Never considered the heaviness of hanging a 6X9 rug on the wall. Maybe you should consider the PPs suggesiton of getting 3 or 4 smaller rugs (like 2x3) and "grouping" them to give the illusion of a large rug wall hanging.
Also, in looking at your space again, it strikes me that it's very white. Almost overwhelmingly white. I know it's a rental, but if your landlord isn't opposed, would you consider painting? Paint is a relatively inexepnsive way to change the look of a room, and fairly easy to "fix" after you, as a renter, leave.
The room seems a bit monochromatic to me. Lots of white, beige, dark gray/black. A PP suggested punching it up with some color and I think I am starting to agree. How about painting the flat walls a light green and the angled walls and alcove spaces a deeper green? Find some wall hangings (rugs, quilts whatever) with green and terracotta in them, some green and terracotta pillows for your furniture. Maybe do your gallery wall thing but have some of the frames be black and some be darker green???
