Defunct Amusement Parks...

SeaWorld of Ohio

It was taken over by Six Flags and the name changed to Six Flags Marine Park but that is now gone too.

Playland at the Beach in San Francisco.

My brothers and I fought like normal siblings, but the one thing we would come together on was Playland at the Beach. We would (gasp) tell our parents we were going to the zoo, get on the streetcar to the zoo and walk a couple miles down the beach to Playland.

The Fun House at Playland was a place to have immense fun through bodily harm. No way could you leave Fun House without 1/10th of your body surface area covered in bruises. This of course was if you survived the huge wooden slides - bummer if the burlap sack went down before you.

And Playland at the Beach was the original home of It's It.

Good times, mixed with the occaional sprained ankle and burned butt.

OMG and the rickity wooden roller coaster :crazy2:

in northern california add santa's village and frontier village ("the fastest fun in the west" :goodvibes ). marine world became marine world/africa usa became six flags marine world, is becoming...(? it's down the road aways and the city of vallejo is looking into buying it from the current company).

what about heritage usa-never went there myself but i remember when it got closed due to the ptl scandle.

i miss the old funhouse at santa cruz beach boardwalk (it got torn down and renovated after the earthquake). you could spend HOURS in it-big slides with feed sacks to slide down on, the huge round disk that spun like crazy and shot kids off into padded walls :upsidedow

Another one for Astroworld. Six Flags ruined this park and now they're bulldozing it. It's so sad. :(

Pleasure Island, Wakefield, MA
Whalom Park, Lunenburg, MA
Rocky Point, Warwick, RI
Shaheen's FunO'Rama, Salisbury Beach, MA
Riverside Park (now 6 Flags) Agawam, MA
Revere Beach, Revere, MA (they were just tearing it all down when I was a little kid in the mid-60's)

We also used to go to a small park in Dania or Hollywood FL, Dominion maybe??

I've got two previously mentioned -- Ghost Town in Maggie Valley, NC, and Lakeside in Salem, VA -- plus one new one: Land of Oz in Banner Elk, NC.

Here in Florida:

Circus World in Haines City (it was also Boardwalk & Baseball for a while before it closed) That big wooden roller coaster right off the interstate was how I always knew we were almost at Disney!

Those are the two I was going to mention. I went to both of those parks many times. Ahhh good times :flower:

Fairy Tale Forest, Oakridge, NJ

Bertrand Island Lake Hopatcong, NJ

I remember that place! Didn't it burn down?
It was torched after it closed. Probably the partiers that used the facilities after they put up the mounds of dirt to keep people out of the parking lots.

I think it was called Pike's Peak. On the boardwalk at Long Beach, CA.

What was the name if the Haunted Mansion place near Great Adventure, N.J.
that burned down?

While not really an "amusement park" there also was Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach, not far from where the Queen Mary is today. It was an area where the "for hire" fishing boats would dock, as well as a shopping village (Hickory Farms, 3 flavors of cotton candy!!!), a restaurant, a "splatter paint" stall and several canival rides.

Enchanted Forest In Maryland Now most of the attractions are on a farm being rehabbed But I love it there it was a storybook type park.

We live near the former Enchanted Forest, and DD6 has had birthday parties and class field trips at the petting zoo where some of the (non-ride) attractions have been moved.

tmt martins, Enchanted Forest had a "sister" park called Storybook Land, in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. They're still alive and well, and we've taken DD6 there at Christmastime (when it's all lit up) the last two years. They have "kiddie" rides and nursery rhyme attractions.

Gosh I can't believe I forgot!!! We had an Enchanted Forest amusement park in Chesterton, Indiana. It was very small but a lot of fun. There is a waterpark there now!

It was a great park, you could hear the music from my cousin's back yard. I heard the indian statue from the entrance was now at the entrance of a manufactured home neighborhood. I hope to get back there and see it for old times sake!

I miss Circus World too. The Hurricane got me over my fear of coasters. My oldest DD (she's almost 6) loves elephants and would have loved to go there. She loved every minute of the circus when it came to town.

I work about 2 miles from where Lakeside was. It is now a strip mall w/ Kroger's, CVS, Subway and a great sushi/oriental restaurant. I love having all those stores near work, but I would give it up in a second if Lakeside was back. That was the best place!!! I always said I would take my kids there, but never got to. They closed due to the flood of '85 and the fact that a worker got "run over" by the roller coaster. My BF in elementary school would have her birthday party there every year, it was a blast! My DH worked there for a while during the summers he was in college and said it was a great place to work. They would sneak back in after hours and ride things.

I was thinking that Ghost Town was still open, but I could be wrong. My Grandparents used to take my cousin and myself to Land of Oz. I was so scared of the witch!! I loved going through the house after the tornado!!

I remember Belmont Park in San Diego. The old wooden rollercoaster is operating again and they have a few smaller rides, but the park is nothing like its original incarnation.
