Dedicated December Exercise Thread

And the kids always open one present each, and it's always new pajamas that they wear to bed that night.

We get the kids new pj's every year too and so far I've been able to find matching ones for a photo session in front of the tree. It's getting harder to find ones that match in both their sizes but this year I not only found matching ones for them but I found a pair for my 2 year old niece! I can't wait until the three of them are together for a photo!

One other tradition that has stood the test of time, is we each save a couple of gifts to open Christmas night. My mother can not believe that we (especially the kids when they were younger) have the willpower to wait to open everything! But, it gives us something to look forward to and makes the magic last all day. So Christmas night, we have the fire going, open the saved presents and then my husband reads the Christmas story from the book of Luke while we have hot chocolate.

I love this! I wonder if I can convince my kids to save a couple of presents for the evening!

30 minutes of cardio that I managed to squeeze in after going to Wizard of Oz rehearsal yesterday. Today DS9 joins the cast for a full run through of the show, his last rehearsal before dress rehearsal on Tuesday. The show opens in 6 days, I can't believe it! Trial makeup is already happening...tried out tin man the other day and trying out scarecrow today. Coming out awesome, can't wait! :)

My daughter is playing The Ghost of Christmas Past in the Christmas Carol this year and I can't wait to see it. It's her first play :) I can't wait to hear all about how your son does!

I could use a serious dose of holiday spirit. It would probably help if I put away my fall/Thanksgiving decorations. Good-bye to orange and earth tones and hello to red and green and lights, maybe this weekend.

I'm going to decorate this weekend too! Every year I get annoyed because my advent calendar is with our Christmas decorations and we don't get the up until about now (or later!) so we miss the first couple of days. This year we bought a lego one so I didn't have to think about it or wait for the decorations but it didn't help because it's sitting in my craft room unopened!

I got on the treadmill and my plan was to walk and do hill intervals, a nice lunch break workout. not too sweaty but not a walk in the park either.

And then a college kid gets on the treadmill beside me and I don't know what happened.

I started feeling competitive with a 20 something guy, who probably (let's be honest) barely even noticed my existence. There were a million totally rational reasons why I should have just stayed on track and completed the workout I had planned. but noooo.... I decided to see if I could "race" him on the treadmill and keep up with his speed. bottom line - I'm an idiot. Once the treadmills hit 8.5 mph I was cooked and sweaty. Good thing I gave up, he went all the way to 11 mph. If I had tried that, I probably would have flied off the treadmill.

LOL that's hilarious and totally sounds like something I would do.

Updated to here!

We have two people who joined the blue team: 2TxAgs and swissfamilyrobinson and one who bailed on the blue and joined the orange team: Tasha228! MRS AR and Zoesmama03 didn't even check out the blue they just went straight to Team Orange!

I'm counting 60 minutes from yesterday even though I didn't do an actual workout because I was on my feet all day getting things ready for the big event and I logged 11.605 steps on my fitbit! That brings me to 310/1575

300/1000
I pushed hard this week. I did a little strength training and a lot of walking.

270/1000

Adding in a total of 125 minutes. 60 minutes of strength training yesterday and 65 minutes this morning of cardio and abs.

I weighed myself yesterday morning, expecting again of 2 or 3 pounds because of thanksgiving last weekend, and the fact the we did thanksgiving again with my nieces last Sunday. I only gained 1 pound and I was happy. I really was dreading getting on the scale but I'm glad I did. It keeps me in check when I weigh myself weekly. How often do you all weigh yourselves, if ever?

I know some people that only egg weighed at their annual physical, and just go by how their clothes fit. I could never be like that, I wish I could sometimes lol. Once a week for me, that way it keeps me in check but I don't obsess which would definitely happen if I got on the scale daily.

I could never go by once a year either. I weigh myself each morning. It helps me keep myself in check. When I'm trying to lose, I also try on a pair of pants that I'm trying to fit into, so I can see the progress that way as well. I only do that weekly. If I'm REALLY determined, I also take measurements once a month.

I did 30 min on the treadmill today. It's been a really weird week. I felt rundown and overwhelmed and couldn't get energy to do anything except the minimum (work, feed the kiddo, etc). But today we are almost done decorating and I needed a break so I had a little jog. I feel so much better in all ways.

100/1000

(I've really gotta step it up!)

455/1500
45 min elliptical last night
30 min walking pup this morning
Thanks. :)

60 minutes of strength training today and some extra stretching. That's it for me until a week from today. I'm excited for Wizard of Oz this week. Tomorrow and Tuesday are dress rehearsals and I'm doing makeup and hair. I've done a couple of trials already for scarecrow and tin man and have to make a couple of minor changes, but I'm doing it again tomorrow and Tuesday so we will be good to go. Wednesday morning is a preview show for some elementary schools that are coming to us on a class trip to see part of the show. And Wednesday afternoon the show officially opens. 5 shows...Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday night, Saturday matinee and Saturday night. I don't know how these kids do it...and they get really high grades in their classes too! I'm so proud of everything they do. My son is very excited that the show is this week and that he is a munchkin. He's taking this very seriously. Too cute! :)

I love reading everybody's traditions. So much fun!!! :surfweb: Had to go way back to page 2 to get caught up! What on earth have I been doing to keep me away?! :confused3

I weigh myself every week on Saturday morning. A few weeks ago I hopped on the scale then 2 hours later hopped on the doctor's digital scale (turns out I had strep throat) and had gained 10 pounds! That's when the nurse told me that she never gets on the doctor's scale because she said it is so wrong. She weighs herself every Sunday and gives them that weight. Guess what I am now doing?! :rotfl: But just to double check next time I went to the Y I hopped on their old school weights scale and only weighed 2 pounds more--that's with sneakers & coat on, phone, wallet and keys in my pocket.

In one week ds2 will be 18! :scared1: We gave him one present last night. It was a new flute. He was pretty excited. This morning an ensemble he's in performs at church so we thought he might use it. Can't wait to see if anyone notices! He said the tone is a bit different so he brought his old one just in case.

DH and I need to write our Christmas newsletter, hopefully today. We don't do cards, just a letter. This will be our 28th edition!

Have a super week! :wizard:

45 min track workout for me today. I haven't been out on the track for months - mostly running on the trail and treadmill because the track is always so busy with high school teams. Not so on this December Sunday! Had it all to myself and did some interval work to try to burn off some of that holiday stress and calories!

10 days left until our surprise Disney trip!!! I have so much to do but I'm so excited to surprise DS. DH and I are having so much fun planning it and even though it means we have to squish all the other holiday preparations in early, we are ok with that. It's worth it to us to have the long weekend of just our nuclear family before the holiday gatherings happen. And in Disney! Yeah!!!

How do u all count exercise minutes in WDW? I was thinking I would take a guesstimate of the mileage we walked and then use that times the pace I would normally run or walk to come up w my minutes for this board. Like if its 6 miles and 6 miles usually takes me an hour to run, or 90 min to walk then I will count it as 60 or 90 min for the day? Thoughts? However... Maybe I should deduct for the obscene amount of cookies I've been eating as I baked this weekend.... :)

I'm a bit disappointed in myself exercise wise this weekend.

Just 40 minutes overall

198/1000

In other news, we cut down our tree today, which makes me very happy. I think that one of my most favorite things about the holidays is the lights. I love getting up in the morning and turning on the Christmas tree lights. It almost (almost) makes me ok with it being dark so much of the day.

25 minutes pilates ... not a super active weekend, but it's certainly better than nothing (and I know I'm always more active during the week anyway)

250/1000

201/1200

Walking at the soccer fields and with the pooch. Not a lot, but I feel like my body is wanting to be rested, so I'm trying to listen. Started sneezing and a bit of a runny nose, so maybe a cold coming on....????

Y'all are always an inspiration and I look forward to reading all your posts. LOVED the competition with the young stud on the treadmill, hmack! :rotfl:

MRS AR - seeing your running numbers (258 minutes!!) is inspiring and truly amazing. Good for you!

figment - how fun to be planning a surprise trip! When I travel, I count exercise minutes based on how much effort vs how much waiting and stopping I did. Since you're doing this just for you, I think you count what YOU believe is a fair number.

Linda - happy bday to your kid! Mine just turned 20...where did the time go?

bangzoom - have an amazing week with your play!

dizzyr - thanks for keeping us in line!

No decorations up at my house yet, so I decided to bring my holiday colors to this thread! :goodvibes

The only "exercise" I got in on Saturday was bowling. Tonight walked 30 minutes. So brings me up to 190/600.

Hello everyone! I've been MIA so far this month as we got through our Nutcracker performances. All went fabulously, but between rehearsals, 6 performances, and a cast party for 3 dd's I pretty much shut down the rest of my life around this time of year! This year was particularly crazy though, because my Girls on the Run team also finished up their season and ran their 5K on Saturday morning and I took charge of decorating the cast party for 100 dancers and their families. Not my best planned year!!! But, it all worked out! ;)

I did get in a little exercise! Managed a 60 minute walk one day, and a 60 minute step/abs workout another day. I'm also counting the 30 minute run that my friend and I did to get more salad in the middle of the cast party last night! That should get me on the board with 150/900.

I've enjoyed catching up and reading everyone's holiday traditions! So many great one!! This was our 5th Nutcracker - so this crazy first week of December starts off the season for us every year. Another tradition we have is collecting silver bells. My husband and I purchased our first silver bell together when we were dating. Now, we have about 23 years of silver bells in our collection! Each one different. When the kids move out, we will be able to have a tree entirely decorated in silver bells!

75 minute yoga class tonight. Ah! As for weighing myself, I want to do it once a week. I'd rather focus on my fitness than play Russian roulette with the scale BUT the scale always wins out and I end up weighing myself about 3X a week.
