Deck 1 Room - Should I try to upgrade?

I just received my room assignment 1078 on Deck 1 for a May 6, 2006 7-night cruise. I heard it is two small portholes, instead of the large one.

Anyone familiar with Deck 1 -- is this a good room? Are these rooms smaller than other Cat 9 rooms?

Should I upgrade to a Cat 8 -- or downgrade to a Cat 10/11 -- are the two portholes worth it? Will this room be by some noisy mechanical machine?

Any chance of me receiving an upgrade at port?

HELP!!

Did the east bound Repo. in cabin 1072 and had no problems. There were only two small portholes but that didn't matter to me. I was more concerned about having the split bath. Size wise they are the same as any other cat 9.
As for noise the only thing I heard was the slapping of water against the hull.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise! :earsboy:

All cat 9 rooms are the same size. I try to get a cabin on deck 2, but that's because I'm claustrophobic and the two smaller porthole windows would not suit me well.

That said, if you don't need the larger porthole or if you don't care one way or the other, the cat 9 rooms are wonderful, imo. The split bath is great, the lower decks are nice and quiet.

You may be able to upgrade at port and certainly the costs are cheaper than upgrading in advance, but if you'd only be upgrading to a cat 8, then I personally am not sure it's worth it. The cat 8's are the same size and layout as the cat 9s (all with larger porthole windows though), but they are located in higher decks. I personally like being on lower decks as they are much less busy. The only people who ever go down that low are the people who have rooms there. :)

Sometimes there are no upgrades available at port though, so as many other people have said on these boards, book what you are comfortable with. :)

Did you call Disney Cruise Line and try to get a porthole window on deck 2? I am sure if they are available, they can change your room number. We had one last cruise and it was great.

we were on the 10/15 sailing in rooms 1066 and 1068 - in the begining...felt a little like you prior to our cruise....but, loved the location, rooms and did not feel the 2 smaller portholes were a drawback over 1 big one.
we've been on decks; 1, 2, 5 and 7 (on deck 7 we had a verandah). If I could not have deck 5 (SPH), i'd choose deck 1 over 2. Deck 1 was very quiet plus the split bathroom is a great feature.

I was in cabin 1060 and loved it. It was the same layout and size as the cabin we had on the 7th deck on our last cruise. Like others have said the only difference is instead of one large port window you have two small port holes. When we got our room assignment we didn't want to be down there either. I did not like the idea of being on the bottom deck, but for us it was a free upgrade(we paid for an inside cat 11 in the hopes of an upgrade) so we were not complaining :cheer2: . It turns out we were VERY happy with our cabin. It's not actuly on the bottom deck, their are many crew decks below it. It looked just like the cabin on our last cruise (7th deck) besides no picture window. My nephew actually like the two port holes better then the big one.....they had these mattel doors that you can open or close to cover the windows, he said it felt more like a ship. I personaly like the bigger window better then the two small ones, but the trade off of having pice and quite was worth it. It is much less noisy down their and great for sleeping, sometimes you can hear the water lapping against the ship and it is so relaxing. Another positive to the first deck is that if you suffer from motion sickness you are better off on the lower decks, were you do not feel the motion as much. I was also just reading that the new kids activity Ocean Quest is on the second deck (it was not there on my cruise) so if you are traveling with children it may be a bonus having that only one deck away.
Whatever you decide I am sure you will have a great cruise (how can you not with Disney :earsboy: ).
