Dedicated to Hillbeans and the post about double pierced ears

I have an aunt who is going to be eighty. She looks like she is in her sixties. She has one ear double pierced and wears two earrings daily. I have both of mine double pierced but hardly wear earrings because I do child care and earrings attracted little fingers.

Jean

It's never too late for doubles.

i have 3 ear piercings in each ear, one cartiledge piercing in my left ear and a nose piercing. i like them all. and i dont worry about the nose later on because i can always just take it out, and it will close up, i mean i might have a small dot there or something but im not going to have a large gaping whole forever.
tattoos are another story. i have not gotten one yet, but i think i will in time. i do think ahead with things like that tho, ill get it in a place that can easily be covered up in a professional setting.

I like the look. I had the 2nd hole done in my late 20's. I will be 44 in a few weeks. I go through phases where I wear both, just one set and then none! I must have missed this thread last year!

I'm 45 and have three piercings in each ear and wear earrings in all my holes.

I also have a butterfly tattoo on my right ankle.

I'll let you know in five years how I feel about all of the above. :)

One of my best friends, who is nearly 49yo, had her belly button pierced when her fiance died two years ago. She looks like she did two years ago, and she is nearly 50. I have a patient who is in her fifties who has tattoos all over. My opinion on her appearance is the same as my opinion of people with extensive tattoos in their teens or twenties. I wouldn't do it, and I think sends a message. When I was in medical school, I saw a patient whose boyfriend was so heavily tatttooed that it looked like he was wearing a shirt (a very odd looking, scary shirt). She, herself, wore a long sleeved shirt under her hospital gown to cover the scars from popping her veins from drug use, and when I was young, alot of people with lots of tattoos did it to cover that type of scar.

I double pierced my ears for my 30th b-day. I thought it cheapened the look of the original piercing and didn't it at all. I like it on others so I thought I'd like it for me but no, I did not and didn't even make it the 6 weeks! Since I cut hair for a living, I see a lot of piercing on the ears. Most of the time I like it but just not on me. However, as weird as it sounds, I'd love to have my left ear double pierced. Now why I think that wouldn't 'cheapen' the orginal look, I have no idea.

There are a lot of things that I do think are age appropriate but double piercing is not one of them.

Wow! What caused this thread to be revived after 1 year????

Yes, multi-piercing the ears is nice, isn't it?

Happy New Year, anyway.

Got the double pierced ears when I was in highschool. By the time I got to college-I stpped using the second hole and let them close up. I just lost interest in that "look" and no longer find it attractive.
As for other things-I have two small, very personal, meaningful (as well as hidden under clothes) tattoos that I feel I will not regret no matter how old I am. :)

Also, along this line of thinking...If you have your nose/belly button pierced (or tattoos) do you wonder what it will look like when you're 50+?

Hmmm. . .

I pierced my own ears with an ice cube, a potato, and a needle when I was 15. Got my ears double pierced on Jan 1, 1983 and indulged in a tatoo in June 2000 for my 50th birthday. I'm now 55 and they all pretty much look like they did when I got them. Holes are still open. . .colors on the tat haven't faded. . .nope, they still look the same .

Should I expect changes? :confused3

Yes, they're really special for the over 40s (double piercings AND a tat!)

Take care.

Ok I am 34 and I have 1 hole on the right side but 8 holes on the left side ~ 3 of which I did myself. The other 4 (the ones on the top) were done by a friend who pierces and tattoos. I also have a navel piercing and 3 tattoos. I won't regret my tattoo because 2 of them are portraits of my cats (one who has now passed away) they are on my right ankle and mostly are covered when I wear pants. My other tattoo is a tribal cat on my lower back and was my first tattoo. My mom is 58 and she got her 1st tattoo when she was over 50 (she was mad at me when I got my first tattoo at 25 telling me I would be marking my body for life ~ now she has 3 tattoos!!) I guess I should also mention that my DH has ALOT of tattoos (too many to count) and 13 earings in his left ear, none in his right.

Okay! Yes, many demure older ladies that have had a traditional appearance for decades are certainly discovering the potency of a tattoo enhancement, aren't they.

So, did you mom harrass you about your multipiercing as well? (maybe she's done it now as well....)

Why are you bumping up all these old posts??

I stopped wearing my second earrings because my second hole gets infected everytime I try to wear them. I have had mine done since I was about 16, I am 37 now and I STILL can't wear earrings in my 2nd hole. I have tried.

I'm 37 and have 3 holes in one ear and 4 in the other. I keep and diamond stud in the 4th hole and cold studs in the 2nd and 3rd ones (I change them for something special). I usually only change the 1st holes.

No I don't think it is a 'young persons thing'. My mother had a 2nd hole and still wears earrings in it and she is 60.

I agree, lots of older women are 'discovering' the multi-holes thing.
