Deck 8 Non-Concierge Family Verandah Staterooms on Magic Class?

For our 2021 Magic cruise, the only deluxe family verandah staterooms available are on deck 8. Is this always the case, or is this just due to high booking levels and this cruise having much of that category sold out?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for good non-concierge deck 8 family verandah staterooms? I'm looking to avoid overhead noise, and to avoid food odors from Cabanas, etc.

Correct. All of the Category 4 rooms on the Magic/Wonder are on deck 8. The midship rooms are concierge.

I’ll let someone with direct experience with these rooms answer the second part.

I believe several staterooms on deck 8 will be reclassified from category 4A to concierge category V in the upcoming dry dock.

What happens if you are already booked into that stateroom? Do you magically become concierge? Or will the room just look a bit different, while you remain non-concierge?

The Magic is scheduled for dry dock in Cadiz , Spain from 18 September to 1 October 2020. The following rooms
8026, 8028, 8036, 8038, 8040, 8042, 8526, 8528, 8536, 8538, 8540, and 8542 are being changed from Category 4A, Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah to Category V, Concierge Family Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah .

If you have booked a room which was Category 4A at the time of booking, then when you actually check in and go on your cruise you should be concierge at no extra charge.

The forward Category 4 rooms are under the adult pool and the spa, so they would be the best choice if you want to avoid food odors and minimize noise from above. My family was in 8002 last summer. My daughter particularly enjoyed being able to see the bridge from our veranda — the captain waved at her a few times.

We had 8560 last year and it was great-About halfway between midship and aft elevators. We never noticed any noise from above. We also had 8528 this year on the wonder which is concierge but also did not hear any noise.

We've done 4 sailings on Magic/Wonder on deck 8. Rooms 8520 (twice), 8036, and 8538. To address your original questions: we've not had many problems with overhead noise (sporadic running at night but nothing significant) and never had food smells from Cabanas (nor BBB for those who remember the old name).

When they announced the change, they made it so that any future bookings in the system after the dry dock date in those rooms would be sold as Cat V, at concierge rates. You only had the ability to book them at non-concierge rates if you happened to book prior to the announcement.

Anyone else have stateroom suggestions for deck 8?

Have you looked at the Dis reviews? I find it is easier to start by looking at what rooms are available on the cruise you want and then checking the reviews. Unfortunately, pretty much anywhere on deck 8 is going to be subject to some overhead noise--the quietest rooms on a ship generally have staterooms above and below which is not possible on deck 8. https://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-cruise-line/disney-magic-room-reports.cfm

I also don't know you are set on the Magic, but the Dream/Fantasy have staterooms for 5 on many floors of the ship.

Yes, thanks. I have checked, but those reviews are old and limited, so I thought I'd ask here, too. We are set on the Magic for scheduling & itinerary reasons. We'll probably just stick with the deck 7 cat 5 we already have- I just thought it might be nice to upgrade to cat 4 to have a bigger room & so my son could sleep on the murphy bed (he likes that for the a.m. view, & it leaves the couch available for sitting), but a lot of deck 8 rooms do have noise issues, apparently, and having several of the best ones being turned into concierge staterooms doesn't help. I wouldn't mind a bit of noise so much if the upgrade cost wasn't so steep in this case. I might try to nab a cat 4 upgrade at the port, for a bit less. We'll see.

I was about to recommend this. Often, I will google something like "(Ship name) (room number)" and that'll pull up any reviews/videos/etc that mention that room from anywhere on the web. So you can do that with whatever cabins are available to help you decide.

But that was the only bad deck 8 room we’ve had on multiple cruises on deck 8 on the classic ships. We never really appreciated that much noise from deck chairs or people... just those darn hot tub motors!
