What do you think about Delta Airlines financial troubles. If I have tickets for next May, will I have a problem. If they do quit flying, do you think anyone else would honor tickets??

If they do stop flying, I'm sure there will be airlines that will accept your tickets (most likely their partners, Continental and Northwest). However, I don't see Delta going out of business. You should be fine.

If Delta files bankruptcy it will most likely be a Chapter 11 reorganization, which means they get protection from their creditors, not a Chapter 7 liquidation, which means they would cease operations.

Traditionally, if airlines have ceased operations, other airlines will honor their tickets on a space-available basis with a small fee. There hasn't been a MAJOR airline cease operations in many years, so its difficult to say what would happen if a major stopped flying.

Bottom line, if Delta files bankruptcy, they're still going to be flying. Heck, United has been in bankruptcy protection for over 2 years now.

I don't forsee them stopping flying. As gw points out United has been in for two years, USAir for over a year.. and they are still in the air. .

I think both DL and NW will declare within the next month or so....

However, you are protected to a certain extent if a scheduled carrier quits flying... Can't recall all the details but congress passed a law requiring the other carriers to accept your ticket for a fee not to exceed $50???
