Dedicated December Exercise Thread

I've been so terribly inconsistent this month.

I'm adding on 134 minutes over the last several days - it's mostly been walking. Today I got so sick of myself, that I put myself in time out and went for a 4 mile walk. I do love my family and the holidays, but when you're not used to spending this much time together it can be a bit much and I was turning into a total grumpy-pants.

Luckily, usually some fresh-air and a bit of sweat will help clear my head and settle my mood.

Hmack- isn't it funny what the holidays do to people? My family is very close and loves spending time together but there's just something about holidays that makes people be nuts! Thank goodness for wine. And exercise. And whatever else helps everyone get through all the special time together.....

I am so grateful for my exhausting run today. I felt more like me than I have in 15 days (the last time I ran....)

I have been walking for my exercise. Next month I have to change my routine. Maybe I will dig out some Kathy Smith videos.

Thanks everyone.

30 minute run yesterday at the beach. I can't even believe I typed that. We are usually knee deep in snow with sub zero temps but it's just been gorgeous all week!

Yay, I hit goal! I did 55 minutes today of strength training.

So this last week has been food, wine, exercise, repeat (not necessarily in that order lol, exercising right after wine wouldn't be a good idea haha!). I'm gonna need a complete detox after the new year lol.

So a question for everyone...I'm sure we all over indulge over the holidays. It's only human nature to do so and I believe everyone should indulge at times like this...holidays and when away on vacation. How do you all detox afterwards? Do you just go back to eating healthy? Avoid certain foods and beverages? Do a true body cleanse or detox? Most times, I just stay more conscious of my food choices and try to really minimize things like white flour and refined sugars, and focus mainly on fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats, with a good balance of them all. And of course drink plenty of water and exercise. I've also tried the shakeology 3-day cleanse, which incorporates 3 shakeology shakes per day plus some fruits and also a large salad for dinner with either grilled chicken or fish and olive oil and vinegar. Over the summer when we returned from WDW, I did the 3-day quick fix from the 21-day fix, in which you eat 6 times per day, roughly every two hours. It starts in the morning we steel cut oatmeal and egg whites , and throughout the day it's mainly chicken, fish and steamed veggies (although the second meal includes steamed sweet potatoes instead of veggies). Lots of water too of course. Keeps you full all day and definitely gets rid of excess water weight, plus gets you on the right track to healthy eating. I don't like super low calorie plans that don't incorporate solid food as a cleanse. I need a balance where I feel well the whole time, I don't feel like I'm starving and I don't gain weight immediately when stopping the detox. That defeats the purpose and wrecks the metabolism. I refuse to ever go below 1200 calories. I make sure even on these detox plans, even though it's only three days, not to go below 1200.

I can't wait to detox ( I'm drinking my second beer and waiting for my pizza delivery as I type this, ha). I will probably go vegan for January to get back on track. Limit processed foods and add plenty of water and tea. I'm already ready vegetarian, have been for 25+ years so vegan for a month hete or there isn't too tough.

16 minutes for me today ... puts me at:

858/1000

It's great to see people hitting their goals - I hope to see more people do that over the next few days. Congrats!

Finally updated again! Sorry for being MIA the last week but Christmas got a wee bit busy. We had a great holiday though and it's back to work tomorrow. Time to get back on track!

Team Goal – 15575!!
Team Progress – 11496/15575 = 73.8%

It doesn't look like we are going to make goal this month but we'll come very close and in December that's a pretty good end to the year!! Any volunteers to host January??

Good morning!

Adding on 60 minutes from yesterday

795/1000

I don't do a specific detox/cleanse. I guess that I just try to listen to the part of my brain that's craving 'the good stuff'. I know that when I get really tired and cranky for no good reason that I am probably running way too low on the 'good stuff' - vitamins and water. So that's when it's time to eat some unprocessed veggies and fruit that aren't being drenched in sauce, cheese or dip. It also means it's time to carry around a water bottle and work on rehydrating. If I'm fully hydrated - I usually feel a million times better.

24th 30 min run
26th 258 min run
27th 60 min walking
28th 30 min walking
29th 30 min run

Brings me to 1293/1400
It's going to be close on making my goal this month.

Adding on 58 minutes from yesterday - a short run followed by some yoga.

853/1000

I may not meet the goal but I'm determined to finish the month strong!

GO TEAM!!!

30 minutes of Pilates yesterday and 40 minutes of weight lifting today.

DS7 got the stomach virus again. I can't take this. My sister, one of her daughters and her baby son all had it the other day. Bleach and Lysol are my best friends right now, along with soap and water. My dad had it last night.

DH and I are going to see a broadway show today, You Can't Take It With You. Supposed to be very funny and stars James Earl Jones. The boys are staying at my parents. DH and I are also going to see the tree at rockefeller center. At least some happy things in the middle of this craziness.

This has been some break so far...hopefully the second half is much better. Tomorrow is my nephew's first bday and we will be by my sister for that and New Year's Eve. Saturday is his big party with 60 people! Sunday we take my mom out for her 65th which is on Monday. Happy times ahead make me feel much better despite what has been going on with this terrible virus. Still bracing myself but praying I don't get it.

Oh dear only have 360 more to add since last posting at the gym. PHysical Therapy for a longstanding knee issue starts next week.

Hope you don't get this twice, it disappeared. I am trying to post this again....but want to make sure to wish all a happy, healthy and wealthy 2015!
