I need to soon replace/reload the cartridges on a Dell printer. What's the most economical way to do so? It's an AIO A940. I'm assuming there must be a cheaper way than ordering directly from Dell. Are there any replacements I can get at Sam's or Office Max that would be cheaper?

Thanks.

Do a search on eBay. I recently bought batteries and software at very good prices. Just be sure to look at the seller's rating and length of time they have been selling and return policies.

There is also a place by me called "Cartridge World" (they are a chain, so check your phone book). They will take any kind of cartridge, and refill it for a fraction of the cost of buying a new one. I was very skeptical at first, after having tried some of the "home remedy" cartridge refills. I have a Dell printer, and they refilled my cartridges, and they worked great. I will continue to go back there and pay less! :flower:

My DH has mentioned before that Dell printers are propietary - that's why they give them to you for free when you buy their computers! He deals with Dell a lot at work - part of his job is buying the new computers for the company. So be careful, but good luck!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this? Should the 3rd party company not be refilling the cartridges? If not, this would be a problem for them, not me, no? Or am I totally misunderstanding what you are saying? :flower:

Unfortunately I discovered I needed a new cartidge for my Dell printer the night we had to print our boarding passes for Southwest--the cartridge was half full but the jets were clogged and I couldn't inclog them. Thought I could buy one at staples or office max only to find out I had to order it. Thank goodness my SIL let me come over at midnight to print our passes.

I would avoid refilling ink cartridges if at all possible. I had a bad experience with a refilled cartridge that ultimately ruined my printer. Most everyone I mentioned this to said they had the same experience. I'd rather pay a bit more for a new cartridge than risk ruining a whole printer again. Just beware.

You must order them from Dell. Dell printer cartridges have internal printer heads in them so you get new printer heads each time you get new ink. This gives you better printing over time. Also, with dell you can order the high capacity cartridges which print more than double the pages for only about $5 more than other types of cartridges.

dh used to be a dell salesman, I adore my printer and this is the way I understand it from him. I hope I used the right terminology, he's not here for me to ask for the official spiel. :teeth:

Oooohhhh! I certainly wouldn't have known that, nor the info from the other poster who said the cartridges were proprietory. Maybe using a different cartridge or refilling would affect the warranty.

I'd like to do some home printing. Guess it may not be worth it to try a save a couple bucks under those circumstances.

Thanks everyone.

Just a quick FYI for all of us.... the ink cartridges sometimes if not always contain mercury so when disposing of them they are considered hazardous waste. Easy fix CVS has in their stores right near where you would buy a refill a recycle bag for them! It costs nothing and it is a pre paid postage bag! So if you do opt to just get new ones please stop somewhere and get the bags to help with our enviroment.
