Jeans are fine. Just don't wear a swimsuit or ripped clothes (or a tank top if you are a guy).

We were there on xmas night 2 years ago and DH, DS dressed in collared polo shirts and khakis and me and my 2 sisters had xmas sweaters and nice pants. Most people were dressed similarly. No one was in shorts, but it was december. As we were heading to the elevator after our meal, a Japanese father, mother and toddler came up in the elevator and he was dressed in board shorts. The CM at the podium told him he could not dine there in his attire. Don't know why the CM on 2nd floor didn't say anything when he brought them up. He and his family left without incident. so, there do enforce a casual/nice attire dress code.

Don't know why the family's race had anything to do with it but the only things that will keep you from being seated are ripped/torn clothing; offensive graphics, and swimwear attire (board shorts would fall into this category). Also, men are not allowed to dine in tank tops or wear hats.

We have dined in jeans here and every other signature without an issue. We were at WDW last month and our party was in shorts/tees/tennis shoes and we dined at signatures every night.

When we ate there, both DH and DS were in Khaki shorts and sneakers (both wore collared shirts). It was summer time, and we didn't have any problems and neither of them felt underdressed.

Did not imply that their nationality had anything to do with the situation, just remembered the family. I stated they were asked to leave because of the man's attire......not anything otherwise.

If it's something you wore earlier at the theme park, go ahead and consider it not nice enough. This is an incredibly expensive restaurant and there are lots of dates, special occasions, etc. being celebrated here where some people do dress up to make it more special. I have dined here once, and I wish they would have an age limit of at least 5 because when you are spending $200 on a 2-person dinner you don't want to have a screaming infant sitting right across from you. I know it's Disney, but there need to be some exceptions.

What the OP proposes to wear will be just fine. Many others will have on jeans and in all sorts of colors and condition.
Footwear isn't mentioned as part of the suggested dress code, so even sneakers would be fine. Sandals as well.
And I agree--board shorts would easily be recognized as swimwear, which is one of the few actually prohibited items. So they were properly turned away.

Based on the advice from another thread, I plan to wear a summer dress (and I'm wearing dresses to the parks everyday, so I guess it will be my park attire.) My husband and three boys plan to wear khaki shorts and polo shirts for a 5:30pm ADR. My only concern is that I have flip flop style sandals that match my dress - they are very versatile, but I'm wondering if I need to bring different shoes (that do not go with my dress) to comply with the dress code.

Children in restaurants is off topic for this thread...please stick to discussing what to wear to California Grill. I've deleted two posts that was exclusively about children in restaurants and didn't discuss dressing for the restaurants at all.

To the previous poster, your thong sandals are fine. They're not swimwear and that's what Disney says is not allowed.
