Is anyone else concerned about Dell laptops and the problem with battery recalls? I know other brands, such as HP, Apple and Gateway also had problems, with battery recalls, but isn't Dell the only brand that actually caught on fire? I just recently bought a Dell laptop, and now my sister-in-law said that I shouldn't have bought a Dell because of overheating/fire problems. Should I be concerned??

Considering that the batteries weren't made by Dell but Toshiba, I wouldn't worry about it. Dell issued new batteries to all affected units and the new units don't ahve bad batteries.

I've had my Inspiron for over two years now with no problems.

The battery problem could have happened to any company, it just happened to be Dell this time. Next time it could be "insert name of laptop manufacturer here."

My Dell is a lot more reliable than my Acer and IBM's were.

I thought that the Dell Batteries were manufactured by Sony.

I have Dell Desktops and a laptop and (knock on wood) they have all been pretty good machines.

My Office has all Dell workstations and we just purchased all new machines again all Dell.

I've had my Dell for years and had no problems. I also thought the batteries were Sony. There were a lot of different manufacturers affected by the battery recall, not just Dell. And like already mentioned, they aren't putting the bad batteries in the computers anymore.

I thought they were Toshiba. If they were SONY I stand corrected. Either way the problem has been resoved and the OP shouldn't worry.

I have been useing a cooler and can't believe the difference it makes. I bought it for DD's LT but I got her Desktop up and running again so she doesn't use the LT that much . I'm using the cooler on my work Dell right now as we speak.

What type of cooler is it? Where did you buy it?

I've got an Inspiron 6000. Back in Aug. I found out about the battery recall so I looked it up and got a list of all the types of Dell computer batteries that were affected. The Inspiron was on that list so I filled out the form and got a new battery for it.

Just check and see if you're computer is on that list. I had no problems before with the battery...but I got the new battery just in case. No problems getting or anything either, got it in the mail in about 3 weeks time.

It's not the computer that's on the list or the problem, it's the battery (SONYs). My Dell or SONY laptops both could have come with a problem battery, but my specific batteries aren't part of the recall. You have to actually check the numbers on the battery itself to determine if it's subject to the recall. If it is, it should be replaced even if you haven't had a problem with it.
