Which would you pick? I booked Category 4A yesterday, deck 10, room 10568. I was so excited until I started reading some reviews of the noise overhead from the pools and some partial shading on the veranda from an overhand. I am seriously considering calling to see if Deck 9 is available. Would this change my category? I would still want the deluxe family with a veranda. Help! So confused now!

Do not change its a great room, great location, and yes you get a flight overhang that nice shade will come in very handy I assure you, as for the deck noise people occasionally report it but it is not significant and other rooms have there issues from bars, engines vibrations, so do not over sorry it's not an issue they would bother you, the noise if any us limited to deck parties.

Well this makes me feel better. I should probably stop reading room reviews. On my first Disney Cruise on the Magic, we ended up on the 1st floor (never again!). I had read all the reviews and people really seemed to like it down there. This time, I booked what I wanted…I wanted to be on a high floor in the middle of the ship. I didn't think about noise, shade, etc. Some reviews say it's SUPER noisy, and some say they don't notice it at all. I guess the moral is that these are all so subjective. I don't think a little muffled noise would bother us. We have stayed in the CR tower MANY times and never noticed monorail or CM noise, for example, and I've read reviews saying that they wouldn't stay in the CR because it's so noisy.

Anyway…maybe I will just leave it. It CANNOT be worse than the 1st floor, so I am sure I'll be happy there :)

There is a tendency here for some people to try to get a reaction by overstating issues, I have stayed in many rooms which are just under the pool deck, and do have said there is a noise issue, and we personally have never ever been troubled.

I will state at this point, my private heel theatre checks say I have perfect heating, and I am a light sleeper, we live in a quiet location with no through traffic so would be noise sensitive.

No room on the ship is any worse than any other, I have read people posting they were exposed to hurricane snoring next door, how can you stop that? It's random and any room could suffer.

Some rooms are next to laundry with heat and noise, some above or below bars on lower decks, some near elevators, or where children congregate.

IMHO the posts re noise on rooms below pool decks is greatly overstated snd worry people people too much.

Do not worry.

If people complain they hear the noise of a deck party, then (1) your on the wrong ship, (2) why are you not at the deck party? Yes you will hear some noise from a deck party but is over very quickly, the same as a lower deck room under a MDR the noise will stop when the MDR closes.

You have booked an excellent room do not read any more reviews, relax and enjoy that cruise!

While I don't think the noise is much of an issue, we personally didn't like staying on deck 10 because of the over hang. It could be nice in the rain, I remember not being able to look up and see the moon. Also, we like to enjoy the fireworks from our balcony and you could not see the fireworks.

So don't move because of the noise, but realize you are under an overhang which can have benefits and drawbacks.

Im going to take the opposite position. I said this in another thread recently.....my first cruise was last November on the Dream. We sprung for 4A and were booked on deck 10...that is, until I read (here actually) about the noise from the pool deck. To play it safe, I dropped us into a stateroom on deck 9. I will never be able to tell you if the noise from deck 11 was a problem on deck 10....but I've read enough complaints that it is (and an equal amount that says it isn't - I just wasn't willing to take the chance considering the cost of cruising)

However, when we first walked into our room on deck 9 last year, I was instantly reassured that I made the right choice. To me, the overhang is a significant drawback and on deck 10 it will block your view of the sky. Yes, it will provide shade. But you will not be able to see the stars or a large portion of the sky from your veranda. To me, the stars (which I don't remotely see enough of in light-polluted Long Island) are more important than some shade. That's why we have sunglasses! ;) :cool1:

Regardless, I'm sure both deck 9 and deck 10 will be good choices. You just have to decide whether a better viewing angle of the sky is important to you. It was to me.

Just some random thoughts. There's no difference in cost between deck 9 and 10. They're both 4a. Also, afaik, all of the category 4's are deluxe family verandas. The difference between a and e is the deck you're on. 4a is deck 9&10, 4b is deck 8, 4c is deck 7, 4d is deck 6 and 4e is deck 5. So the size of the room won't change, just how high up you are. 9 is quite high. So's 8. Even 7.

Also, don't forget the importance of where your room is on the deck. How close are you to the elevators? How close are you to high traffic areas? If you're on deck 10, do you want to be under cabanas or the pool deck? (I'm guessing here, but a room on deck 10 that's under the adult section (Closer to the bow) might be quieter...

We stayed in one of the balcony rooms on deck 10 facing the aft of the ship (can't remember exact room number). I kept reading reviews of the noise from Cabana's and the motors of the ship while docking at Castaway Cay. So - what did I do? I listened hard for those noises. Did I hear them? Yup. Did the rest of my family - who had not read the reviews - hear them? Nope. So, my point is whether I purposely looked for those noises because I was expecting them. I wonder, and now will never know, if I hadn't read the reviews if I would have noticed them as much. Sometimes the reviews are great if there is something you are trying to avoid like distance to the elevators for example. But, the location on the ship, the proximity to the pools, basketball court and sports deck and to the restaurants all made up for the mostly minimal noise.

We've stayed on both decks 9 and 10 more than once each. Overall we will pick deck 9. Yes, when we sailed on deck 10 we did hear some noise from the pool deck but I wouldn't call it a deal breaker. However we also didn't care for the overhang shadowing our veranda so the two of these things together are why we opt for deck 9 now.

However, that doesn't mean we will avoid deck 10 if its a better price/cabin.

We have stayed on both deck 9 and 10 and if I had choice I'd go with deck 9. If it wasn't available I'd still do deck 10 over other decks. I'm not a light sleeper by any means but I will say that in the mornings, if you are midship, you will hear them putting chairs and tables out. Its not necessarily that 'loud' but it is 'consistent'.

Deck 9 is somewhat the best of both worlds, its close to the upper decks while still being not so far away from the lower deck night time activities and dinners. The elevators at midship can get pretty busy at peak times so walking the stairs becomes an easier option from deck 9 sometimes.

So people will think I am crazy, but I did it. I switched to Deck 9, room 9574. It wasn't the noise so much, but when I actually googled the veranda view from deck 10, I really didn't like that overhang jutting out. I thank all of you for your advice! And p.s. The reviews for this room are all positive so far!

I am on the mirror opposite room, 10158 in a few weeks, the verandah is HUGE, I can't wait to experience it, being a city gal, and the fact that both my daughter and I are heavy sleepers, I'm sure it won't bother us.

On the flip side, since I am a heavy sleeper, getting a little noise in the morning might be a good "wake up" call.:)

Just so everyone is aware, you are not supposed to be on your balcony during the fireworks and you receive notice in your stateroom to that effect. If something goes wrong and you have chosen to be out there, the ship and company will not be liable as you were provided warning and notice.

We stayed in 9554 at absolutely LOVED it, so I'm sure you will be happy with your choice!

Why risk it? You are getting the same room without the risk of noise. We stayed in 9590 on the Dream we dropped down from deck 10 once we read reviews and we were very happy. I can't tell you if we would have been unhappy on 10 but there wasn't any noise on 9.

I don't think you are crazy at all. I did the exact same thing you did for the exact same reason. I went to YouTube and saw some reviews for deck 10 rooms and and noticed the partially obstructed view from the overhang. For me personally it wasn't my preference and we went with deck #9.

I was on deck 9 on the Dream and I loved it since I had rooms above and below. The only noise were people moving chairs and tables around on their verandah, but I was guilty of doing that, too.

Thanks for resurrecting this zombie thread and making me think of happy times!

We did indeed go with deck 9 on the Dream since this thread first appeared, as well as deck 9 on the Fantasy. We are deck 9 people through and through from now on! :goodvibes
