Decided these points will be my last DVC purchase

Just closed on my BWV add-on. I will have a total of 265 points. Isn't that enough? I will not purchase additional points, because I'm starting to get the itch to vacation elsewhere. I almost can't take the speed of WDW anymore. In the past seven months, I have gone down from WNY three times.

How did you decide enough was enough?

Is it better to use the points I have already purchased, vacation with those, then save the interest on money I would have spent for more points to use for additional days or vacations?

When I thought about how much money I had spent on the vacation club, I almost became ill. Just think of all the things I could have done with that money!

Does anyone else share some of these feelings with me? I read the resorts board often, and the discounts available at deluxe resorts throughout the year are sometimes very appealing.

I've decided I had "enough" points several times.....but then change my mind. Even now at 900 I'm waiting for BCVillas to go on sale so I can add some there. I still go elsewhere, but once a year for non-dvc is plenty for me. If I ever tire of dvc I guess I can rent or sell some of my points, but honestly I don't see that happening! There really isn't anyplace left that I really want to visit enough to give up my dvc time.

DVC only costs me $72 per month earned income. We have 164-OKW and 64-BWV or 228 points. I had the misfortune of becoming a disabled vet, the small VA check I get each month makes up the difference between the $72 and the rest. I used to squander that check till I put it to good use. DVC is an expensive timeshare and I could not have justified(afforded) it any other way.
265 points ought to be enough, we do well with 228 but 300 would give us extra to play with. At $75 and more, we will not be buying anymore DVC points.
As for other vacations, we own 2 other timeshares that we bought at resale prices at 1/5 the cost of DVC combined. We use these for going to other places.
I can tell you that of the many timeshare resorts we have been to(some were quite nice), DVC has the nicest everything. It truly is the Cadillac of timeshares so you invested your money well. If you are really itching to go other places, look for a used(resale) timeshare at a place you'd like to visit, then use it to trade out to other places when you want. You can get very nice RCI Gold Crown red season resorts for less then 5k, sometimes much less. I had a white RCI gold crown that I only paid $1800 for and now have a summer red beach week in a Fla gold crown resort that only cost $3500. I never used the white week and traded it away for Kitty Hawk, Cape Cod and Orlando summer weeks. Good trades for an off season white week. The red week trades even better. There is a website called timshare users group(tug) you can check out if you want to learn more. I'd add the link but I don't know how....spruce

A1A1, How many points did you just close on at the BW? Where were you able to get them? I'd like to add another 50 Boardwalk points somehow!

Wow... I'm not the only vet who does that! My disability check was a wash for our monthly dues (well, till we added that last 200 points). At least when I look wistfully at some of the rides I don't do because of my bad back, I've got the satisfaction of knowing my "back pay" is paying my dues :)

No, we won't be buying any more points either:( . Unless we win the lottery of course!! At $75 per pt. it's getting a little steep for us. We have 265 (210 OKW/65 HH) and that gets us at least 3 trips (unless we take a lot of people to a 2 bedroom or GV). Sometimes, if we are just in a studio (usually) we can go 4 times. Next trip planned for 8/26-31 OKW :earsgirl:

How did you get the add-on? I was told yesterday that there was nothing available at BWV. I was only looking for a small add-on (25-50 points).

Right now I'm starting the 4th year of an 8 yr college process. The worst part is that yrs 4 & 5 both sons will be attending. We just added 70 pts at VWL and that took some stretching. I think we're done for at least the next 5 years.

Hey gail reale I guess we will be seeing you in Disney we will be there at the same time.:smooth:

Thanks for the replies. Thought there was something wrong with me that I have no desire to add on any more points. I don't really want or need anymore, I don't think. I have no desire to purchase at BCV as so many of my fellow posters seem to.

Wow - somebody had 900 points. That must afford some lenghty vacations. I don't know -- I also figure I don't want to pay my monthly dues to bring my family and friends down. They can pay for themselves. If I was as generous as some others here, I might want to get more points.

As far as BWV points: they are definitely sold out. Just finished paying for them from earlier this year. The only way you could get an add-on now is to buy resale. I think in the next few years we will see more BWV resales, as there seem to be more OKW resales maybe because it has been around longer, and some OKW owners may now be wearing out on it.

As someone said - they tried to quit many times, but keep coming back for more. It's like an addiction almost. There are a lot worse things to be addicted to than a little sunshine.

Peter Johnson and Spruce: My husband is also a disabled vet. Have either of you used SOG? I hear it's nice there, and wondered too, if I should have used my money to stay there.

I've never even thought about it. I've taken so many trips, that there is no way I would have afforded or taken, had I not owned DVC....so, nope, I never think about the money I've spent!

I have 875 points....I cannot say that I will never buy another point!

If the studios do not have Balconies....there is a good chance I won't be buying any points there either...does anyone know for sure? Will Beach Club Studios have Balconies????

I can't help on that one... we only stayed onsite twice(Poly & PO) before we bought DVC, and that was back when SOG was still the Disney Inn.

Your desire to vacation elsewhere is probably a good indication that you really won't purchase more points. I think most of us could happily vacation exclusively at WDW for the rest of our lives. We have 300 points (and I am forever grateful that I made the plunge twice (150 each time) before the price got so high!) and I yearn for more. I have NEVER had buyers remorse about the money I have spent on DVC. If anything, I wish I could have afforded more earlier.

Re: BCV, even if they do have balconies, what would they overlook? The parking lot? :) I think the location is great because of Epcot, but otherwise..... WLV would be my choice, or more BWV of course!!

I am not sure of all the eligability rules to use SOG. Active and retired military of course. I don't know about civillian dept. of defence employees, or other government jobs. A disabled vet however must have a 100% rating, which I had until 1985, then after a re-evaluation my rating was lowered. I can not use SOG(but would like to see it sometime)....spruce
