My sister and her family just returned from there. They loved it. She said it was very classy. (You had to tip for everything) The kids loved the pools. They have stayed many places at Disney and this one I think was #2. #1 was Shades of Green.

I have stayed at 3 of the Downtown Disney Hotels.

1.) 1996-Grosvenor, although it's located in a great location, I did not like this hotel. I felt it was run down and needed a major renovation. The pool area was nice, and the transportation was fine.

2.) 2000-Wyndham Palace, I really like this hotel. I thought the hotel and the grounds were very nice. I liked the balcony in the room. We did not use the transportation, again proximity to Downtown Disney was great! The restaurants that we ate at, were good, and the pool was nice.

3.) 2002-Hilton, I thought the atmosphere at the Hilton was more corporate than the atmosphere at the Wyndham Palace. The hotel was nice, rooms on the smaller size for a party of 4. We did not use transporation, also very close to Downtown Disney. Weren't too happy with restaurants. Pool was nice.

Out of the 3 hotels I'd stay at the Wyndahm again first, then Hilton. I wouldn't stay at Grosvenor again.

Hi Lenny l~I am staying at the Wyndham at this very moment. I am here with my DF, DH, and 2DD (6&7). We are having a wonderful time, the hotel is beautiful and we have a great view of DTD. They have fireworks everynight at midnight. It is a short walk to DTD and the transportation isn't too bad. Our room is huge and very clean. We have two queen beds and more room then we know what to do with. The pools are very warm and nice. There is a sauna, hot tub and 3 tennis courts and a volley ball court (sand). The staff is very nice and if you need anything and they can get it for you, they will!! I would not hesitate to stay here again. If you have any other questions, just ask. I will try to log on again before we leave. Also, they have a gov. rate of $95.00 (That they don't advertise) Just an FYI

TinkHappy - So glad to read your glowing report of the Wyndham. We are staying there in October (got it on Priceline for $60). I do have a couple of questions: (1) does your room have a sleeper sofa, or even a sofa? I've seen pictures and read that the king size rooms have sleeper sofas, and I was wondering if the double queen size did as well. Also, (2) is there any particular area of the resort you would recommend (i.e. upper part of the tower with a Disney view, or down by the pool)? Thanks for all of the information, hope you have a safe trip home after a wonderful vacation!

Walking to DTD from the Wyndam is very easy. I did it everytime I wanted to bus to the parks! (Keep in mind that I practically NEVER get there at opening!)

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but this vacation thing keeps getting in the way of my DIS, hahahaha.
We are on the 24th floor, Room 2124. It has a great view!!! But it is of DTD only, you can't see EPCOT or MK. If you want that view, the way the hotel is shaped, you lose your DTD view. You can see fireworks everynight at midnight from DTD's New Years Eve party. If I were to come back, I would want the same view. It's beautiful.
Also, we have the two queen room and no there is not a pull-out sofa. I checked with the desk and they said you may request a pota-bed. There is more than enough room to put an extra twin bed in here and you would still be left with enough room to have a small party.
Right now it is not easy to get to DTD by walking. That is just because they are working on the roads. It's really going to help with traffic. It appears they are making good progress, so they should be done soon. It really isn't too bad, you just have to walk to the corner at the light to cross. My 6&7 year old can do it, it's fine.
I hope I answered your questions. I will check back if you have any more.
Just one last thing, the staff here is excellent, they bed over backwards for you. I am very pleased.

We are a family of 5 (3 young children), so I'll be taking a twin air mattress. Sounds like this hotel will work just fine. Thanks for putting my mind at ease, and have a safe trip home!

Glad to hear that after 16 years it's still a wonderful place! We spend our honeymoon there when it was the Buena Vista Palace. We loved the balcony overlooking the pools and saw some beautiful sunrises....and thunderheads.
We walked to DTD almost every evening because the parks (only MK and Epcot then) closed early. It was known as the WDW Village and they were just breaking ground for Pleasure Island.
Someday we'll visit again and I'm sure it will still be magical.

Hi, my famity stayed at Wyndham for 3 nights last July. I thought I was doing the right thing by finding a non-Disney hotel for the two guys. They always say I'm too Disney happy. We had a room on the 24th floor---what a view!! But for those who are leery, even a little bit, of heights, should be warned. The balcony is at an odd angle and I did not feel very secure. The view of Downtown Disney/Marketplace is fantastic, especially at night. I never left the balcony--yes I was brave. My husband took me to their cocktail lounge on an upper floor and from those windows you can see EPCOT and possibly the fireworks from a much-north Magic Kingdom.
The hotel was lovely, the pools were nice and the restaurants were fine. It just wasn't Disney! For that Disney touch I would suggest Wilderness Lodge, Port Orleans French Quarter or Riverside, and Coronado Springs Resort in the moderate price range. If money were not a concern I would try to save for the Polynesian Resort or Yacht Club. I always feel that if I can't afford an extra $200 or so, then I probably should not be going at all.
After all was said and done, the son and husband agreed that they missed the Disney touch. Boy, was I kicking myself. I hope this helps you. The Wyndham is a nice hotel and you would not be making a mistake staying there, but the authenticity of a national park hotel in the British Columbia pine country (Wilderness Lodge) beckons me every time!

We stayed at Wyndham Palace in March 2002. The place is nice but our room did need some minor repairs (loose wallpaper, loose door handle) The hallways seemed a little beat up. We were on the 17th floor. You want the Downtown Disney view. Its awsome at night. The Epoct , MK view is the other side but they are a good ways away so you cant really see them. There is a small food shop on the first floor but very expensive. A couple donuts, muffin, bagel & beverages will run you about $20.00. Best to pick up something when you are out & keep it in your room. I did get some good video from the balcony.
