I was wondering how many of you decorate your villa at Christmas? My kids want to put up some decorations while we are there, but since we are flying, we don’t have much room to take things. We went to the store last night and got a 2’ Christmas tree and a set of lights and spent all of $3. Can we hang lights out on the balcony? Maybe I should go and get one of those 8” tall inflatable Pooh Bears and put that out there. Now that would be showing the Christmas and Disney spirit at the same time!

There was another post on this a while back but I couldn't do the search so here's what we are doing:

We purchased a 3' tree with lights already on it. We also have some lights for our balcony. I was told that you can decorate the balcony and that many people do. I have heard both that the balconies have electrical outlets and they don't, so we are bringing a lead just in case. We are also going to bring a few special items from room to decorate the villa. Not sure yet whether we will ship the stuff down be fed ex so that it arrives the day after we do or not yet. As we get closer, we will decide that one.

We plan to go all out with a 4ft tree, lights, stockings, other misc. decorations....I plan on shipping them to the resort prior to our arrival..That way I shouldn't have to worry to much about their arrival...

I also wanted to know if there is a light outside each room door at VWL so that we may hang a small wreath or something. With us only being there two nights I wnated to do soemthing small.
Thanks!

Brisully and I (mostly Brian) decorated the balcony of the studio that we shared at BCV last December. Barb (for real) also decorated her balcony. This was early in December and, by the time we all checked out, there were quite a few more people who were decorating their rooms.

We had to run an extention cord through the open sliding glass door in order to get power to the lights.

We put up a long tube light on the balcony railing at OKW when we were there in Dec. '01, and I am 99% certain that there was an outlet out on the balcony. It was quite festive, though we didn't see many others with lights - this was the week before Christmas week.

On this thread http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=466202&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 I posted that we decorate a real tree while at OKW during our Christmas vacation. I thought you should know that I recently called OKW to check on the current policy and was told by Joya, the OKW Guest Service Manager, that real trees are not allowed at OKW due to safety concerns. She did not comment on the other DVC resorts and I did not ask.

She conceded that guests have in the past been allowed to have real trees but that was due to inconsistent information being provided to guests.

I'm very dissapointed about this but...safety first.

We have decorated the balcony at OKW for several years now and there is an outlet, you may need an extentsion cord to reach the lights on the railing. We also bring down a small artifical tree and hang a wreath on the door, you need a magnetic hanger for the front door as they our metal doors.
