I want to decorate our room for my daughters birthday. I am making banner/streamers to go from one side of the room to the other and possibly hang lanterns.

Obviously I don't want to do anything to hurt the walls in our room.

Does anyone have any safe ideas on how to hang the decorations? We are not going until November but I am trying to get everything planned since that will be a crazy time of year.

For my daughters birthday I bought some of the stick-on wall Mickey and Princess decorations from walmart. They went on the wall and off without any damage. You find all kinds in the section for decorating bedroom walls. As for the streamers you could use blu-tack or a pack of the stick-on/pull-off wall hangers that you can buy for college bedroom walls. They really don't pull up the plaster or the paint when they come off. I have also used those for my sons dorm room, but never at WDW. Best of luck!

Both of those things leave a residue on the wall that will effect them when repainted.

You could safety pin them to the top of curtains or use clothes pins or biner clips to attach.

Try painter's tape. My DD loves to tack stuff up on our home walls and that's what I let her use.

I've used the vinyl decals a lot (in multiple rooms in multiple houses) as well as the 3M command adhesives and have never had issue repainting or getting them off walls. Those are what I'd use, or the blue tacky stuffy, or painter's tape.

We got some window clings for the window when we went in February for DD's birthday. I think the pp's suggestion about clipping to the curtains is good. Just FYI--we were staying at POP and the wall was sort of textured and the painters tape I brought to hang a banner wouldn't stick to it.

Thank you for all of your help! I would love for the ideas to keep coming.

At this point I guess I will take everything.

Will your room have a ceiling fan? That could put a crimp in the streamers real quick!

I don't know that I would even attempt streamers. You could use binder clips or safety pins to attach items to the curtains, you could get window clings to put on mirrors and windows/sliding doors and magnets for the room door. Tie bunches of balloons together with thread and make a loop that you can drape on the corner of picture frames. None of these items have any adhesive or residue of any kind.

That would be my suggestion as well.
And yep, a ceiling fan is going to have a hugely negative impact on streamers!!!

How about balloons and a few Disney character toys? Birthday ears?

I think that would be a great idea. Send dad and the kids off to the pool and do some window clings and some balloons.

Also when we surprised a five year old last year to a trip to Disney World with a build-a-bear that said she was going to the World. Do one wishing her a happy birthday.

Believe me, I work in Facilities Management and there are birthday celebrations, but stringing stuff up with tape just gives us major heartburn.

We are staying at POR so I think I will take the safety pin advice. I will safety pin from curtain by windo to curtain that closes around bathroom.

Thanks for all your help
