Which one would you choose?
On the Magic Deluxe Oceanview on Deck 2 or spend $300 more to be on deck 5?
I think I've read about loud noises on Deck 2 while docking? Maybe I'm remembering wrong?
We're looking at the 7 day Western so...

1 Port Canaveral, Florida — 4:00 p.m.
2 Key West, Florida 12:30 p.m. 5:45 p.m. We'd be up WAY before docking, I've got a 2 and 5 yr old. Sleeping in is 8am.
3 At Sea — —
4 Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands* 7:30 a.m. 4:15 p.m. We'd be tendered here, so no docking noise right?
5 Cozumel, Mexico 10:30 a.m. 6:30 p.m. Could be an issue? I'm assuming we'd be docking 9am, but I'm not sure how early they come into port.
6 At Sea — —
7 Castaway Cay 9:30 a.m. 4:45 p.m. If the noise is a real issue, then we'd probably be woken up early right?
8 Port Canaveral, Florida 7:30 a.m. —

Any help would be appreciated!

Deck 5 is far far better in the middle of the ship away from the vibration of the engines and the sea.

On a 7 night cruise and with two sea days you will get the benefit of that better Cat.

I was on the Magic summer 2014 for 12 nights, when we were on the lower decks yes there was some engine noise and also noise when docking and leaving, you could hear it loud in Animators and Cariocas on deck 3/4 aft when leaving port.

$300 is nothing for that cruise over 7 nights, $50 a day!!! Worth it.

Yes see the ship, use the pools.

3 At Sea — —

Lay in? or pools?

Correct, less docking noise but tender boats coming up against deck 1. Depends on the side.

5 Cozumel, Mexico 10:30 a.m. 6:30 p.m. Could be an issue? I'm assuming we'd be docking 9am, but I'm not sure how early they come into port.

You will be arriving around 10.30am not before.

Lay in?

Most people are up and at Cabanas and having breakfast watching the ship dock they do use a lot of thrust to dock.

For the first time this past Feb. we stayed on Deck 5 and I have to say we were a bit concerned with the kids club and all, but it was great. Nice and quiet. We were traveling with our 2 grandkids, it was so convenient with the clubs being right there. You won't be disappointed at all.

I have never stayed on deck 2 so I can't offer any opinions on that.

Agree the kids club actually keeps it quiet, the centre of the ship is a great place to be.

I am biased to the mid ship also, I heard it helped with the seasickness so thats why I chose it the first time and now its a must for us.
Not just for the sickness, we just like to be there now.

We've stayed on deck 2 aft (way aft, the 2nd to the last room) and it was very noisy and vibrated a lot during docking). Midship deck 2 was great when we stayed there on the wonder. Not a lot of noise or motion.

Our most recent room was deck 5 forward (most rooms on 5 are forward or aft since the clubs and theater are midship). On deck 5 forward we could hear the Walt Disney Theater. We could hear it quite well. They were doing a lot of rehearsals and sound checks also so it wasn't just the main nightly shows. With that being said, our next 2 cruises we are on deck 5 again.

I have stayed in the Wonder in 2564, 2077 and 5022. All three cabins were great. I would not pay 300$ more just to be on deck 5. From deck 5 it is still quite a climb up to deck 9, so depending on your fitness level, you might still be using the elevators. The advantage on deck 2 when getting an elevator is that it arrives empty. Deck 2 is convenient for the restaurants and the theatre.

Neither of the two deck 2 cabins I had had any noise issues. You can always check room reports here on the DIS to see if someone mentioned docking noise about the specific cabin. I loved 2564 as it was so close to the midship elevators, but also very quiet at the same time!

I personally would pick deck 2 over deck 5 any day. We have stayed midship and aft, and have never had any sound issues at all. I love staying near the aft elevators on deck 2. It's so handy to be able to go straight up to deck 11 for the drink stations, and you can go straight down one flight of stairs to get off at port, and no waiting around for the elevator when you get back onboard as one flight up and your there. $300 more for deck 5 is a really good deal, but I personally would stick with deck 2 and keep the cash to spend onboard.

Magic is getting 'older' now has had long service and even with a rehab in 2013 has vibration issues, it had in 2014 when we were on it and its going into drydock in a few months for Engines and plumbing issues.

Well I sailed on the Magic 2 weeks ago, deck 2, and we again, had no problems. And I'd personally stick with deck 2.

I would definitely go with Deck 2, but I would avoid cabins aft of the aft elevators and right below the nightclubs (2034 - 2056 and 2534 - 2556). Deck 5 is fine too, but I'd save the $300 and stay on Deck 2.

Deck 2 is actually our favorite deck. It is very convenient to the restaurants, shows, nightclubs, atrium and shops and it is just a quick elevator ride to the pool deck. The elevators can often be very busy when you try to get on from the middle decks, but from Deck 2 you shouldn't have any trouble getting an empty one. Also, when you come back from port it is much easier to just walk up a flight of stairs to your deck rather than wait with the crowds for the elevators.

Again, definitely avoid the aft cabins and their noise, but anywhere else on Deck 2 should be just fine. Our favorite location on Deck 2 is all the way forward. Staterooms 2002, 2004, 2502, 2504 are slightly bigger because of their location. There is no noise there except from the theater above and we are usually at dinner or the show when that would be an issue.

We LOVE deck 5! We didn't realize how much we loved it until we visited another deck that was rooms the whole way, it was busy, noisy, etc. which is fine, I mean it's a cruise, it's what you might expect... But in comparison, Deck 5 felt like a quiet hotel. We loved being steps away from the movie theatre and walking up to the top decks when we wanted to. Even hanging out in the middle area near the elevators you could see so much of the ship, it was lovely. Staying on Deck 5 again this year :)

Oh, I should also note however that sometimes you smell the fresh popcorn from your room... So this caused some cravings!! :)

Never had noise problem on deck 2. Would cruise there in a heartbeat again

Deck 2 is actually our favorite deck.
Ours, also. We've only been on deck two on both the Wonder & Magic. Totally would stay anywhere on that deck. We've had rooms from the front (underneath Wavebands) to the aft (underneath Parrot Cay). No complaints about noise from any of them. Yes, the aft room did have some thruster noise when docking, but we were usually up and about by then in the mornings.

We've just come back from the Magic and stayed Deck 2, just aft of the aft elevators. We didn't notice any noise when docking, however on the starboard side there was a bit of late night noise from Cariocas. Like trolleys being wheeled around or something.

On the port side (we switched rooms between a B2B) we didn't have noise issues, but we had sewerage issues - the bathroom and toilet both had sewerage overflow one day. They were very quick to fix and sanitise it - I think there were about 5 or 6 staterooms in our area that were effected. No rhyme or reason as to which ones though - eg a family in connecting rooms only had the problem in one of the rooms.

Having said that, we really like the convenience of Deck 2 and would stay there again.

Just curious as we board the Magic in a week *squeal* were the sewage issues you referenced also aft? We are forward and almost mid on deck 2 so curious :)

Thanks,
Heather

Loved deck 2 on the WBTA. Will be sailing again on deck 2 for Hawaii. We have one of the larger staterooms this time, a little more forward than last year. Can't wait.

We've stayed on all decks on the Magic (except Deck 1). If it's noise you are concerned about, I'd choose deck 2. Never had a noise issue on deck 2, but on deck 5 we had a lot of noise from Animator's Palate.
