 15 year old son on Delta for his Washington, DC trip this October. He was supposed to fly out of Salem, Oregon, our home town.

Last weekend it's announced in both of our newspapers and on all of the major news channels that Delta is pulling out of Salem and will no longer offer flights after October. The media provides the phone number for passengers to call to rebook/refund...it's the number that the Delta spokesperson provided.

I call 3 days after the news breaks and it takes me 2 hours on the phone and 4 transfers before I get an employee that has any idea of what I am talking about. Apparently it's not "official" news yet. :confused3 I had to tell them that they cancelled my sons flight.

We finally get him rebooked out of Portland and when I get the email confirmation his name is spelled completely wrong so back on the phone I go for another 25 minute wait. :sad2:

You got lucky,

Generally until the airline updates thier schedule the poor employees don't have a clue and can't fix it.

(Have you read the MidWest thread:lmao: )

This is really not uncommon. I have seen it posted here recently for several AirTran and Delta flights.

The problem is the airline has to terminate the gate leases and that generally has to occur before they change the schedule so the media moves faster then the schedule guys.

Probably in a few days they would have known and been ready when you called.

I can understand both sides here.

I can see the reality of flying today and that there are no guarantees that you will arrive when your itinerary says you will. Most things air travel related are beyond our control and it's pointless flipping out over things that I have no control over.

I can also really empathize with the disappointment you experience when a trip you've been planning for a long time suffers a setback (especially when there are kids along). I always go in with the attitude of "if they can just get me there within a couple of hours of when they said they would, then I don't care how badly the trip home goes". The beginning of the vacation is where all the excitement and anticipation is. Getting back home is just getting back to reality, no hurry.

So...to the OP, I would have been disappointed too.

I'm not flying Delta! Reason is we booked a non-stop flight to Orlando in January for our September trip to WDW from Kansas City, by chance we found out they had changed it to a layover trip, we called and re-booked to a NONstop flight for another flight out and they changed that one too later on to a layover flight. Now, the only reason we decided to fly Delta back then was because we didn't want a layover. No email about the changes even once. So for us it's all Southwest, at least we have had no trouble with nonstop flights changing ever! :thumbsup2
