"Decline Magic Band" option now available?

All of your MBs from previous trips still connected to your MDE account will still work without needing to be "activated."
This. You have to deliberately go in and deactivate them in order for them not to work (unless you have too many active at a time--that can cause problems). I'd assume the "decline" option is connected to being an AP holder?

The criteria I posted earlier apply to everyone - not just AP holders. If you have an active band that is less than a year old for a resort reservation you will have the option to decline

So, I'm assuming the only incentive to decline is if you already have one (or many)? I'd consider it if they gave a credit for declining them (like a room credit or food credit or something)... otherwise why not let them send it?... you can still ask for a KTTW card if you don't want to wear it...

Considering it is free to you, there is nothing to credit. It would be like turning down a free sample, but expecting a coupon for the value of the sample to use elsewhere.

The reason for declining would be because you already have one or more. AP holders from outside of central FL who stay on property (say for extended weekends a few times a year) don't need 5 sets of bands each year.
Plus I'm sure the environmental team had some input based on the fact that new bands = "trashing" the old ones which is not environmentally sound.

That example doesn't make sense to me. It's not "free" because 1-they build it into the cost of the package, and 2-they actually really do have a monetary value (about 15 bucks plus the cost of shipping).

I'm under the assumption that basically Disney has come to the conclusion that they can maybe cut costs by not making it mandatory per package... I'm just saying to get the reduced numbers they're probably looking for, they need to add a little more incentive for me to decline (e.g. $10 room credit per declined MB.. that way they end up saving about $5 for each MB... plus the shipping rate... quid pro quo)

My band will be over two years old for our next trip in January and I have an option to decline a new one.

A gal on another forum did it. No big deal. It just means you won't have a new band shipped to you for that particular reservation. As long as you have at least one other band active, you don't really need another band. The bands stay active until they are manually disactivated. You have to do that manually through the website. I have active bands already so I'm on my way to use it as soon as I post this...

I'm still going to get a new one, because I put my name and date on the back for a keepsake, but I have the Olaf band from last year that I am going to use again....I hope!
What a great Idea, sorry I didn't think about this 5 trips ago. But will start now, thanks.

I saw this option this morning and I declined our MBs for our Oct trip. We already have multiple bands in multiple colors. I'm really glad Disney added this option.

I believe this has just as much to do with people disliking the technology behind the bands. The bands have a pretty big range for transmission and pick up and they store a lot of information about you including bank information if stored. People already have the technology to intercept these types of signals and download information from them.

No, they do NOT store anything about the wearer.

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

A MagicBand just contains (and weakly "transmits") a unique serial number that is used to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number) to access the info in your MDE file.

Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.

So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each of them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed from your MDE account when needed.

Why does this distinction matter?
Because there is so much fear about losing bands and,
in turn, losing all of a guest's information thought to be on the band.

Not ready to begin declining mine yet. We need enough to make our 30 day countdown chain with! :lovestruc:lovestruc

You're right and I didn't really mean contained on the band itself but to your point it contains the access information which is really all someone would need. In terms of the strength of the transmission yes it is weak compared to what they are capable of but the fact that they can link them to cameras on the rides means it isn't just transmitting to the area right up against the band. While someone would have to scan the bands and access Disney's systems to match what they collect from the MB it's not outside of the realm of possibilities.

Mining codes from MagicBands would not yield anything profitable.
It would make much more sense for thieves just to directly hack a central database and steal banking and credit card information from the files.

On our last trip we were talking to a CM about being able to decline the bands. We had all the colors so we just got the gray ones and then did not accept them upon arrival and they were able to keep them. They said that they were waiting until the bands were 2 years old to make declining an option. They had no idea how long the battery life of the bands were and wanted to make sure they were at least 2 years.

I'm glad we have the option. I try to be "green" when I can. Now if Disney would sell some kind of scan bar to attach to their mugs so I don't need to buy a new one every time. I hate throwing them away but I can only use so many at home!

Was just customizing our magic bands, and underneath where it says "magic band pending," there a link that says "Decline Magic Band."

I haven't seen this before!

Here's our current situation:
AP
4 reservations linked

Anyone seen or used the decline option before?!

Thank you for posting! I just cancelled our for our next 2 visits!

DH and I have over 30 MB each. It was always a problem until we starting deactivating a good chunk of them before leaving. So glad we can start declining them now!

You can now bring your old drink mugs back to have them reactivated. As long as they are the newer mugs with the chip on the bottom. Just understand Disney does not offer a discount for doing so and will charge you just as if you got a new mug.

Glad to see this.
I plan on getting one new one a year and taking some older ones of different colors.
I will decline the rest. Already declined 3. We do split stays a lot, so they add up.
