I am thinking about purchasing one to take with us on our trip next month and was wondering if anyone here has one and if you like it? I would buy the portable DVD/CD drive because I would like to also use it as a portable DVD player for my daughter on the airplane. Any opinions or reviews?

You're gonna have to buy an external drive to play dvds because the 9" has no disk drives. Buy a portable dvd player instead.

Sorry, misread your post, hey, if ya wanna lug both pieces (the 9" 'n the external drive), go for it, it's a fairly nice machine to have for travel 'n a whole lot easier to haul around than a 17".

I want internet access at the resort, USB port to charge my digital camera and a portable DVD player for the vacation which is why I am considering the purchase of the mini laptop... Would both the portable DVD drive and the 9" mini laptop still be smaller and lighter to carry on the plan than a regular size laptop? I think my Dell laptop is a 15".

Oh yeah, definitely. ::yes::

I bought the 9" for travel purposes and I'm makin' myself play on it coz it's definitely different from my 17", tiny li'l thing.
While it's awkward and not what I'm used to, it certainly is convenient to pick up and carry out the door.

Thanks!!!! Did you also purchase the portable cd/DVD drive? If so, is it awkward to use? We would be trying to use it on an airplane.

I have a mini hp laptop that I got at costco (it was around $600 I believe) it is great and small, but awkward to use and took some getting used to!

I bought a "previously ordered new" Mini 9 from the Dell outlet last month for $300 including tax/shipping, love it!! The only thing that's hard to get used to is the dang apostrophe key, it's in an odd spot but other than that I'm pretty used to the keyboard now. It could never replace my main laptop but I bought it primarily for portability.

I think I read when I was researching netbooks that the HP has a slightly better keyboard than the Dell (but the HP has a smaller battery if that's important to you) so you may want to check them out in Best Buy for comparison.

I got one for my boss in December. He loves it and it'll be great to take to customers when he's doing estimates. I already have a portable drive so I used that to load software on it. We put wireless internet on it and a portable printer.

For me the keyboard is to small for lots of typing and I have small hands.

Yes, I bought the LG 8X Slim, it's 6" x 6", real lightweight, runs $99.
The only hassle I could see for you is maybe being cramped for space on that pulldown laptray on the plane when you put the mini and drive side by side.
You really might be better off just buying a portable dvd player since that seems to be what you need.

From what I've read the Dell mini was running hot, maybe they've fixed that problem. When I'm ready for one I'll buy the Acer it's received good reports. Walmart sells them for a good price.
