That's kind of a Disney urban myth that's been going around for some time.

I heard that it would be very expensive to extend the monorail and it would make it less appealing if it had many more stops, so there are no current plans to extend it.

I was told that the architect (sorry, I don't remember his name) who designed both Swan and Dolphin has "black squares/rectangles" as one of his signature designs in all his buildings.

On one of our bus rides the driver told us that the original plan was for the monorail to run through the resorts. I had never seen it mentioned before so didn't know if he was just having a little fun with us all or not. It made for a fun & interesting story, either way.

I believe it was Michael Graves who designed S/D.

I'm not sure how wide the areas are, but given the needed length of a monorail station I don't believe it would be possible. The monorails are too long.

We were told this same story by our Illuminations Cruise boat driver.....He said at one time they planned to run the monorail thru there....but it never happened

We were told the same thing on the Illuminations Cruise, that the plan had originally been to run the Monorail through there.

We were told this on our Illumination's cruise too - did we have the same boat driver I wonder :D

My illuminations driver said the same thing too! I personally didn't believe him.

We were told by driver of the friendship launches that they were originally going to have the monorail pass through the Dolphin, but when those plans were scrapped they filled in the large hole with rooms. I believed him, but now I'm wondering if it's a "Disney" joke.

Michael Graves was the architect, he has a cool website www.michaelgraves.com that actually ahs a blurb on the S/D on it. He does use a lot of triangles and rectangles in his plans, but they aren't neccesarily black.

The monorail piece is an urban legend. There never was a plan to extend the monorail through the two hotels.

As to why WDW doesn't build more monorails, very simple. Money and logistics. It costs about a million dollars to build half a mile of monorail (that might be a low figure). The monorail isn't the most efficient people mover system, and it's expensive to maintain and operate. So it makes no sense to build another monorail line.

Michael Graves also does some items with a Disney design sold at Target stores. I've bought a few of his picture frames. Really cute!

We also had a bus driver that told us the same monorail story. I'm usually pretty quick on the uptake if someone is pulling my leg, but I guess I got fooled after all.
